Rick, the manager, was great! We had a really nice evening, from delicious cocktails to good food. We will come back to try out the back patio when it cools off, and can see this becoming a regular in our rotation!
Great time at Sonny's Hideaway. My second time here did not disappoint. Fantastic martini and tasty food, and we were lucky enough to hit happy hour. Recommend.
The stray cat jumping on the table every 2 minutes was not cute. That needs to stop.
Always enjoy Sonny's cocktails and little plates. And Sabrina our hostess had thoughtfully saved a both for us. Hugh
Great cocktails, scrumptious food and a nice atmosphere. Although the food was very good, the menu needs to be expanded a bit - not enough dining options to choose from. I would definitely come again!
We love Sonny’s for its local neighborhood vibe and excellent cocktails.
They were out of two main dinner items on the menu, so the only choices were beef or chicken. Plating was very underwhelming. It felt like cocktails and bar service is their specialty. Probably a nice place to meet friends for drinks and apps only.
This place is very hit or miss. The bartenders are great so sitting at the bar is enjoyable, but I don't recommend going just for the food.
We have visited twice and will be returning. Waitstaff is very courteous and attentive. Dishes were flawlessly prepared and promptly served. Cozy ambiance. Relatively short but successfully creative menu. Cocktail list has depth. We learned that some items on the menu rotate seasonally. Vegetarian choices were outstanding, even to this non-vegetarian. Just two deserts offered. Their take on Tres Leche was exquisitely off the hook.
This was a hidden gem. Four of us had dinner/drinks for my birthday. Reservations were made via Open Table and honored. We were seated in a booth in back, but it's a small place so great view of the bar and place. We opted for sharing ALL of the smaller plates. Each was fantastic, creative and by the end filled us up. For dessert we tried a creme brulee, but the sour cream/tart cream on top wasn't great. Parking: There was plenty of free parking off York Blvd in the neighborhood. Plenty to walk around and see.
Restaurant was a bit rustic
We had a terrific meal at Sonny's Hideaway last Saturday. We sat on the lovely patio. The drinks were great and each dish was delicious. The food is fresh and the preparations and combinations are excellent. It is not fancy food, but it is a great version of classic dishes. I highly recommend this place.
Appetizers and drinks were great. Then came dinner, not so great. 2 out of 4 us us dining got the steak for dinner. The steak was tough, not the quality of meat I would expect for that price or restaurant. Was very disappointed, mentioned it to the server who shrugged it off. I can't recommend this place and I don't think I will return.
We were seating when we arrived. The waiter immediately supplied us with water, took our cocktail orders, and we back in minutes helping us figure out which dishes to order. All of his recommendations were excellent! An engaged waiter, good food, exciting atmosphere. Who would want more?
Brunch was very relaxed and lovely. Wonderful service and good food.
Food was Great. They were super sweet to my kids home loved their burger. Will def. be back. Sit outside with Simon the cat. ;)
Went for a Friday night dinner and were not disappointed. Food was very good and so were the cocktails. The server was friendly and helpful.
We dined indoors, but outdoor seating looked like fun.
Do not be deterred by edgy look of the neighborhood businesses. It looks to be an upcoming area.
A great find on York Blvd. Low key appearance, wondeful service, vibe and food.
The hosts and bartender gave us a warm greeting. The hosts was also our waiter. He was very friendly and took our orders without having to write it down. Drinks were fantastic as well as the dinner!
Don't sleep on the Octopus Confit - it was delicious!
We had a wonderful time. The hostess was great, and our server was fantastic! It was a busy night. A lot of people don’t know how to roll with the punches, but he did. We also need to talk about those shrimp and grits. My goodness. Delicious!!!
Went for brunch and sat outside in the rear patio. Ordered the seasonal hash, coconut ricotta pancake, and home fries. The seasonal hash was by far the best thing. It was really tasty and well-cooked. The eggs on top had the perfect run to them. The home fries were tasty but could have been crispier, but not docking them there. The pancake was left on the griddle a little too long and the bottom was blackened. It's too bad because the rest of it was tasty and light. The scrambled eggs that came with the pancake were bland and had a hair inside. Aside from the food, there was a pesky stray cat that continued to want to climb on the tables. It was all over the bench seats and empty tables too. I like cats, but not where the food is served. Otherwise, there's potential here.
Sonny’s is a cozy, friendly spot for dinner and drinks.
The food is good and the menu is interesting if not expansive.
Great neighborhood spot with cool friendly service.
Hands down, the best food and cocktails
Great food and drinks!
Wonderful find, definitely a hideaway! The food was great and service was excellent. Will be back!
We arrived early, so the restaurant wasn’t busy and we were seated immediately. The service was friendly and quick. The food was tasty...everyone was satisfied. Although our vegan friend only had one main dish option, which was too spicy for him. The ambiance was pleasant; a clean comfortable classic/traditional decor. Although, the seat of the booth where we were seated was worn out. As the evening went on, the restaurant and bar filled up with neighborhood folks. It was never too loud or raucous. I would definitely return.
Went for NYE. We had just flown in for the Rose Bowl from the East coast, so our reservation was super early. It was nice to have the wait staff to ourselves. The food was out of this world! Loved watching the bespoke bartenders make fun drinks.
I love Sonny's and their new menu is extra wonderful. Satisfying the vegetarian and carnivores of our group. And always love the cocktails!
We had a great Christmas Eve dinner here. Cosy, great food, and stellar service. Thanks for making the evening so special!
Amazing food, great cocktails, nice ambiance. Enthusiastically recommend.
We always have a great time here, so it was fun to introduce Sonny's Hideaway to friends who didn't live in Highland Park. They loved the fun atmosphere and cocktails.
INCREDIBLY LOUD. Folks here seem to shout, which makes trying to have nice conversation at a small table between two people next to impossible. Food was innovative and decent. But there’s just a lot of hipster-adjacent folks here with decent spending ability but no consideration for other guests.
Love THIS PLACE!!! Go there all the time, food is great and I always meet amazing folks there
Sat out back and it was quiet and pleasant. Inside is noisy but not in an unpleasant way, but too much for a table of 6. Service was perfect and food was great—especially the octopus. And I don’t even like octopus. There was an after dinner drink (don’t remember what it was called) that was amazing.
Love this place so much! The waiter was so awesome. Brilliant food. Good vibes
This was my fourth visit to Sonny's and they have never disappointed on any front.
We sat outside on the lovely porch. Our serving team saw to us immediately. We had a delicious meal that was picked with the assistance of our server. Everything was perfect--great cocktails, inventive cusine and good timing for each course even though it was busy inside.
I love windowless vibe of it. A bit old school steak house. Simple and sharp decor and comfy booths. All food was great. We had dry fry chicken, octopus, and the burger. The fries are super delicious. Never take for granted a delicious fry. Finally, the service was friendly and fun and patient.
