Seit der Sommersaison 2013 führen Barbara und Samuel Senn das Restaurant Sonnmatten in der Winkelmatten. Wir haben durchgehen warme Küche von 12:00 bis 21:00. Im Sommer servieren wir à la carte. Im Sommer ist Mittwochs zu. Unsere Sommersaison endet am 30.Septermber. Wir freuen uns auf eueren Besuch.

Barbara Stelzer: „Wir freuen uns sehr, dass Einheimische sich gerne zu uns an die Tische setzen“, sagt sie. Das Restaurant ist zum Treffpunkt für Gäste aus dem Dorf und aus der ganzen Welt geworden – sei es an den Tischen im Freien mit Blick aufs Matterhorn, sei in der gemütlichen Gaststube.

Koch Samuel Senn ist in Zermatt kein Unbekannter. Er hat jahrelang im Hotel Mont Cervin Palace als Souschef gearbeitet. Seine Küche in der Sonnmatten ist „einfach, ehrlich und mit regionalem Touch“, sagt er, während er am Mittag mit geübter Übersicht am Freiluftgrill Würste und Steaks dreht.

Restaurant mit Toplage auf das Matterhorn. Qualität der Speisen entspricht nicht ganz den hohen Preisen. Spätzli angebraten und Steinpilzsosse ohne Pilze und paßt eigentlich nicht zu Wild. Portionen sogar für unseren kleinen Marcel nicht üppig.

Great restaurant, we truly enjoyed our meal. We had to do the Schnitzel and it was exactly as advertised, the best we have ever had. We also tried many of the other dishes since we had a party of 6 and everything was wonderful.

Il posto non è di facilissimo accesso, nel senso che c’è una bella stradina in salita che ti mette l’appetito. Ma il posto vale lo sforzo. Il cibo è davvero buono e curato, l’ambiente molto caloroso tradizionale ma anche moderno, e il servizio è stato straordinario. Il cameriere bretone che ci ha serviti era simpatico, molto attento e disponibile, conosceva bene il suo lavoro e ci ha fatto sentire a casa, clienti speciali anche se era la prima volta che ci andavano. Staff completely stressed. French guy smashed a glass on one of the party and didn’t apologise. Food served on lots of platters and bowls: doesn’t work on a crowded table. Had to get our own menus. Wir waren im ersten Service mit Zeitfenster von 1 3/4 Stunden. Ein Apéro liegt zeitlich nicht drinn. Die einzelnen Gänge wurden Schlag aus Schlag serviert. Das Personal war sehr bemüht Ruhe auszustrahlen. Das Essen war sehr gut und das Ambiente an und für sich schön. Was uns hingegen nicht gefiel, dass sich das Restaurant bereits nach 1 1/4 Stunden komplett zu leeren begann und damit die Aufräumarbeiten. Tische wurden verschoben und neu zusammen gestellt. Es wurde sehr ungemütlich. Wir waren mittlerweile alleine Saal und nach 1 1/2 Stunden draussen.
