WE love this restaurant but the menu has changed from eastern European to probably more popular fare. What was left, like the Chicken Kiev was not to par with what they used to serve. Summer menu is now in play. We may try again when they move back to a full menu
I had been a regular customer and had raved about the food, atmosphere and menu to very good friends. I have rarely been as disappointed and somewhat embarrassed by your "Summer Menu/" Almost all of my favorite items were gone and even the perogies were dry and tasteless. You don't carry the beer served in the mug nor any other interesting Eastern European brew. I had the feeling you were getting ready to go out of business and that saddened me.
My husband and I came here for the Fathers Day Brunch (first time at this restaurant), and WOW! There was a beautiful variety of food, all amazingly delicious-from eggs to seafood to prime rib and everything that goes with those items. The ambience was elegant and relaxing with a guitarist playing up front. His choice of music was perfect for the occasion. Our server was wonderful and very attentive. The manager was always close by assuring everything was great for the patrons. We enjoyed our experience and the food so much, we are going to make Sonatas brunch a monthly thing.
Thanks I have a great dinner time with my daughter
Really nice and fancy place for romantic dinner. I really enjoyed my steak. One of the best steaks I have ever had. The cocktails was amazing. Staff really nice.
My father wanted to have dinner at a 5 star restaurant for his birthday...what better place to go than Sonata’s?
The ambience is to die for. Soft lighting, beautiful decorations and impeccable table settings.
Food is hands down the best European food that I have EVER had in the entire Valley. The octopus is wonderfully cooked and the lamb shank practically melts in your mouth.
Service is friendly without being overbearing, knowledgeable and prompt. My family and I will continue to be loyal patrons of this restaurant! If you’re looking for a high class culinary experience, look no further than Sonata’s.
We noticed the restaurant changed the menu, and we tried the new 3 course steak dinner they have. Really good deal in my opinion. Salad, steak and dessert for $30!!!
We had an awesome time at Sonatas restaurant! Drinks were amazing, food delicious and music was good. Our server was really nice. He recommended us kepta duona, it was amazing.
Food was great. Take care not to sit under the 8 AC vents inefficiently placed in one spot in the restaurant. While every other party was comfortable, we froze;) Good and Service were top notch
3 couple outing. Service VERY friendly and prompt with ONE exception. Several of us ordered the 3 course dinner... they ran out of the planned desert so we waited extraordinarily long, then went looking for our waiter. In the end they brought us all an alternative. Would have preferred them offering one without the wait. We will go back. Great ambiance and food.
I ordered the New York steak and it was extremely chewy with a ton of fat that I had to cut off. The steak knife was also really dull. I rarely ever make complaints with meals however for the price I paid to eat here, I did not think it was a good value.
everything was fine and atmosfer so friendly good service
Excellent food, lovely presentation, unique combinations. We had been waiting to go to Sonata & have had scheduling conflicts with our friends.we have finally been able to go & we were not disappointed. A great evening!
Since we discovered Sonata’s, it is our go to spot for every special occasion on our calendar...plus Will’s wine dinners. David’s the best...so attentive...cares so much. Love the creative atmosphere, decorating, creative & delicious food, and wonderful wine & drinks. My wife eats items (Seafood & shellfish) here that she won’t anywhere else. On Mother’s Day, the seared tuna and shrimp with the fabulous cocktail (strong horseradish favor) made her whole day! Thank you!
I reserved a table for my birthday and I had high hopes for this restaurant. The interior design is amazing but everything else is pretty disappointing. We reserved the table for 8:45pm. We arrived on time and as soon as we were seated, the server told us the kitchen is closing although they close at 10pm. My husband tried to order duck and he has told that they were out of duck, then he tried rib-eye steak and he was told AGAIN that they were out of ribeye. We were denied dessert because it was too late and they had nothing to serve. I’m not sure what happened that night, if the server wanted to send us home ASAP or the kitchen was just not properly stocked. If you go there, just have drinks otherwise some waiter will tell you that they’re out this or that.
Something wrong here. Either, all my life I have been served dishes that were not authentically prepared or this restaurant has a strange idea of how they should be prepared. 3 of 6 dishes we had, bared little resemblance to what we expected.
Oysters Rockefeller had no evidence of Pernod, or any sauce or cheese and appeared to have been poached rather that baked or broiled. The oysters tasted find but very plain.
The Chicken Kiev was a real mystery. My wife exclaimed "where's the chicken". I tasted and wondered too. Unless it was the ground up stuff inside what appeared to be a mold of bread crumbs. I guess there had to be something to mold the breads crumbs to but if it was chicken it was too thin to recognize. If you like butter oozing from the breast when you cut into your Kiev, you better bring your own. Whatever this was, it was relatively tasty.
A desert described online as Peanut Butter Chocolate Mouse, thankfully wasn't, though it was not mousse either. What came was a cake with several rose bud dots of mousse identified as carmelized white chocolate. I guess the flavor was close to white chocalate - hardly enough to be sure. There was a smear of banana brule but it was so thin it hardly qualified as a smear. Dish was attractively plated and was actually ok unless yu wanted Mousse or even Mouse.
My lamb kabob was prepared medium as requested, but, while tender, was surprisingly quite dry and flavorless. The tzatziki sauce saved the dish. My wife's Caprese salad was fine and good value.
As a side note, we chose Sonata's partially based on two appetizers on the online menu - Bone Marrow and Seared Fois Gras. The Bone Marrow was not on the actual restaurant menu and they were out of Fois Gras.
I had a dinner reservation for 8:30 on a Tuesday night. I am traveling for work so I didn’t know what to expect when I chose this restaurant. I was super excited to try the salmon with rice. When I arrived, the host was not available and didn’t notice me for several minutes (was chatting with another employee). I was finally seated and sat for another 10 minutes before I was greeted from my server or offered any water. I already knew what I wanted to order but the server went missing. There was only about 5 other people dining that night so this type of treatment was unacceptable. I politely left my table and drove down the street to Paul Martin’s Restaurant. I explained my experience to them and they took excellent care of me. They said Sonata’s loss was their gain. It’s unfortunate - I was eager to try them out.
Excellent food and Ben my waiter was terrific, and attentive. I will come back and recommend it to others!
Very good dishes. Had the short ribs, fish and the crime brûlée. All tasty. Full, both inside and outside.
Beautiful restaurant, wonderful service and innovative food preparations.
Very pleasant, good location, easy parking, efficient staff, food was delicious! Would go back in a minute!
Nice atmosphere, enjoyed the live music, but food was not very good. Mushroom soup tasted like thick mushroom gravy.
Server tried to be 'oh so chic'--but had TERRIBLE mouth odor.
Definitely would not return.
Our first time here, but it is now one of our favorites! The food is wonderful and perfectly seasoned. The borscht, the smoked salmon and potato pancake, and the stuffed cabbage were
the best we’ve had at a restaurant. They were delicious and lighter than any we’ve had.
The friendly service was equal to the food — the young man who seated us was very gracious and Benedict, our waiter, was extremely helpful and accommodating. Another plus was the patio which was quiet enough for conversation. For us, the “vibrant “ interior would be too noisy, but there are enough nice days to enjoy this restaurant al fresco.
Great food and atmosphere! I had the Short Ribs and were so good everyone at the table took a bite. Gorgeous night for patio dining.
Kaim provided wonderful service with recommendations for entrees and wine. My husband ordered the octopus appetizer as his entree and enjoyed every bite. Actually, couldn't stop talking about it! The manager brought us a complimentary dessert of warm beignets, which were very delicious!
The food was very good. It is a really pretty restaurant especially outside.
First time at Sonata's, we saw it in a list of top restaurants in Scottsdale. We certainly agree. Live musician playing classical guitar--very pleasant, and not intrusive. Staff was very attentive. Our waiter, Brandon, was a perfect mix of taking good care of us without being overbearing. There was an interesting cocktail list. Got me away from my usual martini and into an old fashioned that had a few little twists that made it perfect. The menu was very interesting with a good selection of starters, as well as some entrees that you don't see in other places. All in all, a great experience. We feel like we've discovered a gem!
Great food, bad service, terrible wine selection
Sonata's was a very delightful restaurant. The menu was very nice and everything excellently prepared. The staff were all friendly. On the weekend they have an acoustical guitarist and the music was very enjoyable. We had gone a couple of days earlier and we enjoyed it so much that we had to go back while we were still visiting Scottsdale. My mother has a walker and there were a number of places to be seated that were easy for her to get to and to place her walker out of the way. You can dress up or dress a bit down. They welcome everyone. The foie gras and Duck were delicious. The lamb shank was also very good.
Thought we would try this while in Scottsdale since it had good reviews and we wanted to try a new restaurant. Very nice decor and ambiance. They had a guitarist playing Spanish guitar which was a little on the loud side and the restaurant wasn't very busy on a Friday night. I had the beet salad which said it had fried goat cheese and beet marshmallows - it had both, 2 of each and they were small and very good but needed more to balance the salad. Otherwise the salad was all beets. I had the Seafood pasta stew/soup which was good. There were prawn or langastino 'creatures' in the soup but had no meat so I asked...the waitress said they are added for flavor not for additional seafood - very odd. My husband had the Bone Marrow appetizer and he was disappointed because it lacked actual bone marrow, mostly short rib meat. He also had the lamb shank and liked it.
Sonata's patio is a gem. We started our evening by having a cocktail on the patio. Then had our dinner inside and the ambience is wonderful. Great menu with artful presentation. The must have appetizer is the Kepta Duona! So delicious! The octopus appetizer was very tender. We had the lamb shank, chicken kiev and cabbage rolls and all were very tasty and perfect. We ended our meal with the honey cake for dessert -perfect, not too sweet. The service was very professional. Great restaurant with reasonable prices.
Sonata's is an excellent restaurant! The food is Eastern European with a healthy twist. The quality of the food, presentation and service are all outstanding! I have been there many times and the quality is consistently excellent. Highly recommend.
Fabulous menu. Everything I've tried in my last four visits was delicious. Must have favorites are Bone Marrow, Pork Belly and Octopus. Yum.
Warm greeting by a team. Great service & delicious food carefully prepared & beautifully presented.
What a fantastic find. Artful preparations, super service & amazing food. Live music.. can’t wait to return
We had our second dinner at Sonata's, and it was magnificent! I had the grilled pork chop, while my wife had the scallops. Both were delicious. The GM checked in with us at our table to see that we were enjoying our meals. Our server, Brandon, took good care of us. Sonata's has become our new favorite restaurant in Scottsdale.
Great food! Bartenders can whip up awesome drinks
Usually very good. Buffet is not their forte. Meats we're very good as usual, but buffet pans we're not kept hot until prompted. We were given a pass on the bill when we spoke up. Please don't allow this to influence your choice as the buffet was an Easter treat and not the standard.
Went for their Easter Brunch. They were not busy and our server was very disappointing. To have Brunch and a bottomless mimosa, the first one was warm, and I watched our waitress wait in two tables and she rarely came by I watched her stand at the bar for ages. Finally had to wave down the manager. I would like to go back and try their regular menu but the Easter Brunch would not be something I would recommend for the price. I would go the one of the higher end hotels next time.
