My group and I came in from out of town and was looking forward to this dining experience, however even with a reservation in place months in advance we had to wait an hour for our table only to be met with subpar service and cuisine. My thought process is that with a small, limited menu the items presented should be done well, but that was not the case. The drinks were great but the food items were lackluster at best - the breading on the chicken slider was soggy as if it had been sitting, the gem salad had a weird color, the Mac n cheese with lobster, the oysters and roast chicken were just okay. Overall, if I am back in LA this would not be a staple that I would return to. There needs to be changes with both front of the house and back of the house management.

Filets were excellent. Service was phenomenal. Drinks were good as well. Band was terrific. Super happy to have a great spot in our neighborhood that is walking distance from home!

Food was pricey & small portions but overall pretty good. Live band was a plus but some of the seats weren’t facing the band so the experience was a little awkward. The poor service was our biggest issue. The waiter AJ S seemed uninterested & made us feel rushed. You have to order all your food at once, appetizers, salads, entrees etc., which was unusually.

The experience was wonderful at the beginning , everything was really flowing and the came to a halt! The main entry took a long time to come. We were having a great time time until this person looking like DARTH VADER told us our time was UP ! We had our purses on our shoulder and was preparing to leave! It was the way it was done! She totally BLIND SIDED us! My husband and the other couple was not happy about the 600 dollar bill but said we wanted to support our new neighborhood restaurant! We have lived in View Park for over 40 years! And was excited about Essa’s restaurant!( she’s one of my favorite actresses!) DARTH Vader could have done it another way! Like how was your meal?, did you enjoy your experience? She messed up the whole experience the last 10 minutes! Now none of our party wants to return! Lots of our family and friends was waiting to get our response. I loved the food! I hope this helps DARTH in the future!

So there are many places to eat in Los Angeles. But the newest is “Somerville,” which Issa Rae and partners opened in the View Park area of Los Angeles. It’s an experience indeed! When you walk in, you feel like you’ve stepped back in time to a jazz club during the Harlem Renaissance. Music, craft drinks, amazing food, attentive staff - it goes on and on. I can’t say enough about the taste and quality of the craft drinks, food, coffee, and dessert. Each sip and bite is tantalizing. Pricey but worth it - you only live once. It’s hard to get a reservation - you have to book on Open Table 60 days out or do a late seating. They also have valet parking. I can’t wait to go back.

We had an amazing time visiting Somerville. The food was great, the atmosphere was lovely, and the overall service was exceptional. Justin, the manager, was so helpful, so accommodating, and had such a pleasant personality. He truly made our experience memorable. We look forward to returning and bringing more friends. Thank you.
