Somerset Grill at the Vespera on Ocean
Lovely place and very quiet because of the corona virus shut down for bars. We loved every bite.
Wendy was a great and accommodating server. We appreciated her friendliness and help.
My first visit to the Grill was nice, but the second time was NOT the charm. Four of us lunched there again with three enjoying the lobster roll, and I the grilled romaine which was much better than my first time at Somerset Grill. The chef really should skip the chile powder - or whatever it was - on the crostini, however. Also, be prepared for a rather skimpy and expensive pour if you like wine with your meal.
Food and wine aside, some of the wait-staff were just gossiping among themselves and not paying attention to the patrons. Granted, there were probably just a dozen diners, but I had to get up for the ground pepper, as there was neither salt nor pepper on the table.
Vespara offers two free hours of valet parking while dining at the Grill, but no valet was in sight when we arrived so we self-parked in the underground garage. Finished with lunch we tried to take the elevator back down to the garage, but they have that blocked. I understand that it is probably that way due to safety. There WERE valets at the door by then, with a very grumpy "engineer" almost shouting at us that we couldn't go into the garage. What? I tipped the young guy who fetched our car, and told him that it wasn't his fault, but it was an unpleasant ending to our lunch at the Somerset Grill. The four of us will not be in any hurry to go back!
We will definitely come back whenever we’re back in town. Food was great and our server was very nice .
I saw their pic on line of the Grilled Lemon on a Shrimp Cocktail so that is what I went there for- they served 4 Medium to Large size shrimp- Not Jumbo at all- which could have been firmer and chilled more. Their Cheeseburger was delicious tasting- i ordered $4 bacon and it was about .$40 worth of crumbled bits atop- so that was not the best value- our server was attentive and friendly- the place is ocean view so that is great- and it is new so that its still clean.
Beautiful.property and excellent food!! Service was A+. We will definitely go back.
It was a good experience, overall, but don’t go on a Sunday expecting catch of the day or salmon. No fish deliveries on Sunday. Also they ran out of chocolate dessert. Maybe they are still working out the kinks.
terrible service. took 2 hours to get my order of french fries.
Valentines dinner. Shared meal no options $85 a person. Food was good but a little disappointed with the cost for what was served. Should have been $85 a couple.
Great view of the ocean sitting outside, beautiful surroundings. If I needed to stay at a hotel, I would definitely choose the Vespera Hotel. Food was delicious and server was very attentive.
Really enjoyed our Valentines lunch on the outdoor patio section of the restaurant. The service from Heidi was excellent. The food was very good. I had a chef's salad and my wife had the chowder and goulash. The goulash was a very large portion for a side, in fact it probably is intended as a side to share with all. The salad was great, very large. It was a nice way to spend Valentines.
Beautiful settings and ambiance. Food was mediocre, few choices for lunch.
It took over an hour to get wine glasses for serving it. After two hours waiting at table, we spoke to manager and our food still was not ready. We got up and left.
Fining room became very noisy. It needs sound baffles.
First visit. We will definitely be back. Had short ribs and whole, fresh branzino. Both very tasty.
Bistro atmosphere. Interesting menu. A bit pricey for Pismo Beach.
Everything was really good. Our server was really good and next time we will be there for happy hour
Nothing special. Food took an hour to receive and was fine - non offensive, not much taste. Beautifully presented.
Wonderful, caring service, and delicious, delectable food! The heaters helped with being able to enjoy the meal outside, and the view of the fire pits and lights at night made it a special place to have dinner. Not to mention the pet friendly upscale atmosphere!
Not my favorite place for good food I had a salad it was just ok
We loved our meals, service was stellar and of course the pretty covered patio with an ocean and sunset view - perfect evening with friends. As an Airbnb host, I feel I can recommend this restaurant to my guests without hesitation.
Highly recommend to friends - loved the ambiance!
Wonderful addition to the Central Coast! The valet parking compliments the entire experience.
Food and setting were great. Food and beverage delivery a bit slow, but friendly. Way too loud/noisy. Even our server complained about it. Hard time talking across the table even. Hopefully something can be done to damper noise at least a little because otherwise it was a good experience.
I was impressed with everything about our experience at the Somerset Grill, from the valet parking through the entire meal.
The food, the service, the ambience, everything was amazing!!! I definitely will be back and recommend this place to my friends!!!
Sat in bar and had burgers. Burger was mediocre at best. You would think they could have done a lot better for a place that focuses on meat entrees. Given the price of $18, it was very poor value.
The food was delicious. We sat on the patio and watched the sunset. Heaters and fans made it very comfortable. Will definitely add to our favorites on the Central Coast.
Pleasantly surprised that a hotel restaurant at a beach resort was actually that good. The fish was delish and the selection of local wines was excellent and well-priced, though they were out of our first choice. I have only two complaints: the starters were too large (even the "side salad" was enough for at least two people and the house-smoked salmon for two or three) and, perhaps as a result, our mains arrived well before we were done with our starters. But our server was extremely gracious and helpful and did what she could to rectify the error. We were fortunate to get a seat in the quieter back room, though the main dining room and even the area near the bar were not terribly loud. There was a self-playing piano by the bar that was also not too loud. We did not try the outside tables on the heated patio.
This was our first time at this recently opened restaurant. It was New Year's Eve, and a bit disorganized as to how long the bar would stay open... but the food was absolutely fantastic and the restaurant is modern and fun, fairly unique compared to other restaurants in our area. It was quite pricey with a limited menu, but I believe that is because it was New Year's Eve.
Since Somerset Grill, housed at Vespera Hotel, has only been open a very short while I will say I cut them a little slack. It was New Year's Eve and the bartender seemed overwhelmed. The bar was not particularly packed but he was, none the less, stressed. We were seated promptly after I observed the host had been replaced with a new host and our reservation time was now past. There were several empty tables. Our waiter was lovely. She made all the right moves to make us feel welcome. The Amuse Bouche was an uninspired hard-cooked egg with a bit of balsamic vinaigrette and bit of something else. The salmon appetizer with caviar was very satisfying as was the main of Filet and Lobster. We drank an interesting slightly herbal sparkling wine made with blueberry that was great with our meal and as well as after. We will recommend the Grill and return soon since we live only 30 minutes north of Pismo.
There were the usual Issues that you experience most everywhere on New Years Eve, but I highly recommend the restaurant.
Left a detailed review in Yelp. New Year’s Eve dinner that missed on every level.
This restaurant needs a lot of work. The food was great but, there are a lot of kinks to work out. I hope they can get a manager that knows what’s going on in the food and wine industry. Our server was great however, he hasn’t been educated completely on the wine list. The bar needs some help too! It took forever to get our cocktails and when offering only one glass of a varietal of wine, on the list, if you run out-offer another option. “We don’t have any other By the glass” , isn’t acceptable. Last but not least, fix the damn patio doors. One of the gentlemen at our table became the door person for the staff, who kept getting locked out while serving the patio, our entire dinner. I’m not complaining just hope this review gets to the correct person. We do not want to see this spot fail.
What a delightful surprise. Somerset Grill was excellent!! The service was outstanding, the atmosphere was really lovely. I don't recall if it was noisy or not, but not so that we noticed!! We sat outside with a wonderful heater and it was very comfortable, even for a cold December night. The food was excellent - a little bit pricey but worth it! We will definitely come back here again and highly recommend this lovely place!!
We were there for our Christmas Dinner and it was great.
Even though dinner was served family style it was excellent and a most enjoyable experience. Variety of pallet tempting dishes portioned very well and excellent service
Third time visiting this beautiful Venue. There Chef James King is preparing some amazing dishes. I have tried the artichoke lobster roll homemade potato chips short rib side salad soup and christmas dinner. Every item was executed properly and served expertly. I highly recommend that everyone takes a moment to indulge your tastebuds @ this Gorgeous venue! 5 stars 4 sure*.
Great food. Particularly good service from our server Scarlett. We were there to relax at the end of a busy year, and the open concept dining area, along with Scarlett”s relaxed but knowledgeable service made it a great night. Chowder with lots of seafood, short ribs done in very tasty way, and a lobster roll to boot. Yeah!
Drinks were amazing as well as dinner.
Enjoyed our time in the restaurant. Celebrating my boyfriend's birthday. We shared the whole Branzino and was outstanding! He also had Oysters and I had the Grilled Artichoke - Superb! Restaurant surprised him with ice cream with sprinkles and a candle - nice touch! Matthew the Food & Beverage Manager came to check on our meal and our Server, Joseph was very attentive and accommodating. Fantastic experience!
We really enjoyed our dinner the other night. All of the staff was friendly and helpful and the ambiance was wonderful. We decided to do New Year’s Eve there.
