The renovation of the old cedar hotel is very well done. Good lunch time menu and wine. Vibrant and upscale for sure!
Three of us shared 4 appetizers: spicy crab on crispy rice, heirloom tomatoes, avocado toast and salmon crudo. Each one was delicious. We sat outside on the patio. Service was great.
We sat outside and enjoyed a lovely evening. Food was just ok. The sea bass was excellent but the pasta was tasteless and barely lukewarm.
It's a gorgeous restaurant (inside and outside) but the food quality needs to improve to justify the rather large check.
I hadn’t been to Somerset in a while and was so glad I went back! All of our dishes were delicious though the katafi-crusted sea bass was the star. Our server was friendly and helpful and unpretentious. The patio was also lovely. Really a great experience.
Other than waiting for an initial 20 min to order a glass of wine, the service was great. And all the dishes we shared were wonderful.
The service and food was outstanding! We came here for an anniversary and staff made it extra special. The lighting and decor design is wonderful as well. Highly recommend! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Very lovely out door patio seating. The bar and restaurant are beautiful!
Always a special experience at Somerset
Great patio overlooking the Viagra Triangle for people watching
Weather was ideal
Creative is a understatement for the drink and food menu
This is a top location for veg forward dining
The staff is all about you having a fine time
Solid drinks program
The baby gem endive and heirloom tomatoes salads were perfect starters
Everyone loved the chickpea pansies, spring veggies and roasted corn
The crispy sea bass was a one of a kind presentation
Save room for the chocolate and pretzels and peach ice cream desserts
Beautiful restaurant, friendly staff, and great food!
All staff members were very accommodating and our server (wish I could remember her name) was outstanding!
Fabulous Cheese Cake Creme Brulee Dessert!
Somerset, which is on the coloring level of the Viceroy Chicago, is a gem. We had breakfast there and the weather was perfect for eating outside (even if the construction noise from the adjacent building wasn’t).
The breakfast menu seemed appropriately limited and high quality, which matches the marketing of the hotel. I had a basic American (Gold Coast) breakfast and everything was prepared with excellence. My wife had a yogurt parfait which I also contemplated, and it looked delicious as well. I had coffee (their drip), which was rich but smooth. The Earl Grey my wife had was equally smooth and balanced (Richi).
Outside seating is in a cordoned-off street side courtyard which is quaint. True to Chicago form, the hotel’s exterior facade was expertly restored from the original iteration of the hotel (The Cedar - 1924). It was a lovely experience all around, except for the service, which at times was a little absent. When food was brought out, it seemed basic accoutrements were not presented or even asked about - salt, pepper, jam for toast, ketchup. That was the only knock on the outing. Otherwise the servers were polite and professional.
Will definitely return.
Fantastic as always! Very special place, and we love celebrating at Somerset. Thank you for making our evening so special!
Chef is amazing! staff and restaurant manager is top notch. Our favorite place in the Viagra triangle
Service and food were outstanding. Pork chop was tender and flavorful. Sea bass was great too.
Terrible, terrible service. Our waiter told us that we had a 90 minute limit- but not to worry, our food would be out quickly. He took 10 minutes to take our drink order and then didn’t check on us again for another 10 mins to get our food order. It took ONE HOUR for our food to come out- and we just ordered burgers on a night that was not busy at all. That was not “quick” by any stretch. While my friend was telling a story & laughing, the manager came over to ask her if she was mad about something - alluding to the volume of her voice in a very judgmental tone. We were NOT loud and there was a party behind us that had actually clapped previously so this scolding by the manager was both unwelcome & highly inappropriate. Will not be going back in person.
Was absolutely amazing and Jay and the staff were all great!
I love what chef Stephen is doing but I do miss the moist & delicious 1/2 chicken & the glazed Brussel Sprout side that was on the original Somerset menu as the season cools down. Hopefully, there can be more choices on the lunch menu as ‘life’ resumes.
Food not as good as I recall. Quite a disappointment as I brought people from out of town. I’ve enjoyed meals there before so maybe an off night
Mediterranean Sea bass was delicious. Everything else was meh. Flavorings heavy-handed.
It was very good but their policy of having to order everything at once was a problem. We wanted appetizers with our wine and then wanted to order the rest of dinner.
Great outdoor and indoor environment for any occasion.
The food was excellent. We had the tuna tartare and the crab apps and both were delicious. For mains, we had the seabass and the burger, both of which also were outstanding. And the cookie plate for dessert was very good. The service was attentive, but not intrusive. Most of the diners were eating outside, which meant that the ambience inside was quieter than it usually is. We definitely will go back.
The risotto was not risotto- it was a soupy rice with wilted arugula . Service and ambiance was great- the meal needs to meet the same standard.
Menu is limited, and overpriced. Adding Truffles to a burger and charging $18 was extravagant. It just wasn’t that great a burger, frankly.
After having 2 friends recommend Somerset we were excited to try it and join them for dinner there. We were seated on the outdoor patio, which is lovely. Both friends had been there before and raved about the crispy crab appetizer. When it came out they both said "What is this? They completely changed it." It was not good. We had a few appetizers. The Lobster Spring Roll and Tuna Tartar were tasty. The burger was underwhelming. The fries were cold and greasy. Clearly the frying oil needed to be changed. Loved the location but there are better options, especially for the price.
Spectacular. First of all, the restaurant is gorgeous and the outdoor patio is wonderful and inviting. We sat outside and enjoyed drinks and dinner. We started with the spring vegetables, which I highly recommend, and then each had a salad. My selection was the Bibb Lettuce salad, which I have to say may have been one of the best salads I've ever had. We split the asparagus risotto for dinner. Divine. The servers were attentive and helpful and the entire experience went smoothly. A lovely dinner. Oh, and the cookie plate for dessert - I'll go back just for that!
Great outdoor patio. Very attentive and friendly staff. An enjoyable afternoon.
Been here 4-5 times now and it'll probably be the last. The food is okay, the serving sizes always leave me wanting a little bit more. I had a porkchop and two carrots for $60 and it's just not worth the money in my opinion. Feel like this place is lacking an identity or something. I'm a big fan of all the Boka restaurants but this one isn't one I'll make an effort to revisit.
Our experience was simply immaculate from beginning to end. Our server Ashley and her manager Jay went above and beyond to curate an incredible dining experience for us. Not only will we be back, but we will be telling everyone about our incredible evening at Somerset. Thank you Ashley, Jay and the whole Somerset team for wildly exceeding our expectations!
Table wasn’t ready. Ordered something the server said was on the menu by mistake and even though it was on the lunch menu and they had all the ingredients, they wouldn’t make it. What I ordered instead was barely edible.
It was great! They made my birthday very special!
The ambiance is awesome! The wine list is decent. The food leaves a lot to be desired. My pork came out extremely dry - almost beef jerky like. The waiter was absent minded and paid little to now attention to us. With all of the great Chicago restaurants, go somewhere else.
The service wasn’t the best and no Bloody Mary mix…. For brunch.
Took forever to get a drink.
Poor food quality.
Would not come back.
Went for a birthday - cool ambience and good food. They worked to make the birthday special
Excellent food and service
Birds flying around, mediocre overpriced food, very slow service, servers were not knowledgeable about their own menu
Came here for a birthday brunch with my parents. The restaurant brought out three glasses of Prosecco, on the house, for my birthday. We had wonderful service and the food was delicious. Outside dining is lovely.
Went for my boyfriends birthday and we had a great time! The tuna tartare was amazing and staff were so nice. Definitely coming back!
