We went with another couple, so there were four of us in total. The food was delicious. However, we were told this was a sharing menu, and the portions were too small. We ordered the ravioli, which was delicious. There were 5 pieces for $30. So, we each had a bite and then waited to see who would split the last one. That was just one example. We all left hungry and paid $360 for dinner for 4 that did not involve a large number of drinks (two each). We understand the expense of food and the time and energy it takes to make a great meal, but we also feel that as customers paying high prices, we deserve more reasonable portions.
Amazing dinner, I wish I could give it more than 5 stars! Food was absolutely delicious and service was outstanding. Numerous gluten options available. Can’t wait to go back !
All was just perfect!
Great food, great service
The food was delicious however for the price the portions were extremely undersized. I loved the ambience and the service was great but again, for the value, I would expect more for an average of approximately $35 per meal. We will likely try other locations before returning.
The food and service were exceptional. It was truly a magical experience! We had tuna crude, mussels, beet salad, Vongole pasta and rabbit. All excellent. The cream ice-cream was great.
Great meal! Fresh ingredients very well prepared. Excellent service. Thank you!
We enjoyed our evening. Everything was just right and we never felt rushed . The drinks, food , service were spot on. Nice job Solo ! it was nice to eat out after more than a year of waiting .
Everything was excellent. There's a great vibe when you walk in to Solo Italiano. The bar, the prep station, the eating area. Everything is well appointed and easy on the eyes. We sat at one of the tables in the rear with a great view and were greeted by Debbie. She was our waitress, but also our tour guide on this wonderful food extravaganza. We started with a cocktail and a great Montefalco wine. We ordered mussels for an appetizer and they were abundant and delicious and floating in a great sauce the required us to ask for more bread. Unique salads followed then spectacular pastas. The dessert selections were very tempting, but we were too full to order one. We have to return just so we can try them. When we do come back we'll be sure to ask for Debbie.
We had a wonderful Mother’s Day Meal!!! The menu had something for everyone. Fish for my Mother in law, Duck, vegetarian options and so much we wanted to try we will have to go back!
Excellent service. Tuna tartare was good and the beet salad was great. The clams and linguine were good as well as the handkerchief pasta with basil sauce. Going back for supper tonight.
Due to the pandemic we have not been out to eat in a restaurant in what seems like a really long time. Breaking that trend at Solo was the best. Everyone enjoyed their food and drinks. Wait staff were awesome.
Our server had a sixth sense as to when we needed something or needed our space, and was very charming.
Our server, Kimberly was incredibly knowledgeable about the menu...her recommendations for someone in our party who had a gluten sensitivity was exceptional. Although there was no chardonnay offering on the menu for 2 of our guests, she recommended a comparable white wine which was exceptional and paired beautifully with the fish. Will definitely go back (and request Kim as our server :-)
Always a wonderful experience! Very delicious and thoughtfully prepared, and very authentic Italian food. Gracious and knowledgeable staff.
Great food. Unfamiliar but excellent Italian wines at good price
The mandilli al pesto was delicious!!
Best Restaurant in Portland, ME. They have done an Awesome job in the midst of this horrible pandemic. Many thanks to the Amazing owner and chef Paulo and his Incredible staff. Make your reservations in advance! You don’t want to miss this Magical experience!!!!
The best possible dining experience! My compliments to Paolo the chef/owner. I will recommend to my network and will certainly return to when visiting Portland. Grazie Paolo!
This was possibly one of the best meals I've ever had! Very creative menu and amazingly delicious food. Can't wait to return.
everything was excellent but for the second time the mussels had no taste, everything else was wonderful
On my way to visit Arcadia National park trip, stop by for dinner dining both on heading and returning trip. Excellent food especially white wine mussels. Services were also friendly and helpful.
Everything was perfect! The ambiance, music, wine, food and service!
We are relatively “demanding” eaters who rarely award 5 stars across the board to restaurants. Yet this dining experience was truly so deserving. Each dish was wondrously creative and remarkably delicious. We will be returning soon.
Absolutely delicious. Staff was very accommodating. I lived in Northern Italy for a few years so I was anxious to try the pesto.
Some of the best food my wife and I have ever eaten! We'll go back every time we visit!
Incredible Italian food! Felt like a hidden gem- as though the space was an old art gallery with Italian charm. Loved it.
our server was great! As a gluten free and dairy free guest I was hoping to see some options for myself but there weren't many. I got the rabbit which was good but was hoping for some pasta dishes to be able to be accommodated for dairy free. The GF pasta option was great to know but our server told us it was available once we inquired - I would recommend putting this on the menu to keep up the times! Other than that we had a great experience- everything tasted great and our server was extremely knowledgable, friendly, and helpful with the menu. Thank you!
Best Italian Restaurant in Portland By Far!!! We'll be back soon.
The house made pasta with pesto was out of this world! The homemade focaccia; to die for, and the thin sliced prosciutto melted in your mouth!
The service was attentive without being overbearing. The server was well informed about the wine list and menu.
I watched the barrister who made the appetizers and desserts; she was a master of her craft and a diligent worker.
A high price point, but you get what you pay for, and worth every penny!
Fresh ingredients, simply prepared. Friendly and knowledgeable staff.
Our experience started by asking the waitress to recommend a dry white wine . She readily suggested one so we ordered a bottle . It was not dry, it was very sweet although not terrible . She did ask if I wanted to try first however and I passed so I was too trusting I guess . Then we ordered mussels and and tomato and mozzarella salad to share as apps. Mussels came right out . They were good and fresh but the broth had no flavor, it was like hot water . Broth is usually my favorite part of mussels . We finished mussels never got salad . Waitress never checked on us until after our mussels were cleared . We said we would skip salad at this point and order dinner . I got linguine and clams which was good but my boyfriend had to send his pasta with shrimp back , the pasta was hard and gummy - very undercooked . Never mind it had one shrimp .He had never done that at a restaurant before . At that point I finished my food and we left .Very unpleasant meal .
Love this place. My favorite restaurant in Portland. Paolo is a genius! The homemade pastas are outstanding. The Tiramisu is something to behold!
The pesto is a MUST TRY while you're there! We order several dishes we wanted to try and shared our meals to experience a little bit of everything on the menu. The wine selection was phenomenal and our server was very knowledgeable about which wines would pair well with our different entrees. Highly recommend!
The ambiance and service was top notch. The food was great with one miss. There were 3 of us -- salad, focaccia with Stracchino cheese, the cheese/meat chaurcuterie board were all terrific.
Of the 3 pasta dishes we ordered two were outstanding and one was a miss. The miss was a ragu of wild rabbit which unfortunately contained a few bones. The server wasn't surprised as she said it can happen, but for the diner it was quite off-putting. perhaps a disclaimer from server or on menu description?
But one miss would not stop me from returning there or from recommending the restaurant.
Not only one of the very few finest restaurants in Portland, Solo would be a major restaurant in demand in NYC and/or LA, or any major gourmet city. One of the best eating "events" I have had in all my dining experiences---and I have eaten at some of the greatest restaurants in America.
Wonderful ambiance, great service, fabulous food. We will be back.
Delicious, perfect portion size, incredible
