Amazing experience. Food was delicious, waitstaff knowledgeable and pleasant. Will definitely return again!
Always great food & service.
Homemade pasta is excellent.
amazing place- food, service, ambience all 5 stars. they were so sweet and decorated our dessert for our anniversary.
Living in New York’s Hudson Valley, we are accustomed to fine dining. We feel strongly tha t after two visits to Solo it rivals anything we encounter in New York City and bests many NYC Italian eateries. Bravo! Five Stars!
Always great food and great service!!!
As usual this was everything that we expected it to be: great, attentive service and outstanding food!
The prices have gone up considerably here, so a dinner for four that included only one person’s drink, two desserts, salads and entrées ran us over $300 with tip. The food is always a treat, but that price has made it so that we will only go die very special occasions which is too bad.
Surprise dinner for best friend. Megan, our server was amazing, thoughtful and patient. Food was amazing. GET the mussels! We will be back.
We Love Solo Italiano. Have eaten here numerous times and have been served professionally and have been completely blown away by our experience. The quality of the food is undeniable. I am compelled however to vent a little on the portion served for one of our entrees. There was one shrimp and a piece of sea urchin on pasta that cost $34. ONE SHRIMP! It wasn’t even a “Jumbo “. Think it may be something that needs to be addressed . We work hard for our money and are in the food service industry. This was disappointing.
The food is always delicious. We have been here several times. We finally got the sage focaccia with prosciutto and burrata was out of this world. Light and very tasty. We shared the blanket pasta with their pesto. The best I’ve ever had. My Halibut Anne my husband’s scallop dinners were just delicious. And we couldn’t decide on dessert so we made a tasting selection. And of course the service was great. Can’t wait to go back again.
This place is special. Only our second visit last evening but it just makes us want to return. Gracious, spacious and delicious!
The entire experience here is positive from a starting cocktail at the bar to the fabulous desserts. The team from the front to the service staff work beautifully together to make sure you feel special.
Perfect Italian meal. Hands down. From meal to service to wine.
We celebrated my boyfriend’s Birthday. The high ceilings and large windows were beautiful. Noise level low so you could carry on a conversation. Our service was the best I have ever had. Wine and signature cocktails were excellent. We had 5 shared dishes. scallop crude was small but very good. The sage focaccia with burrata and prosutta was delicious. I loved the handkerchief pasta with their award winning pesto. But my boyfriend did not like his Branzino which did not have crispy skin and was not cooked properly. Teramisu for dessert was great. Very pricey. Great for a special occasion. I would have given a 5 star rating but gave it a 4 because of the small Branzino which was not good.
All in all, the food was very good to excellent. Having said that, there were a few things that made the experience suboptimal. First of all, we were seated close to the entrance where people were hanging out on “top of us” and that was less than ideal. Secondly, the portion sizes are small for the main course. For the cost, they could stand to be bit less “designer”. Thirdly, I never found the waiter to be especially friendly. So, it was a good experience but not amazing.
Great last minute reservation. Food and service was exceptional. Our sever Sarah was great wealth of knowledge of the menu and helped with suggestions & attentive to all our needs, that made this dinner one to remember.
A great place to catch up with friends starting with a warm welcome upon arrival. Our server was very attentive and recommended a wine to complement our group’s meals. Each dish was fit for foodies.
From the sea urchin to the bread pudding and cannolis and everything in between, we had a most memorable meal!!! We love bringing friends here, because we know that the food and experience will be well received, and that as guests of the restaurant, we will be treated with utmost care. Paolo and his team have raised the bar for Italian cuisine in Portland, and continue to do so.
Solo Italiano was delightful. Our waiter was attentive and helpful, the food was outstanding and the atmosphere just beautiful. It was a busy Thursday night but the noise level was fine. It was pricey but so are all restaurants these days. We started with Oxbow beer, then salad, the Maine scallop entree and chocolate souffles with gelato for dessert. All was delicious and beautifully presented.
The handkerchief pasta is astonishingly good. If on both our 1st and 2nd visits the negroni cocktail was made perfectly and served beautifully. The truffled pasta with tongue was phenomenal, If my wife is still trying to figure out how to make the sauce. Our waiter from Albania did a wonderful job of taking care of us
Ordered the linguini w clams. Very nice flavor but for the price it was a joke the amount of pasta that was on plate. I removed the clams from shells and shells from plate. There was literally 4 bites of pasta underneath the shells. I called waiter over and shared my feedback. He was cordial and attempted to justify the pasta portions. I told him it was really really not expected. He offered to bring an additional plate and said I would accept more pasta. Quickly they did bring me a brand new plate, pasta AND clams. I thanked him and took just the pasta. The whole sequence was awkward. Net net if the had put a bit more pasta from start the whole event could have been avoided. They did not charge for the second plate , but I felt cheap which I am not…but justified for providing the feedback to them. I left a 25% tip for the waiter.
I almost never write reviews, especially not critical ones, as I like to support local businesses and have boundless respect for anyone who successfully runs a restaurant. But I felt a duty to give future patrons some due warning. Even in the top Italian restaurants in New York it would be hard to justify $38 for a small plate of overcooked thin-sliced (?) swordfish drizzled with a little mushroom sauce and a pea shoot. Maybe people who think they are getting "good" Italian here think it's worth it? I'm telling you, it's not. An entree that size priced at upwards of $40 better be pretty darn amazing. And yet each dish made me wish I bought a fresh swordfish steak from the fish market down the street and cooked it at home. I am a small person who eats very little and I was starving after finishing my dish. (It was also —ack! —not seasoned properly. I almost asked for salt but didn't want to offend.) My fellow diner's dish was so small I thought they had brought us a half eaten plate by accident. All of the dishes we ordered were flavored unevenly and lazily conceived and executed, despite raised expectations set by the prices. I am happy with small portions, but price them accordingly. Lastly, a picky but telling detail: Using the focaccia from yesterday as a starter (did you think we wouldn't notice?) We buy it from the sister location often and it is delicious fresh. I don't condone wasting food but when you're asking people to pay over $200 for a meal maybe use the day-olds for breadcrumbs instead of starting the meal? On the positive side, the wine was priced fairly and well-recommended. The pizza was the saving grace. (It's lucky we ordered it as we would have all been starving at the end without.) My advice, if you must go, and are not independently wealthy, go for the pizza (still $20) an appetizer with expectations of it being 'fine, not great' and nice glass of wine, but don't waste your money on anything else until they up the standards.
All dishes were excellent, service was very attentive and knowledgable.
The food was delicious, the service extraordinary, the wine excellent and in short supply but the restaurant had alternatives, and the overall experience was exemplary.
The courses were amazing. The service was spot on and the restaurant was perfect for a date night.
The dining experience was wonderful. Delicious food, knowledgeable wait staff, warm/friendly atmosphere, lovely soft lighting.
It is such a joy to eat authentic Italian pasta. The focacia is the best in town and i would like to someday come in with more than one person so we can order lots of different things to share. my friend and I shared a salad , had our own pasta dish and shared the dessert. I havent been in a long time so this was a special night for me.
Exceptional service and exquisite dishes. We will definitely be back.
We had an excellent evening here, as always! Solo Italiano never disappoints. We always find new and creative menu items to choose from and our server was very knowledgeable regarding the food preparation and wine selections. We look forward to returning soon.
Visiting for the first time, night before a road race meal. It was perfect!
We always have an excellent meal here - definitely a go to!!
A great place! We really enjoyed our evening! Highly recommend!
Everything was perfect!
Our waiter was superb! He provided us with excellent advice on food and beverages. Service was prompt without being pushy. Had a wonderful time.
As usual, amazing from start to finish.
Welcome and service was warm and friendly. Server was very knowledgeable.
Food was basic,
This restaurant is overrated and overpriced. We have given it now 3 chances but won’t be going back. Both Food and cocktails were very disappointing. Portland has so many other great restaurants so no need to waist your money here. Service however was excellent and the atmosphere is nice.
Food and service was authentic and great! Would definitely recommend!
