A must do when in Portland. Amazing food, service and wine list
Amazing food and service!
Having traveled for business and pleasure in Italy, my standards are high, and Solo Italino delivered. The cuisine was well selected, prepared and presented. I'll be back next visit to Portland.
Very cozy, intimate setting with first rate food. Food is fresh and beautifully presented. Wait staff attentive and friendly.
Excellent food and atmosphere. No better place for high end Italian.
What a wonderful dining experience
And celebration for my birthday
Even a chocolate printed plate
With candle ❤️
We went for my birthday and had a good time!
Just perfect on every front!!
We had an amazing experience! The food was phenomenal. My father is still raving about how the gonfietti is out of this world! Service was incredible! Our server Kim explained the entire menu to my parents and made suggestions that we all loved! We can’t wait to go back!
We went for our first anniversary and found the food lacked flavor. Our best part was the wine we chose. Our waitress seemed to be frustrated with us and seemed annoyed if we didn’t finish the food. She also told us that portions were small and to order a few things. The portions were normal and we felt she said this to enhance our bill. The environment was beautiful but not worth the price for flavorless food. Would not go back.
What a wonderful meal we had in a great relaxing setting. So enjoyable and relaxing.
Food was stellar. Smaller portion size than I thought but kind of expected it. Overall, great experience.
Definitely a great place to meet someone friends on a Friday night:)
We have loved Solo Italiano in the past. The seating during Covid was very appropriate as was the handkerchief pesto pasta. Next time I would ask for it to be more tender cooked! Delicious flavor, though. We will come back.
Shared 5 plates, apps and entrees, and everything was absolutely delicious! Been to Solo multiple times and it never disappoints. Fabulous restaurant with exceptional food.
Our reprise after a 2 year first, wonderful meal with scallops in citrus, basil and grapefruit and buratta to start, followed by their green salad with shaved pecorino and balsamic rosemary garlic dressing. We each chose a different main plate; the handkerchief pasta with pesto was lovely, cod-filled ravolini, pan-seared monkfish and farm roasted pork leg. Our server was attentive but low key, the space is lovely, cocktails inventive and wine terrific. Not inexpensive but absolutely worthwhile.
The meal was excellent as always, with a well curated wine list to choose from. Highly recommended.
Solo is our go-to spot in Portland. Outstanding food ( we had octopus and beet-cured salmon, followed by scallops and rabbit), lovely people, terrific service. We had table service last time but often eat at the bar. Really comfortable atmosphere that permits conversation.
Another amazing dinner at my favorite restaurant in Portland. I live in New York City now and nothing measures up to Solo!
Upscale authentic northern Italian food with ambiance. I had the tuna tartare to start followed by a roasted beet salad and the signature pesto on handkerchief pasta. My husband had a focaccia with prosciutto and fresh mozzarella, helped me with the beet salad and ravioli in an herb sauce. For dessert we shared a cookie plate and a glass of vin santo each. Everything was superb. Everything. Our waitress was efficient and very helpful. Highly recommend.
Wonderfully executed food. Great bar. Leave room for dessert and amaro.
We went to Solo to celebrate my girlfriends birthday. The restaurant is right on Commercial Street in the midst of the Old Port. The restaurant has a wonderful ambiance with a very decorative floral display and herb garden boxes throughout the restaurant. We started our dinner with a lovely crudo of tuna tartare, then followed it with a grilled octopus antipasti, and then an insalata of butternut squash and radicchio. Our pasta dish was gnocchi tossed in a basil cream sauce which was out of this world. Our final courses included a ribeye with truffle frites and braised rabbit with baby potatoes, coupled with both a Rosa and a Bianco. We also had some of their craft cocktails to include a honey inspired cocktail and the vecchio. I highly recommend the vecchio. The end of our meal we enjoyed the tiramisu and a cylinder of chocolate that when melted revealed cherries and pistachios. I highly recommend Solo for special occasions and a unique dining experience resembling what you would receive if you dined in Genoa.
Imaginative menu, lovely welcoming service, felt comfortable with Covid protocol.
Excellent food! All 5 members of my family loved the food. The best restaurant we ate in during our 8 day vacation.
A wonderful place to celebrate the pandemic. Will go again.
The food was outstanding!
First of all, our waitress brought us focaccia bread with olive oil for dipping while my husband drank a craft beer and I sipped on a glass of wine. For an app, we shared a well presented cheese board which had a variety of quality Italian cheeses and meats. For his entree, my husband had scallops which he thoroughly enjoyed. I chose a clam dish with their house specialty of home made linguine. For dessert we had sorbets. My husband had the lemon one and I had peach. So if you are celebrating a special birthday or anniversary or are looking for an exquisite, fine dining experience in the Old Port, plan on making a reservation at Solo Italiano. It is Belissimo!
Huge fan! My sister and I have come here for birthdays a couple of times now and it has been amazing each time. We're looking forward to coming back again soon.
Definitely recommend the locally sourced pork roast on a bed of cabbage and mashed potatoes, melted in your mouth.
Excellent recommendations on wine pairing as well.
Always very fresh and great food
Food and wine was wonderful. Northern Italian cuisine.
Fantastic flavors and outstanding/knowledgeable service. Great cocktails too!
Split a charcuterie board, beet salad and cod roll-up with husband. It was good but not the best we’ve had. Service was attentive and pleasant. Party of 6 two tables away very loud- to the point I couldn’t have a normal conversation with my husband. Rude. Best thing about the experience was the wine.
Great service, delicious food in a warm, clean atmosphere. Although, a bit pricey.
Food was very good, excellent waitstaff. Our reservation was for 5:30 p.m. so restaurant was not extremely busy, quiet surroundings. I would suggest different background music, but it is only my preference to have more in keeping with more modern Italian style. Loved the assorted cheeses, meats and bread board. We shall return.
Sorry but we did not enjoy the food. Both of us were disappointed. I felt mine was drowning in olive oil. Husband had a seafood dish with very little seafood. The mussels were good. Why not Italian music? Why "Band on the Run" by Wings?
The portions are extremely tiny for the price point, which can almost be forgiven due to the fact that everything tasted terrible. The Gnocchi didn't have any gnocchi, it was just lava hot cheese and polenta. The truffle pasta was maybe the worst. Truffle in an umami rich food. That was a ball of sticky pasta with dried shroom slices on it.
Always good .. yet to disappoint .. from drinks to dessert .. service friendly knowledgeable re menu, wine ...
Perfection! We arrived to an unplanned power outage-fast forward post the amazing cocktails, to HUGE bayisle mussels, INCREDIBlE Pesto & Truffle pasta dishes to FANTASTIC swordfish (seared/fileted thinly) w/ funghi dish & finished w/ YUMMY dolce of choc tart w/ passionfruit...meeting Chef Paolo perfect ending to our evening up in Portland. My partner being Italian, its difficult to reach the high standard good Italian cooking deserves...We reached the summit with Solo Italiano, just an hours drive from home. Cin Cin!
