We grew up in Italy and stayed there into our adulthood. However, a few years ago, we decided to join the rest of our family here in San Diego. Our strong passion for food and our Italian roots led us to the opportunity to take over ownership of SoleLuna. As the new owners of our restaurant, we've made sure to incorporate our native country into our menu by developing and crafting authentic recipes that are true to our homeland. The region of Italy we are from, Emilia Romagna, is known for Balsamic Vinegar, Parmesan Cheese, prosciutto, and other cold cuts, so we try to celebrate these regional delicacies in each dish we serve. We’re big on authenticity, but we’re also big on using fresh ingredients and making everything we can from scratch (the things we don’t, we import from Italy). At SoleLuna, we really truly believe that happiness is homemade.

Not the best, sorry. Food was ok. Fast service. Good location.
Service needs help, pretty slow and took forever to be greeted. Food was decent would go back, hopefully servers were just having an off night.
Great meal and enjoyed the atmosphere. Will go again.
Everything was great. Evenly paced. I got seated early and the service was overall fantastic. The entire party was very pleased with the restaurant.
First time my family and I have dined at this restaurant.
The food was decent. My lasagna was fantastic, but my daughters pizza could have been cooked a little longer
( was good but a little doughy ) my wife’s dish was so so .
The one draw back was our server was very inexperienced and needed more training as a waiter . He was was nice guy but young and needed more personality and social graces . We felt a little rushed and the place was not close to being full of customers. All and all ok place . Needs more authenticity as an Italian establishment.
I feel like they were just going through the motions.
Cozy, friendly service. Ate outdoors during Covid.
Definitely a first date spot, it was simply PERFEECTO:) w/one minor flaw, the waiter, his energy was so wrong for hospitality. He was slightly short tempered, brothersome and not very inviting. But besides that, the cafe is a thumbs up:)
Nice, quiet little Italien Cafe. The food was delicious, not fancy but very good! Would recommend to anyone in the area near the historic El Cortez.
We always try to go to Sole Luna Cafe either for breakfast or dinner whenever we are in San Diego. Always so good! Food is always fresh and service exceptional. Their Bloody Marys are the best. They have gluten free options, too!
The food and drinks were outstanding! We will be eating here again.
As always Soleluna and it’s staff were terrific.
Excellent food and service and a must visit restaurant if you are in the area. Due to Covid limited seating make sure you make a reservation for outdoor seating and great location to sit outdoor in downtown San Diego for a delicious meal.
The best homemade Italian food. My whole family loves it!!!
What a nice find. We came in for Labor Day weekend and found this gem. Great outdoor dining area and the food was excellent. I had the chicken with artichokes which was very flavorful and accented by tasty greens. Service and drinks great as well. Thanks for a great meal!
Great authentic Italian food.
Only 3 tables occupied upon our arrival, did not feel welcomed from the beginning. Our waiter, Massimo, seemed to be in a hurry and did not provide us any personalized attention. I wanted this to be a special evening for a very special little girls birthday...I left so upset that we didn't even eat most of the meal. It started when we ordered a Margarita pizza with pepperoni, he retorted "thats a pepperoni pizza", I said I wanted the Margarita pizza with pepperoni, not a pepperoni pizza. he again said"thats a pepperoni pizza", I let it go and decided to wait and see what came to the table. We ordered 2 appetizers and drinks while we waited for our food. He brought the food out and set down a pepperoni pizza. I told him I asked for Margarita pizza with pepperoni, he said that's it. I asked where are the slices of mozzerella, tomatoes and basil?
He said that's it abruptly, he left and came back with a side of basil and droped it on the table in front of me said here. I was speechless. The chicken alfredo was very dry, my lasagna was soupy and not I piece of garnish appeared on ANY thing!!! This is suppose to be an upscale italian restaurant , this was do better than a take out shop. I did not receive my salad that I ordered and just asked him for a refund. If I had been brave enough I would have left the tip off, but I'm not that kind of person. I can promise you I will never patronize your establishment again and I do have many family members in the San Diego area who have been voted best restauranteurs many years over that I will be sharing my experience with who I'm sure will word of mouth this feedback and I intend to notify the hotel that gave us suggestions and Open Table
We had a nice socially distanced brunch with our friends. Yummy potatoes and lots of good menu choices.
Amazing food and amazing staff thank you for a great first time to your restaurant
Great place to eat
We were staying at the Holiday Inn Express across the street and needed something to eat. Employees not wearing protective gear properly especially the man in the kitchen preparing the food . Lasagna was excessively greasy
A family owned gem with delicious Italian focused menu. Food is excellent, service is good and they have increased their outdoor seating due to COVID restrictions.
Eating outside was a treat and staff was very friendly!
THE WAFFLE WAS AMAZING! AMAZING SERVICE! AMAZING TEAM & AMAZING OWNER! THIS PLACE WILL SOON BE THE REGULAR MEETING SPOT FOR THE SAN DIEGO FILM INDUSTRY. Thank you!
Very nice restaurant great food and a discount if going to symphony, servers very efficient and nice.
A bit of a walk from our apartment at Ash and Pacific Hwy but well worth it. Ate before the symphony and was surprised they have a standing discount for diners going to the symphony which is only two blocks away. Good food by good people, we are glad to find another good Italian restaurant nearby.
What a great neighborhood restaurant. There was a large menu and the food was very good!
The food and service were superior across the board!!!
Authentic and fresh options such as the handmade gnocchi, bruschetta and cheese board that my husband loved. My kids loved the pizza and we had a great afternoon outside in the patio. I would definitely go back and would recommend to all!
Very nice very good service!
Very nice local neighborhood restaurant. Food is great. Staff is warm and friendly
Nice neighborhood Italian restaurant with great service and great food at great value. The happy hour deals are superb and the food is really good. I’d recommend this place to anybody visiting San Diego or as a regular “go to” restaurant for San Diego residents.
Went there for brunch, wish their lunch menu was available after 11AM, but it is not available until 2 PM on Sundays. Brunch very average.
This a real find. Great Italian food. Two block from the SD Symphony (uphill walk).
To Eat, Perhaps to Dream of What to Choose Next Visit
We subscribe to our San Diego Symphony Masterworks series, so often arrive downtown early enough to nab street parking and get a light supper. Too bad we’ve been missing out on this gem! Soleluna, just a block uphill from Symphony Hall, also gives a 20 percent discount to Symphony goers As well as both happy hour specials and, my recommendation, their House Specials. Oh, those are all pure deliciousness.
Thank You; great service and food. I would recommend this restaurant to my family and friends.
We went to try SoleLuna out for Restaurant Week. My wife is gluten-free, but the menu indicated GF options were available. We had reservations via OpenTable and were sat immediately. Unfortunately that was the only thing that went well.
When we received the menu, only 2 items were marked as GF. I asked if they could clarify with the chef if some of the menu items that did not have pasta were GF. With an attitude, they did ask and indicated the dish she wanted was GF.
My wife ordered the tuna and I ordered the sausage/mushroom gnocchi. Attempt 1 at the tuna was a complete fail. First, the waiter brought it out sayiing the chef wasn't sure about the seasoning so he made it plain. My wife was confused since she distinctly told them it would be fine when ordering, but of course, they knew better. The tuna steak was flavorless and overrcooked. It was returned and round 2 was improved.
My gnocchi was OK, but missing basic seasoning and Parmesan. The ratio of sausage/mushrooms/gnocchi was off - there was essentially 4 pieces of sausage to about 60 mushrooms and 40 gnocchi. Again, just OK in flavor missing any seasoning.
Service was fairly slow. It was pretty busy and there were only 2 wait staff. I don't fault the wait staff - just poorly staffed for restaurant week.
I will not be back. There are too many other great restaurants in San Diego to pay for under-seasoned food with marginal service.
Great ambiance and food! Very friendly staff too! I highly recommend Soleluna Cafe
Food was delicious and service was wonderful!
It was great! It was really fun
Soleluna advertised a Symphony special. We went to the symphony, were looking for Italian close by, so gave it a try. My wife and I had dinner. My meal was excellent, the dish recommended by our waiter. My wife's dish was chicken with pasta, chicken was tough and not much flavor. The salad we got was a joke, Mickey D's does a better job. Wine recommended by the waiter was very good, but I noticed when going thru my charge slips they did not give us the 50% discount on the wine, which means the wine cost $40, not the $20 expected. Yes, my fault for not reading more carefully before we left but we were getting late for the concert because of the extremely slow service. We have had too many other great San Diego dinner experiences that I would not go back to Soleluna.
Food has slipped a little o our last visit. Pizza was doughy - not cooked enough. And my veggies were over-cooked. Maybe just a bad night because in past visits veggies were perfect and pizza was crisp.
