Solea Restaurant and Tapas Bar Ratings and Reviews
My first time dining here. The food was quite good and the server was very knowledgable and attentive, without being obtrusive. The only complaint was a minor one: we were seated at a window table in the corner of the room and the windows have blinds. There was a small blind which kept flapping because of its proximity to an A/C vent. A simple clip would have solved the problem but the hostess, who was aware of the problem, said the restaurant didn't have one. She did offer a change of table for us but it would seem to be a recurring problem which has an obvious solution. Overall, I would recommend the restaurant.
The meal was absolutely delicious. The tapas we selected were served at the perfect temperature and every plate that arrived was better than the last. The scallops in saffron cream were incredible and I'm salivating at the thought of them. An incredible meal and a lovely environment, with attentive and courteous staff. Highly recommended.
The food at Solea was very good. The tomato, basil and goat cheese tapa was exceptionally well made; the seasonings were subtle and melded nicely. The yucca stuffed ancho chili was excellent. I usually judge a tapas restaurant by the patatas bravas, and at Solea they weren't at the top of the mark although they were very good. The potatoes weren't quite done and they weren't as spicy as I would have liked. The restaurant was buzzing, with lots of groups and some families with older kids. The service was attentive and helpful. The front of the house staff were excellent. This was my first visit, and I definitely will return.
Solea is right in the heart of downtown Waltham, open to the sounds and sights of a vibrant downtown scene -- the entire front of the restaurant opens to the night air. If you have a reservation, you are efficiently shown to your table and the service is superb. Be warned, the portions are VERY generous -- if you decide to order several tapas selections, know that you will be hard pressed to finish everything. The choices and quality are excellent -- I can't tell whether to cold tapas dishes are better than the hot ones, but any choice will provide you will an excellent experience. The sangria was an excellent addition to the meal -- and the desserts were fabulous. All in all, a perfect experience!
Solea is an extremely fun dining experience. I love sharing tapas and getting to taste a lot of different items. Sharing food is always fun. Also there is a fun selection of drinks to go with the food. The food here is consistently yummy. My only negative comment is that the tables for two are quite small, and it is hard to fit much on the table.
I went to Solea with a group of 10; our waitress knew the menu inside and out, handled the madness of our order, and made great recommendations. The food was delicious (I recommend the short rib with banana - I want it right now!). I plan to be back again and again!
Solea Restaurant was indeed a delight. We were looking for a new dining experience that was convenient to our hotel in Waltham. Solea did not let us down. Service, food and ambiance were all great. My wife returned the next morning to take pictures of the flowerboxes (too dark at night). We'll definitely include the Solea Restaurant on our next visit to the Boston area.
The food was good and there was a good selection of tapas to choose from. Unfortunately we were seated next to a large party who were very noisy. Normally I am pretty observant of being seated next to large parties, but it was set up and occupied after our party of four was seated. Many times it was difficult to hear the conversation at our own table of four due to the noise. It would have been nice if Solea's had advised us that there was going to be a large party in the function room we were going to be seated in. The service was fair for a busy Saturday night.
The Tapas Nuevas were great, specially the Marmitako, cooked true to its roots and an abundant and satisfying dish for a "tapa". All tapas are very tasty. I always order the quail, kind of my "dessert" as it has a nice dark chocolately sauce. The tostones are great, the palta reina was OK, the langostinos were very good. Everything we ordered was yummy.
Highly recommend and a great value for outstanding food.
Great place! Loved the decor; not at all what I expected...and LOVED it! Great food; waiter was very accommodating to our schedule (we were late for the reservation, and we were in a rush to the theater) Great before (or after!) the Reagle Players in Waltham!
The four of us had a variety of inventive tapas and sangria. All were distinctive and delicious. What we especially liked was that we sat there for three hours without being rushed. What a treat! Just like being back in Spain! Terrific environment for catching up with old friends.
I am a lover of the tapas experience. I have been to Dali, Tapeo, Tasca, Cuchi Cuchi and SOLEA and love all of them. It had been awhile since I had been to one of these tapas restaurants, and SOLEA did not disappoint. I was pleased to see some new tapas on the menu and their expansion did not take away from the romantic, Spanish cuevas feel of the venue. It's as if one is visiting a tapas bar in La Plaza Mayor. Well done. Unfortunately, our waiter was not the most endearing - seemed to have a bit of attitude and rushed us at the beginning. However, we swiftly got over that and just enjoyed ourselves.
Fantastic!!! This is one of my favorite places and this visit didn't disappoint! The food is amazing, the ambience is somehow hip, fun, and yet romantic too, so although I've only ever been there with friends, I can see it would also be a great place for a date. Get the artichoke and spinach fritters, pork sausage with fig and some breaded goat cheese thing with honey and cranberry sauce - unbelievable. And sangria of course. :) They open up the entire front of the restaurant so it's open to the street, so it feels almost like dining al fresco. Love it!
our food was excellently prepared and served promptly. Since it was a hot summer evening we just had a some generously portioned tapas, we'll have entrees at our next visit. Our waiter was attentive and friendly. We would definitely recommend this restaurant to others
