Food was excellent! Service would have been excellent but waiter brought dinner three minutes after the appetizer even though we asked for time to enjoy appetizer. Sorry, that just bugged me. Prices a little on the high side but food was delicious.
Our dinner was great! In fact I’ve never had a bad meal there! It was early so it’s wasn’t busy and the service was perfect. We will definitely come back again and again!
Lovely staff and great food! Many options and the kitchen is willing to modify dishes.
Charcuterie was a nice start. Pizza as an app was a good choice. All the entrées were well executed. Crème Brule is special.
It was my husband‘s birthday. I love the feel of the room visually, and the food is outstanding! Also our bottle of wine was amazing. Unfortunately that is where the enjoyment ends. The service was kind of choppy, with some items being forgotten, but she was EXTREMELY pleasant the whole time, just missing steps. The most critical part that the room was extremely hot from the time we started our dinner until the end ( party of 7 ppl,, there just over 2 hrs). At dessert time we were actually ready to just leave because it was so uncomfortable, we had to ask the server to try and get us some air by opening windows. On that point the windows didn’t work and we had to prop one of them open with a bread box. I love this restaurant and intend on coming back, but this encounter unfortunately missed the mark :(
Solare was mentioned in the Michelin Guide as Bib Gourmand. Unfortunately, the dishes missed the mark by lacking identity and boldness.
The Frittura di Pesce all’Italiana is authentic enough to remind us of Sardinia. The Solare’s Bisque di Granchio di Roccia had good essence but was lacking in quantity. The Linguine alle Vongole was dramatically overcooked - rendering the pasta dead, while the flavor was completely average. Finally, the Guancia al Barolo Beef Cheeks had a bland taste with mismatched sides. The wine list was very limited.
The bill was high end (expect $75+ p/p). The venue was located very close from the airport and was extremely noisy with the constant planes taking off from SAN. The service was professional and accommodating.
Unfortunately, I can’t recommend this restaurant and I will not be coming back again.
Great menu options, good wine list, outdoor seating was lovely.
Always consistently good service. Great place for outdoor dining.
Good food and service. Not as traditional as expected but the food offerings were nice. Calamari was amazing as was the catch of the day. Would come back.
WOW. Blown away by the delicious food and the wine list is superb with exceptional bottles! We’ve been wanting to try Solare for the longest time. Everything we ordered was amazing. Can’t wait to come back!
I have never waited so long at a restaurant in my life. We had reservations and still had to wait so long between visits from the server, not even checking in to apologize for the wait or offer us anything to hold us over etc. Just basic customer service. Instead he was chit chatting in the back with coworkers.
The cioppino was awful; no flavor/flat and muddled. One whole scallop, 4 small shrimp and a couple pieces of fish.
The catch of the day was good. The cocktails were only okay.
We wanted dessert but were given the bill before we could even ask and were never offered.
For two people dining out it took two hours get through a main course and an appetizer.
Save your trip and pick another place you’re wanting to try.
It started out great with high hopes. Calamari appetizer was delicious and Beet salad was a beautiful presentation and lovely flavor but then the wait - over almost an hour for our entrees the Risotto with Scallops - 3 small and I mean really small and not very fresh scallops sitting on a bed of runny and tasteless risotto. No herbs, no flavor and no parmagiana a $30 disaster the only thing on the plate that was flavorful was the truffle slices and those were the best part of the dish. I can make better risotto in my Instant Pot and in half the time it took to bring whatever that was to our table. The fish of the day was a pistacio crusted Halibut and it was a lovely piece of fish but it was overcooked and dry sitting on potato slices. We didn't see the waiter after the appetizer hit the table It was a disaster. Will not go here again.
We had a lovely dinner on the patio. Server was attentive and quickly brought our drinks and food. The lasagna was delicious, probably the best I ever had. Everyone at the table enjoyed the food and commented on what a good choice I made when I suggested dinner at Solare. We have eaten there before and are never disappointed.
Exceptional dining experience! Excellent food, attentive and professional staff, and a casual and warm atmosphere. I am making Solare one of my favorites for the future.
Nothing authentic about the food. Overall, I must say this restauranr is substandard at best.
Absolutely amazing Italian meal. Top notch from start to finish. Staff was friendly and courteous.
Great food and service. Our friends from New York were impressed.
We could not have been more impressed with Solare! We were there to celebrate a difficult anniversary and they could not have been more kind or accommodating to us. Not only was the service amazing but the food was incredible! I highly recommend the Cioppino
Good selection of wine and craft beer. Food is delicious. Some dishes are pricy, but reasonable overall. Location and ambiance is great, but I just wished it wasn't in the path of airplanes. Being close to the airport, overhead planes are pretty loud, but at least they don't fly by as often to not being able to have a nice conversation.
Over rated food tasted and felt like it was under a heat lamp for hours. Way over priced place just sucked. I actually took the time to write the review. That’s saying a lot.
One of the best in San Diego.
My fiancé took me to Solaré for my birthday and it did not disappoint! Everything we tasted was exceptional, particularly the butternut squash soup and pistachio creme brûlée, and the service was outstanding. We can’t wait to visit again soon!
Hadn't been here in a few years. The service was great. The food was excellent and very creative dishes. My wife and I especially liked the presentation on the tiramisu.
Excellent Italian food. Took family members visiting from Alaska -- they were impressed.
We had a wonderful dinner on the patio and brought our 2 small dogs with us. They offer gluten free pizza, bread, pasta, and desserts and they were also able to modify the lamb chops to be GF for me which I was very grateful for. Wonderful service and ambiance. We will definitely go back again soon.
Pacing remains the Achilles heal of the restaurant.
Lovely! Food delicious. Service was polite. Wine recommendation was fantastic.
Pretty good food, but not as romantic as I had expected.
Everything about Solare was first-class from the friendliness and efficiency of our server to the food which was expertly cooked and served. I would highly recommend visiting the restaurant when and if you have a chance.
From Nashville visiting.
Great service from the moment we arrived. Very friendly staff. Ordered a bottle of my favorite wine. They were out, so Randy (owner) came by the table to apologize and offer a suitable sub. Ended up they were out of that too, so he upgraded the selection for the same price as my original pick. Food and ambiance were fantastic and I definitely recommend to anyone living near San Diego or if visiting. Best Italian around. Hope to visit again someday.
P.S. - outdoor seating was tempting but airplane noise was quite loud. Inside was great.
Amazing homemade pasta. I would go again.
Risotto and beef cheek were nice. Octopus appetizer and chocolate mouse was better than pistachio cream brûlée. Excellent Pinot Grigio.
Slow service the night we went
Delicious food and great ambiance. The owner is wonderful. Pricing is on the high side and if you’re in a hurry, this isn’t the place for you.
Food was good and plentiful, service reasonably attentive. I was disappointed that a dish I had seen on the menu online and planned to order was not being offered last night. Planes roaring overhead—we sat outside—were noisy and distracting. Next time we will sit inside.
We had a great Father's Day dinner. Wonderful seasonal salad (beet, it was beautiful and delicious) and our pasta and salmon entrees were delicious. They also have a terrific dessert menu and great choices for beverages. We ate outside which was really nice. Great evening!
Great food and service. Will definitely come back.
