Dinner was, as always outstanding. Solare has a great reputation & it is well deserved - Some of the best Italian in the State. There to celebrate my wife's birthday, we decided to try items from the weekly specials menu. Braised beef Cheeks & Octopus Linguini, as well as 2 excellent wines [by the glass] from their extensive wine list. Our server was, as always attentive, but not overbearing as some tend to be
Good place. Would go again but prefer veal osso bucco
Fantastic experience, the food was terrific!
Love Love Love this place. Every time we go, there is something new and tasty on the menu. Their specials really show off great Italian/Sicilian cooking, yet bring together local ingredients. The fish is always fresh, as is the pasta. The pizzas are perfect and authentic. The wine list is huge!! Lots of good selections. Not sure if I like Solare more in the evening, or sitting outside in the afternoon with a bottle of wine and some pizza. OK... I guess I can do both. ;-)
The restaurant is lovely - lots of seeing outside and inside - charming -
Food was good but service was not great - felt rushed in the dining room and ignored in the bar -
Very close to a place we like in Rome. Food is better at Solare. Service is superb.
The food was excellent; flavorful and interesting. The service was attentive but not bothersome. Good noise level so one could converse across the table.
This restaurant was rated as one of the most romantic in the country.......we missed that.....??
Still a nice place and fun to go to
An epicurean delight - upscale Italian food preparations that far exceed the standard fare. We were there on a busy night so the normally vivacious and attentive service waned a little. In addition, a rather boisterous large party interrupted the normal reserved atmosphere.
We were there to celebrate my brother's birthday and he was definitely impressed. As usual, the owner (or in the past - the chef) stopped by to ensure the meals met their high standards. It is that attention-to-detail and genuine concern for the customer that keeps me coming back (that and the extraordinary desserts).
Loved their happy hour menu! Great value and delicious too!
The lamb chops were excellent. All of the desserts were intriguing.
Well, the food here was great. My experience was a bit less than expected. Requested the wine room.... didn’t get it. Celebrating a birthday.... not acknowledged even though it was noted in the reservation. Waited much too long to be seated, or ever see a host or hostess.
Probably would not return.
Knowledgeable and nice waiter
Wide selection of dishes and wines but not overwhelming
Delicious home-made bread and pasta
Elegant settings and candlelight
Very nice restaurant. Food was great. Liked the fact that every thing is cooked fresh. Only issue was the service as a little slow like refilling drinks and checking up on us.
Valentines Date Night. Best restaurant in San Diego. Incredible staff, crazy good virtuoso chef, friendly comfortable atmosphere, wine, cocktails, ...the total package. Get thee to Solare!
Waiter was nowhere to be found when needed, the maître d' who was also waiting on us (bringing the glasses of wine over) stunk of cigarettes, we were not wowed by the food (pasta was over-cooked, as was the pork shank). We planned for a pleasant evening out but the whole experience was over in a flash and suddenly we were home again having spent in excess of $140 for a rather forgettable evening.
Had a wonderful meal, with excellent service and congenial staff.
I went with a group of friends for Happy Hour. Fair warning - only half the dining room does Happy Hour, so if you want it, request it! The small plates are VERY small (think 2 meatballs about the size of a ping pong ball for the Polpette). The food was good though and we had a fun time out on the patio.
We (2 couples) got together to catch up and have a wonderful meal & wine . We were all very happy with our food, the service, and the wine. The osso buco and pappardelle pasta were outstanding.
sixth time in four weeks we have dined here-great food and service - i now feel at home there but I have to return to Chicago. Try it, you will like it.
Not only was the food great but we got to meet the owner-Randy- and had a wonderful conversation with him about cooking classes held at the restaurant every other Saturday and some trips to Mexico that he hosts a few times a year.
Went for restaurant week, the selection was awful, and the food was tasteless, I've had better food in a cafeteria. The service was excellent but the restaurant was very noisy. I will not return for any restaurant week activity to any restaurant. I feel ripped off.
We had dinner reservations but they seated us in the bar. Food was OK, noise level was excessive, and service was solicitous but not efficient.
Excellent meal! Wonderful service. Pedro was exceptional and made sure everything was correct. The ambiance and decoration is beautiful and so elegant. A nice bonus Solare offers is a corkage fee to bring in a special bottle of wine. Really makes a dinner when the food is amazing. We will be going back again in April and May during our trips to San Diego.
Even though head chef wasn't there dishes were coming out that he could be VERY proud of!
We had a large party and Soloare accommodated is at short notice. I had the salmon which was excellent and others were quite happy with the pizzas and pastas they ordered. We were on the patio, however, indoor dining looks nice as well. Worth another visit.
Great restaurant!!!! Food is delicious, service is friendly and professional and ambiance is wonderful!!
We have enjoyed Solare on past visits to San Diego. This trip we were in town for 4 days and dined at Solare twice! It was a real pleasure - food and service were excellent.
Great food. I did not love the calamari though. The entree, drink, dessert and wine were great.
Fantastic food and service. We had the Restaurant Week menu and enjoyed risotto and scallops. Also, the pasta with saffron and lamb was delicious. Creative Italian crusine. Recommend for ambieance and relaxing dinner. We were not rushed! Enjoy!
Ordered pasta and the portion was not generous. It was good, but very limited menu due to restaurant week. Had I remembered it was that special week, would never have gone out. Hate what restaurants do during that time.
Incredible food and service. Will make Solare a go-to place for us!
Loved it all, but a bit too loud.
One of our favorite restaurants, the food and service are always outstanding! Delighted to see they've made their lasagna with bolognese sauce a permanent listing on their menu. We celebrate our wedding anniversary there every year, as they did such a fabulous job hosting our wedding reception in their private dining room.
This is my second visit and I enjoyed the food and experience so much that I’m return next week! The smoked salmon fettuccine had a Smokey creamy balance that I just loved and my son enjoyed the classic sphagetti with meatballs. My husband had a different fish dish but ate it so fast I don’t recall what it was... but he loved it!
Have been to Solare many times and I have never been disappointed. This time we had a group of 12 and the service was superb. This is my go to restaurant for any occasion. The chefs menu is the best in San Diego, everything is fresh and you will not be disappointed.
Great food, good atmosphere and good ambiance.
Everything was amazing. The staff was atuned to everyone. Food was unique and extremely tasty. The lemon gnocchi was amazing. Nice wine selection.
Everything was excellent here from the atmosphere to the delicious salad, calamari and pasta dishes. Noise level is a little distracting. Loved our waiter, but can't remember his name. He has the best laugh! Reminded us of Robin Williams. Will definitely return and recommend.
quite possibly one of the most civilized lunches to be found in SD. thanx to chef Accursio Lota for training his kitchen staff to fill his shoes when he's not in house. swordfish special over lentils and artichokes was superb and perfectly prepared. Tommy would be proud. Kudos to excellent service by Taylor and much appreciation for allowing us to have an intimate family reunion in the private wine room.
