Sola Pasta Bar
Simplicity and balance of taste defines the restaurant's concept: matching a few perfectly chosen ingredients with the techniques and precision necessary to turn a great dish into a true sensory experience. What makes the difference between good food and great food? We have no doubt that the answer to this question is the passion of the person preparing the food.

Went to Sola for date night and had a reservation sitting at the bar. Great atmosphere and food is delicious. We had the rigatoni carbonara which was recommended by the waiter and we loved it. Would definitely recommend this small intimate restaurant. TIP: make a reservation, even on a Sunday night it gets very busy after 7pm.
Great food. Extremely loud. So don’t go if you want to chat.
Major rip off, food is whatever and prices are high, try somewhere else.
Good food. Horrible service! Paid 18% gratuity but service was 100% was not worth it considering the $500+ tab.
Loud techno music. not a match for ambiance. Also service was terrible.
Life is a combination of magic and pasta.
Sola Pasta Bar is a place that I’ve been pining to go to. The pasta is cooked in woks. In front of you. So you have a ringside seat and participating in an immersive experience. But let’s get to it, start off with the showstoppers then close off with the starters:
This menu is small but each dish meticulously executed. Every plate, a piece taken care of with discipline, competence, professionalism, and a touch of flare. The Chef knowing that you under their spell. Chef Diego is a wizard and Richie and the rest of the staff took great care of us. I look forward to coming back.
Way too expensive and loud for food that did not taste good.
Accidentally didn’t ask the market price on truffle pasta... ooof $45! Really tasty but a little expensive
Absolutely amazing! My husband had the TAGLIATELLE AL ROSMARINO AL RAGU and loved it. I had the TONNARELLI CACIO E PEPE. I was ad when there were only a few bites left...even though I was stuffed! The dish was delicious! The cocktails were great, especially the white cosmo. Our server was wonderful. We met a friend, who was about 30 minutes late. He didn’t make us feel rushed while we waited. He kept bringing cocktails and bread. The portion size is nice and price is really reasonable especially for NYC. I can’t wait until we return to the city so we can eat here again!!
Delicious and well-portioned. Service could be more attentive.
The rosemary ragu was to die for ! Great pasta place in Soho!
Music extremely loud, impossible to talk. Waiters unorganized and not really attentive. More interested in making selfies than serving guests. Food and ambiente great!
Music way to loud to have a conversation at dinner. The food was so so. The waiter had good intentions but a birthday surprise was spoiled by the cook. There needs to be communication between the staff ahead of time. Not sure would go back.
Sola is truly authentic Italian cuisine. The portions are fair with the price and the quality is exceptional. My only critique is it was sooo loud in the restaurant. I went to meet with international friends around 6pm and we had a really difficult time conversing. So, definitely check this place out if you are looking for a louder atmosphere. The food will not disappoint!
Host, waiter and chefs were all so personable!!! A very special experience.
Pastas were all excellent; Cacio e Pepe, Aglio e olio was especially tasty. Husband ordered Linguini Verdi Spinaci E Piselli which was excellent but very heavy so he had a hard time finishing. We all thought aglio e olio was the best. Also ordered the salumi platter and it was a great starter along with the parmigiana di melanzane, excellent as well. Overall an excellent meal, albeit on the heavier side. Cannolis were really good! Only negative was the loud music which made hearing each other difficult.
Amazing dishes. Four of us went, and we shared three appetizers (salamis & cheese, Burrata w/ Prosciutto, and Vittelo Tonato) OMG!!! Amazing. And we sat at the cooking bar, so we can see it all.
Alex suggested a Great Beet Salad which was TO DIE FOR.
Washing it all down with a nice Barolo.
Then the entree's, we each ordered a dish and shared; Linguini Pesto (rich green and yummy), ziti Ragu (TASTY), black linguini with clams (OMG!!) and an alio/olio buccatini (good finish!)
Ended the night with some Double Espresso's! FUN FOOD AND GOOD COMPANY!
the pasta itself was excellent but my dish was so drowned in pesto sauce it was hard to even taste the pasta. the noise level was excruciating- very loud electronica which was
not really pleasant over a dinner table
One of the best pasta meals of my life. Almost went back the next night!
Food was mostly good my pasta carbonara was super salty and would not order it again. Service was lacking never refilled waters, never asked us if we wanted another drink. Better Italian restaurants around the area will not be coming back here
I am a little conflicted about Sola ... I have followed their Instagram for awhile now & really wanted to try it.
It is a restaurant that purposefully puts their kitchen front & center with bar seating all around it in the middle of the dining room. We went for lunch on a Saturday & sat at the bar in front of the chefs' stations. We were the only customers there besides one family of three that came in about 15 minutes after we were seated & two other couples who came in while we were waiting for our check.
Pros: the pasta was actually very good.
1) We noticed after we had eaten & were waiting for our check that the two chefs were constantly touching their faces (i.e. their mouths & noses) as well as each other with their gloved hands & using those same gloves to touch the food. The chef would break off a piece of pasta & then put his whole hand on his mouth to see if it was done. He did this for every single pasta dish he made while we were there. If the whole point of their restaurant is that they are cooking/prepping the food in front of their customers, I would have hoped they would have been better about hygiene.
2) The chef took out a plastic container of sauce & part of the container broke off into the sauce. He pulled the plastic out & then looked like he was deciding if he should still go ahead & use the sauce. He turned around, noticed I was watching, and gave it to another chef to put to the side. Which, I'm not sure what they were going to do with it at that point but I would be concerned that there was a tiny bit of plastic that was left in it & would end up in a dish.
3) It took forever to get our check. Even after we told the waitress we would not be ordering dessert, we did not receive our check for another 15-20 mins. This was after I had to ask for it again & received a snotty look. Not cool.
While the pasta was actually really good, they need to up their standards on hygiene.
Overall, the food lacked flavor and the service was poor. Service was extremely slow and unattentive. For food, we had promising start with the crostini appetizer, but the tagliatelle al ragu and tagliatelle al tartufo nero were both very bland.
I’d *maybe* recommend for a glass of wine and an appetizer, but not for a full dinner.
Service was good. Our waiter was attentive. Food was light and good. Music a bit too loud but still fun.
Had to wait for a table more than an hr with reservation
Tasteless undone pasta
After seating had to wait for more than 15 min for a waiter
The food at Sola made up for the clubby atmosphere, which seems a bit off-putting for a pasta bar, even if it is in SoHo. While the staff was friendly, we had to wait 20 minutes beyond our reservation time, and that was only because we decided to dine at a communal table versus the bar seats we had reserved.
Food was absolutely incredible, and would dine again to try more of the menu. However, wouldn't order a cocktail, as another 20 minute wait ensued for a Negroni.
Overall, far from a "bad" dining experience, but nothing really to write home about.
Great experience. Too bad there isn’t one in LOs Anglese. Great food is a must and LA is booming with it, perhaps we’ll see it soon.
The truffle pasta is the BEST!!!
Delicious watermelon salad too!!
Always an amazing presentation. Specials are always spot on. GET ON THE MAILING LIST! They never forget a face, so frequent and get some yummy surprises! We love Sola!
We have family dinner to celebrate Independence Day 2018. The foods are incredible amazing. Must have the eggplant for the appetizer. Foods from southern Italy. Will come back to try different dishes.
Great food, best pasta in town!!!
Great food. Portions a bit small. Need to provides baby high chairs.
Fun place with incredible service, food and ambiance!
Delicious fresh food, great service. Definitely love to go back !
I've been here a few times. Great place for a dish of pasta. The bar seats are my choice where you can watch your pasta being made. One of very few places that cook pasta fresh and al dente. The portions are just right for me -- I don't feel like I'm about to fall into a coma when I leave.
The only negative is reserved bar seating. This is such a great place to drop in for a dish of pasta if you're in the neighborhood, but it's reservations only.
You can always count on Sola for excellent food and horrendous service.
Pasta is perfectly cooked and delicious but left me unfilled. Wine most, ambiance, service all a perfect 10
The food was so delicious and reasonably portioned. The wait staff was nice but somewhat slow. I’d definitely go back to try different food!
My wife and I have searched many a restaurant in many a city to recreate our time in Italy. We had all but given up until we came here. Love the atmosphere. Love the neighborhood. Love the food. This spot is not to be missed.
Perfect pasta. It was just perfect. We tried 4 options and each and every one was unbelievable. Will definitely come back for more.
Very creative pasta dishes, sauces were flavorful without overwhelming the pasta. Homemade pastas were incredible! My wife had the special of the day beet spaghetti with goat cheese which she loved. My pasta had very fresh crumbled sausage that was complimented by a perfect sauce. Everything had a unique taste. Service was very attentive . Italian Pinot was a very pleasant surprise.
EDM and sound system was a bit too loud and made conversation a challenge but the food and the open windows ambience way outweighed that. We would definitely come back.
