Let me start by saying that the food here was phenomenal, and very reasonably priced. We didn't realize it was BYOB, but not a big deal.
The service was rough, though. Although there were two servers for a very small restaurant, they seemed to have trouble covering their tables. We waited about an hour for entrees to come out after ordering, and one was incorrect. Ambience was a bit off, as well - about half of the seating is at a long counter, which seemed about 8 inches too high for the stools you are sitting on. Also, it was about 65 degrees in the restaurant.
Despite all of the above, the food was awesome, particularly the pasta. This place could really be amazing if they can just get their sh*t together. For now, I think it's still worth the trouble. Just bring your own bottle of wine and and thick sweater.
Very small but intimate and doesn’t feel too crowded. They were able to accommodate a vegan diet which was very appreciated! Definitely recommend the artichoke and chickpea starter and vegetable tempura!!
Sola lab is such a gem! The food is excellent and the staff are so friendly. This is an absolute must visit!
Literally our ONLY go to date night location. Food, ambiance and service are always amazing. There is a communal table, so there is the possibility of sitting next to someone who is totally unaware of their volume. Other than that, amazing.

We walked in for our 7:15 reservation, and were instructed that they had to move us to counter seating because a big party reserved the main table even though we requested table seating and it was open to reserve. She said that if we eat quickly, it’ll work out though since they shouldn’t be in for another 45 minutes -1 hour. So the immediate vibe was that we had to hurry up with our meal. It was also probably 50F in the restaurant and absolutely freezing. Then they dropped the bomb on us that it was a BYOB establishment which wasn’t clear at all when we made a reservation. Hostess was very awkward. It was my wife and I’s wedding anniversary and we were not comfortable at all so we had to leave. Sucks because I’m sure the food was okay.
BYOB! Which was the downside of this place. Also, the menu online is different from the one at the restaurant. It is teeny tiny! If you want quiet and chill go here. If you want a social place, don’t. Overall it was okay!
Cozy little spot with limited seating, felt like you were in a friends kitchen. BYOB. Service was great and attentive. Malfadini ragu was spectacular.
This is a tiny but bright gem in FiDi. The place wouldn’t hold more than 20 people at a time, but the food is divine. We had the artichoke starter, Cacio e pepe pasta and snow pea salad. Cacio e pepe is a simple pasta of black pepper and pecorino cheese - simple ingredients but a real test of an Italian place. Sola’s was the best I’ve ever had. Creamy, peppery, seasoned just right. The salad was also a stand out. Different and so crisp and green. Perfect offset for the cream of the pasta. Then there was dessert. LEAVE ROOM FOR DESSERT. I’m not usually into a lot of sweet desserts. We had the cannoli and the lemon cake. Both I would kill for. Best cannoli ever. Service was authentic and attentive. The waitress was a delight. Oh, and did I mention it’s BYOB?

Lovely staff but really quiet (Friday lunch) - literally the only two people inside. Opted for the set lunch and it was nice enough, unfortunately it did take a while to get through the courses so I can’t recommend for a work lunch if you need to get back to the office. I’d come back if I had 90 min for a break instead of an hour.
We went to the Beekman Street location. It is great for an intimate date night without huge bit of fanfare. Food was good at a reasonable price. BYOB if you want any alcohol.
Fresh delicious pasta. The venue is small. It’s BYOB, so you actually save money drinking your own wine(s). Definitely recommend
This place was lovely. Our waitress was a sweetheart. There was a huge party of 10 that she had to manage while also serving our party of 3 and another table so the service was slow but it was not for lack of effort. I got the squid ink pasta and it was delicious and spicy. I loved it and would get it again! The restaurant is byob which we did not know but will certainly take advantage of that next time!
My husband and I love this place! We've been twice and both times have been so impressed and happy. It's a tiny little restaurant with a sleek design, the food is delicious and the service is great, friendly and attentive. First time we came was just the two of us so we sat along the wall seating on high stools, it was very intimate and cozy. We were blown away with how great the food was and what how nice and different the experience was compared to many other Italian restaurants in NYC.
The second time we came we brought a group of 13 to sit at the big table. Everyone loved the food, it had such a fun vibe and the staff was so welcoming and happy to have us. Great experience for a bigger group, felt like we were sitting around the dinner table at a very stylish friend's home. One of the best parts - it's BYOB, so for a big group to get to indulge with wine we brought ourselves was icing on the cake (and much more cost effective). Highly recommend this place for date night or fill up the big table and celebrate with friends!

Really enjoyed lunch for two. Smart and modern setup and the food was excellent and worth the money. Good choice for casual lunch weekdays.
I saw great reviews on this place and was hoping they were legitimate and not from the workers or owners like a lot of restaurants. Turns out, the reviews didn’t do it justice. The place is a gem. It’s small, probably only about 20 seats but it’s phenomenal. All the food we had (crostino, scallops, truffle pasta, cannoli) were all on point: delicious and cooked perfectly. The wait staff were so friendly and knowledgeable and made you feel at home. I will be coming back here many times in the future.

I had a really great experience at Sola Lab with my coworkers. The ambiance was lovely, and the food was amazing! We each got different pastas and shared the burrata crostinis and meat/cheese plate. Pasta was cooked perfectly--I highly recommend and can't wait to return!
service: waitstaff friendly and accommodating, somewhat understaffed for the groups at the time but guests were patient.
ambience: very tiny room with one communal table and several 'bar' seats that face the wall or two at the window. contemporary decor. somewhat uncomfortable and felt dark / confined.
drink: currently BYOB with no corkage, which is fine.
- salad was good, but had commercially available (snyders) honey mustard pretzel bits in it as the 'crouton' component. inventive, but a weird shortcut.
- bread: no oil or butter offered.
- pastas: lobster gnocchi good, sauce a bit too creamy / heavy and overpowered delicate lobster, which was meat fragments from leg.
- squid ink vongole pasta was ok, a bit gummy but good flavor with clams and tomato.
- branzino (fish of day) was actually cooked perfectly and crisply. side of fresh veggies.
for a party of three, we spent about 115 with tip. (2 pasta, one salad, 1 main)
we are glad we tried it as a neighborhood spot, and wish them success, but not sure we would go out of our way to return.
Absolutely returning. It's a very small restaurant with limited table seating. We had a party of 6 and had to share a table with a party of 4, but it was not an issue. The food was phenomenal. The daily specials that day were 3 different risotto dishes. We ordered 2 of the 3 and they did not disappoint. The host/waitress was kind, knowledgeable of the menu, and even gave us some background on the restaurant. She was super nice and engaging. The restaurant is BYOB, so we bought a bottle of wine and she was paid attention to when a refill was needed. Overall, a wonderful experience!
