We want our guests to enjoy the window of time that they spend with us, savoring their food and wine and enjoying the company of their friends and family. We intend to remain a BYOB, knowing how important that is to many of our guests. Please be advised Sola byob saves room for walk-ins. It was our first time at Sola and we enjoyed our dishes but probably won't return. The menu is pretty limited with about 6 entrees. Last night, they were out of short ribs, duck, the tasting menu, and only had 2 servings of crab cakes left. 2 of us quickly put dibs on the crab cakes, while the other 2 had the halibut and steak. Our reservation was for 7:15 on a Saturday night.... Prime time. There are many great places to eat in the Main Line; I wouldn't chance going there again to find out that they aren't offering over half their limited menu!!

Attentive and responsive service for four dinners who selected the Chef's Tasting Menu. Creative preparation and presentation. Great variety of selections. Actually too much food, but that may have been because we were the last diners that evening.

All in all, an enjoyable dinner making for a relaxing evening with friends.

We were BYOB and the staff did an outstanding job helping to "rescue" an old Barolo with a problematic cork!

Our first visit we tried the $55 Tuesday tasting menu with 10 plates of our choice. This time we went with the $75 chef's 6 course menu, his choices. Although the food was still very good it was uninspired, basically 6 plates cut into 1/2 size portions. We go out of our way to order different menu items and share to get a better impression of what the cook has to offer. When we both got the same bland wedge of crepe/lemon curd cake we both agreed that we would not go back unless it was a Tuesday night. There were only 10-12 dinners served while we were there (we left at 8:30) so I guess he was just trying to use it up. Lesson learned.

The service was fabulous and the ambience was wonderful--small, cozy, lovely and quiet. The mushroom crepe appetizer was outstanding! The arugula salad was lightly dressed and tasty. The halibut entrée was good but not great. We ordered the NY Striploin medium rare, but it came out medium and was borderline tasteless - a real disappointment! The apple tart with caramel sauce was delicious.

All three trips to Sola BYOB have provided an outstanding dining experience. The menu is creative and the food is very satisfying. While dining here can be rather expensive, the menu offers attractive pathways to a moderately priced experience, with no loss of quality or creativity in the food. The service has always been spot on. The atmosphere is very conducive to conversation, even when all of the tables are full. This will remain our "go-to" restaurant for a special occasion, or whenever we want a terrific meal.

This is a favorite restaurant, but things seemed a little different on this visit. Food was good, but not great as it usually is. One waiter seemed to be handling all the tables with only one other to help him. The two of them were the only ones on the floor, greeting and seating guests, taking orders. I think they could have used help and we noticed the absence of the owner who is always present. Also noticed things are looking a little shabby inside; scuffed up walls, space heaters on the floor, old carpet, which is a bad choice for restaurant flooring. We usually come when it's dark, but with the time change, we saw the inside in much brighter light, and I think the space could use some refreshing. Our meals were good, but rather ordinary tasting in comparison to our past visits. Not sure why, but everything seemed a little off and different. I noticed that the website is expired too when I went to check out the menu. I really like this place and hope it was just an off night.

First time to Sola; we live in the neighborhood. What a "gem." A V-Day surprise for my wife. Had a great table by the window. The price fix 4 course was outstanding. From the fresh greens to some of the best creme bruele this place is a keeper. We WILL be back.

The entire evening was excellent. The menu tasting on Tuesday was the perfect way to try this place for the first time. The courses were just the right size for sharing and all 10 plates were served in a timely fashion.

I made our reservation through Open Table and noted that it was our 25th Wedding Anniversary. When we arrived, I mentioned again, that it was our 25th, we were seated at a nice table. Since it was a Tuesday, they only offer their price fixe menu which gives you each four choices (small plates) and one dessert. Three out of the 4 plates I chose, had the same sides even after I told the server after the second plate that I didn't like or want the pink oyster muchrooms which were served with 3 out of the 4 plates. He apologized and then the chef came out and apologized. The issue was they did NOTHING to make our night special or reduce our bill or offer us something. It was the first time when celebrating a special event at a restaurant that they did nothing to acknowledge a special occasion. For that reason alone, I cannot recommend Sola to my friends. Shame on them. I guess they are very independent and don't care.

Menu was imaginative/upscale and food was very well prepared and high quality. Service was attentive. Tables a bit too close together, but it is a small space. A bit pricey, but BYOB made it acceptable. Will go back.

We always enjoy dining at Sola byob and regret that we haven't been back there sooner. It is a wonderful byob and as such saves us a big mark-up on wine. The service was excellent and the owner, in addition to waiting on some tables, stops by to make sure everyone is enjoying themselves. I had alerted the restaurant that we were bringing a vegetarian (our daughter does consume dairy and eggs) and the cook prepared a wonderful mushroom crepe dish for her. I actually enjoyed her entree a little more than mine. In terms of first courses, hubby had Bouillabaisse and our daughter and I had a potato and leek soup. All were excellent as were the rolls. Hubby and I had the steak which I enjoyed but I would have preferred some type of starch with it instead of the fennel and what I think was cauliflower. As I mentioned, our daughter's meal was excellent and, even though I had a taste, there was a sufficient amount for her to take some home. Since we had a birthday cake at home for us, we skipped that had coffee and a very good cappuccino. All told excellent service and very tasty food. We will be back sooner this time.

Really nice dining experience! Food was impeccable and service was so friendly and welcoming. Get the warm kale salad, steak, any soup, any sorbet, hard to say exactly what to get since the menu changes seasonally!

The best BYOB on the Main Line -- we've only had FANTASTIC, gourmet, locally- and organically- sourced meals in the last 5 years we've been dining at Sola. Not only is the chef and kitchen staff incredible with different, distinct tastes and textures that meld with mouth-watering perfection in every dish, but the wait staff excels at personal touches. This last dining experience, I found the hot cup of water that I usually order already waiting for me at my favorite table -- a complete and gracious surprise. Don't go anywhere else for top tier food and a comfy yet upscale night out!

This was our first visit to SOLA byob. Four of us - two generations - celebrating a birthday.
We were interested in the Test Kitchen Tasting Menu prix fixe which is offered on Tuesdays.
This was a wonderful meal ~ fantastic experience - fun, and filled with surprise and deliciousness.
It reminded us of the 'Voila' experience at Le Bec Fin.
We felt cozy, satisfied, and well cared for.

Our anniversary dinner on a Tuesday Tasting Test Menu dinner. Excellent and attentive service - very good wine service as well. All the food was great - even when we ordered the same dish - it was prepared in different ways. For a limited tasting menu there was enough variety and dishes to chose. Crab cake and the short rib ravioli were really delicious. We will return.

We've eaten here often. The service is always outstanding, the chef is willing to work with gluten free diner. The food has been hit or miss over the years though many more hits than misses lately. We love that it's close to our house. It is pricey but worth it for special occasions

I have been to Sola many times before and was satisfied. This time it was disappointing. My foie gras was overcooked, the other guests short ribs arrived cold. The service was indifferent.

Sola has the best food on the Main Line. Brian Engler, the owner, always makes everyone feel comfortable. This is a truly fine restaurant for anytime dining as well as for special occasions.

Thursday night is my favorite night out and it was perfect at Sola - very excellent menu and very excellent, delicious food. It was two thirds full, quiet, perfect service.... I could have ordered everything on the menu.
I forgot to decant and recork my 2000 Bordeaux earlier in the day so my server (maybe the owner) decanted it for me.
Btw, we enjoyed the Duck and the Hallibut .......both perfect.
We live in Huntingdon Valley so it's a bit of a drive but actually no different than driving to cc, but a perfect byo........

SOLA has (to me0 been up and down over the years but it is definitely UP in the Fall of 2017. The menu is creative (squash and spinach baklava) as well as containing the expected regulars (short ribs.) The service is attentive and very pleasant and the guiding touch of the owner is visible in every way. Make this your go-to place for a wonderful dining experience on the Main Line.

This place is worth a trip for sure .... we went w a discerning group and all were impressed with the quality and pairing of ingredients, seamless service and calming ambiance. There are 5 apps and 5 mains, so a very curated list. Never heard of soubide, a method of preparing onions - it was paired w Black Sea bass and was one of the best fish dishes any of us have had in awhile. Creekstone Farms is the supplier for the meat dishes (short rib and strip) so you know how good that is. Scallops also quite good. Quiet on a Thursday night. Support this amazing place if you live nearby!
