Traditional Spanish
Palm Springs’ iconic restaurateur, Chad Gardner, created Sol y Sombra restaurant to offer up a true taste of the desert! Located inside The NEW Paloma Resort's historic Adobe, Chef Gardner has developed a tapas-style menu that celebrates the Coachella Valley’s agricultural roots, lacing Spanish-inspired dishes with citrus, dates, chilies and other locally-grown ingredients. Paella fans can sample several versions of the signature Spanish dish, ranging from traditional to vegetarian.

Cocktail aficionados will love the tableside Bar Cart, where the team's mixologists create custom drinks with the freshest ingredients and top-shelf spirits. Rounding out the beverage offerings is an excellent selection of Spanish and Californias wines -- plus, one of the desert's best tequila lists!

Very fun evening and Very good food! 4 first time customers. We enjoyed the Paella "surf & turf" was excellent. Ordered 5 different tapas as well, all excellent. Since we were sharing we ordered two desserts. Both excellent. Very cool vibe and setting in an historic house. Ate inside, but a little warmer day we'll eat outside. A new favorite.

We’ve had dinner here twice. The first experience was better than the second however, both were fine. I think the food our second time here was under seasoned. All the right components but bland. The paella did not have crispy rice but was delicious the first time we went but we did not want it when we returned because it did not have crispy rice. It is a wonderful restaurant with great ambiance and is well priced. Service was great both times. Just could use more seasoning . The bar is terrific. Good cocktails and wine list is great.

Esteban was a great server. Scallop Croquettes we’re beautifully presented, but bland in flavor. Chicken Empanadas were really good, had a nice little kick to them. Chorizo Stuffed Dates were good, and beautifully presented. Crab Cakes were delicious, but small and overpriced. I’d go back again to try more dishes and paella. Overalll our experience was very nice. We’ve heard great things about this little hidden gem of the desert, and were pleased with our visit.

Delightful new spot in secluded resort ….but not hard to find. Excellent service ….lovely pacing with tapas appearing quickly after ordering and then paella for 2 cooked perfectly at a good interval. Green bean tapas were outstanding. 4 tapas and paella for 2 was perfect for party of 4. Seafood paella had great flavor, appeared hot with perfectly cooked rice. Pricing felt very fair for beautifully cooked food.

Tapas and Seafood Paella were great; the croquettes, chorizo stuffed dates and the papas bravas were favorites. Service was polite and efficient, eager to please. Our party all agreed portions and prices were a great value. Decor is gorgeous, Instagram worthy! Will definitely be back!

Tapas selection is not like what you would expect and nothing like you get in Spain, prices are crazy high for small portions, $175 for 1 Paella for 6 people!!! Sangria was watered down wine and nothing like Sangria. Nice place but they need to up there game

I've been wanting a Spanish restaurant and we have one. Though, it's a bit odd sitting in the middle of a resort. The food and service.were good. A few suggestions...the rice in the paella needs to be a bit crisper, and a little less salty. The croquettes are disappointing, we had the ham and cheese and couldn't taste the ham. I'll definitely go back.

Everything was beyond perfect until we got the check. After we paid the manager came over and said we were given the wrong bill. He said we owed much more We requested an itemized check - which we not initially given. They brought another bill, which upon our review was in correct. Again a third time it was incorrect. One of the people in our group started “how hard is it to get this correct”. The manager started yelling at us and accused us of being demeaning and was quite loud. Need I. to say we were shocked as he continued to yell at us. Sad, an otherwise perfect evening was spoiled. No one ever even apologized! We will not be back.

Great food and cool ambiance. Service friendly but very slow to clear plates etc - if there’s one thing that kills a vibe it’s being served dessert while your seafood paella is still sitting in front of you! Slow on wine too, took halfway through main course to get to table. A few tweaks with service will make this place a five star experience!

A very nice Birthday celebration experience! Food was well presented . Our server presented us with a trio of crème brûlées , although there was no candles to celebrate he gracefully sang happy birthday to the birthday girl. He was very accommodating and all staff are friendly. We had originally sat down at a table that had wobbly legs and the manager and staff all accommodated us by moving us to a nicer fit table. The paella was just good, it lacked a little bit of seasoning. All in all it was a very nice experience and quite a charming place located in the La Paloma boutique Hotel.

We had a lovely evening! The location of this restaurant is beautiful, inside the Paloma Resort. You can dine inside a beautiful, old, original adobe building, or on the patio. Either choice is good. We sat outside at the bar for cocktails before dinner, and the bartender was great. We ate in the dining room, and the decor there is so pretty, with lots of colored lanterns hanging from the ceiling. The wait staff was friendly, and helpful. They specialize in paella, which we tried and it was great. I wish they offered a side salad.

Newer restaurant (our Uber driver thought we were lost!). Spanish cuisine including paella and tapas. Moderately sized wine list. The chicken in the “Surf and Turf Paella was a bit over cooked, yet flavorful. The restaurant is located in the middle of a resort hotel, with the outdoor seating next to one of the pools. Might be an issue if you’re dining next to splashing bathers. Servers were very attentive. Would eat there again.

ThIs was our first time at Sol y Sombra, saw the great reviews here on Open Table. We were not impressed at all, the reviews were too generous in my opinion. Indoor seating is very limited Drinks were very good The Paella, over priced, small portion for two people, nothing special. The service was slow, it wasn't our waitress fault, we think they were overwhelmed and not prepared. The outside seating needs to be upgraded, it is basic pool side tables, not matching with prices or the ambiance is promoted on line.

Nestled inside a cool new hotel, the Paloma. Staff was friendly and attentive. Decor is intriguingly mix of Spanish and modern accents. All the Tapas are delicious, especially the dates, empanadas and croquettes. Paella was fantastic, traditional style with the crusty bottom. Can’t wait to go back!

What a wonderful find. The decor is great. Starting with drinks poolside, our bartender, Tom, was fantastic. We also met Sean, our soon-to-be waiter who gave us a preview of our menu. Upon being seated and reviewing the menu, we decided on the tapas menu. Green beans, and the Brussels sprouts were fantastic. The dates were perfect. Corn great. The food was so good, but on top of that the staff was so wonderful. Truly a great evening. Oh, and for all we had to eat, the tab was so reasonable, unlike most post-Covid restaurants in the Coachella valley. Run, don’t walk to this place.

Absolutely amazing staff and venue. Spur of the moment reservations made on our way out of Palm Springs, and we were seated immediately. The chicken empanadas and brunch paella were out of this world! Staff was extremely courteous, and even offered to move our table as the sun shifted. Rarely have I experienced this level of service. The flamenco guitarist was incredible, and an unexpected treat! I cannot recommend Sol Y Sombra highly enough!!!

Nice food but overpriced. I ordered the Spanish Tortilla with ham. It was served with potatoes which does not make much sense as the main dish was potatoes and eggs. A side salad would complement that dish much better. That dish was $27.00 plus plus. So too expensive for a simple brunch.

Unfortunately, future visits are a NO for us. Poorly-marked hostess stand and restaurant door, which is labeled 'Emergency Exit'...drink order took 30 minutes...the paella was gummy and burnt, tasting of old, overcooked chicken...servers with trays of food wandered our small dining area (there were 4 tables, so we couldn't understand the constant confusion), asking "Is this yours?'......a chaotic, not inexpensive adventure. The interior grounds WERE impressive, with separate party rooms and individual bars, but a VERY large Saturday night private party probably also contributed to the general confusion. Hopefully, they'll iron out their front-of-house and kitchen kinks, but it won't be on my dinner tab.

Disappointed. The meal was going fine until the vegan paella. You have to order for 2 so it was $48. We were eating it and were thinking this was an expensive vegetable rice dish when we remembered there was supposed to be vegan chorizo. We asked the server and she took our dish to the kitchen and talked with the chef. She came back and said that vegan chorizo is made out of soy so it "melts" into the dish. We almost burst out laughing, wait what? So tofu should never be seen since soy melts??? If the vegan chorizo truly "melts" away, then this dish is overpriced and a flop. Kudos to OTHER restaurants that are able to cook with vegan chorizo and not have it "melt" into the dish. We felt like the chefs did not want to admit their mistake. They should have come to our table and not sent the server.

Our first time here. Cute place at a cute hotel, was told it was one of the original Pony Express stops. (1) Reservations for 4, had to wait a few min to get seated because staff was a little disorganized, a couple was in front of us they were seated hostess never came back a manager came back asked if we were helped, no, she was trying to find the reservation in the system told us to wait then finally someone came to seat us. (2) Water came out quickly the two servers were debating if who wanted to help us (we saw them talk about us) we called it out to our waiter he laughed it off. (3) Our drinks too forever to come out ice tea first we had to ask where our bar drinks were finally showed up. (4) Food came out was OK, small portions flavors Ok, we had the green beans, brussels sprouts calamari and paella. Just Ok nothing special could make the paella at home. Waiter never came back about drinks had to ask the food runners for water or ice tea. (5) After we were done table completely cleared waiter came back and said oh you are still waiting for your paella, we all looked at him...he ran to put the order in. Obvious he was not paying attention to our table, if he was he would have seen we got our food and had already finished it and all plates, glasses and silverware was cleared from our table. (6) Apparently others had issues a manager was at the table behind us and took their check and did something and another guest was complaining about something. Not sure if we would come back for the high price, small portions and lack of service. Great place to sit by the pool and looks like a very cute hotel.
