Restaurant was small but the service and food was excellent. Walking through the kitchen to use the restroom was a little weird. And the restaurant was very warm.
We had a hard time finding this place. It looked closed when we drove by it. We stopped and my wife went in to look the place over and determined that it was not anywhere near what we expected. We expected that it would be an upscale place to celebrate our anniversary. Instead it was next to a bar that was blaring loud music. Sol Grill was open to the street so that you could clearly hear the blaring music from next door . We decided to cancel our reservations. My wife called Sol Grill to cancel and received a message machine with no option to speak to a live person, so she left a message with our cancellation.
The lobster ravioli was to die for, I highly recommend it! However, I can't recommend the bruschetta. It was too thick, too soft, a little burned, with not enough balsamic. Ambience was romantic, great music. Bathroom was sketchy and you literally weave through the tiny kitchen to get there. I'd go back for the ravioli.
Great place to spend an evening Great food. Great menu.
outstanding food and service. Highly recommend. Menu had lots of great items and the cajun swordfish was unreal.
Excellent! Sol Grill had the perfect balance of surf (fresh seafood) and turf (Chicken, Beef)
My Swordfish was cooked to perfection, (blackened yet very moist and tender). My wife had the Chicken Picatta which had a very tasty caper sauce with a hint of lemon. Both my daughters loved their meals as well! One had very tangy and tasty spareribs. The other chose a bowl of Ahi Chowder. She says it was the best ever!
Wine by the glass was reasonably priced as well.
Very pleasing interior; small and cozy with a 6 seat bar. Wait staff was very attentive and knowledgeable! Perfect evening! Thank you, Sol Grill!
Showed up 10-minutes before our reservation, were told it would be 5-minutes, then we were told they overbooked and it would be over an hour. Very rude, never suggested a comp drink or anything. We left.
Always great but parking is a challenge during the summer due to the beach crowd. Best to Uber, etc. If you go be sure to order the meatballs for an appetizer!
Sol was as awesome as always. We adore the funky decor and the cozy atmosphere in contrast to the typically beachy restaurants nearby. It is definitely a little gem--as is its owner. We discovered Sol several years ago and since then haven't missed dining here at least once during each of our annual Newport beach vacations. We'll be so sad when they have to move after next year.
Great find! We were visiting our friends in NB. They took us out for our Birthdays. We will go back. They were excited to know about it now. I found it on Yelp.
We stopped here for a bite to eat before heading to a concert and LOVED it! Dinner started with them bringing out a bread basket with an oil/balsamic vinegar dipping sauce. I know that it doesn't sound like much, but they make their own bread and we couldn't stop eating it! Next we ordered the filet mignon meatballs as an appetizer and loved them so much that we ended up buying two more orders to go (pretty big deal since we had to drive 4 hours back to Las Vegas with them). We ordered the lobster ravioli and the chicken artichoke dijon chicken as our main course and they were both delicious. We had a lovely time and would highly recommend this restaurant to others.
Great service, great food, one of the best places in ever been. A meatloaf without standing
Introduced the place to someone the night we went and they wanted to know when we were coming back.
Will for sure be going back to Sol Grill! This place was beyond great from the food to the people. A+++++ all the way
We've been coming to this restaurant for years. Always consistent and delicious. A great selection of menu items for any taste. Kung Foo Shrimp appetizer is a must!
We had a reservation and it was honored promptly.
Dinner was very good. Ambience excellent. Quiet and relaxed.
Parking was difficult, although we were there on a holiday weekend and it's at the beach.
It was a cozy and vibrant place with different chimes, paintings, lamps all around. We enjoyed the red sangria. Our meals were tasty. My husband had the lobster ravioli and I had a seafood dish. They gave us a window table with a little bit of a view. The staff was warm and attentive.
Great place for dinner. We will be back. Thank you
Newport Beach 💎
We really enjoyed the Filet Meatballs for an appetizer.
We had a great dinner and fabulous desert. Sol Grill is my favorite restaurant.
Would have preferred something other than plain white rice as a side but the Mahi Mahi was amazing.
Love this place!! Great Service, Great Food. My husband and I have dinner here every year for our wedding anniversary.
Never a disappointment!!!! Their food just has so much flavor, my favorite restaurant.
Small and friendly with great food and personalized service in a lively part of town near the pier. Ahi tuna chowder is amazing and generous portion. Swordfish and Ahi Tuna entries excellent. Highly recommended.
This place is totally unimpressive from the outside. However, the food is quite good. We split three small plates and a salad. All were excellent. Service was very good as well. About 75% occupancy on a Thu at 7PM. Not a lot of seating. In this area of touristy/flashy restaurants, it would be easy to overlook. However, the smaller dining area actually made it quieter. And, if you want something more lively after eating, there's a trendy bar right next door.
We love the Sol Grill! It is a bit small and I would always make reservations but the food is great. Hubby loves the sauted mushrooms, with lots of garlic. The fish is always excellent but everything is great!!
Fabulous as always, the food was terrific, Misty is such a gracious hostess.
We always recommend this little neighborhood jewel. We'll definitely be back.
Love this place! The filet meatballs are amazing and so is the lobster ravioli and meatloaf! Misty Is the sweetest and so inviting at this tiny gem of a restaurant located by the Newport Pier. Make a reservation because they get busy!
The staff was excellent. Someone was always checking on us. In fact an employee saw me looking around and next thing you know someone is at our table asking what we need. From A-Z all was great! Manager even came over and checked on us.
