Consistently good upscale Mexican food. Took kids and grandkids. Patio dining delightful. Seated right away. Everyone loved their meal!
Poor service and mediocre food. Looking for great Mexican while in Scottsdale, try somewhere else.
We booked in advance and requested an outside table. When we arrived nearly 30 minutes early, we were told there were no outside tables at that time. We asked if we could sit at the bar and wait for one to open up. We were told none would during our time frame and were seated inside amongst quite a few crying/screaming children. At almost exactly the time we had reserved, two other parties were seated at outside tables. Our view of this restaurant: never again.
Tried the sweet potatoes and black bean tacos and can honestly saw they were some of the best tacos I have ever had! Would definitely recommend these - always a big fan of the queso as well! Love the variety this place has, always impressed with the food. The chips and salsa are very average but the apps and entrees do not disappoint!
It was a great dinner...the atmosphere was beautiful. Our waitress Katy was amazing and very knowledgeable about the food. Our whole experience was great.
Used open table app. Got there and they said no. No reservations for you. Apparently the server went done. I had to show the hostess the confirmation. She didn’t believe me. Very disturbing . They quickly got us to the table. Unfortunately it was in the middle of the bar. Not my first pic. The waitress was very slow to take our drink order. Chips and salsa came very quickly. Our drinks came way too long after ordered them, However, probably the worst chips and salsa I ever had. My son got sick after eating this. The food was horrible. We went there for my husbands birthday. So sad. We will never go back again.
Please be warned. Probably the worst food I ever had.
Pleasant and friendly atmosphere, great food, overall good experience.
Food excellent and creatively unique. Great service!
Entertaining out of town friends
This is the third time at Sol and it has exceeded expectations each time. The food is unique and prepared in a tasteful, quality manner. This particular visit stood out because of the exceptional service we received. The waiter knew the menu inside and out, read our tastes very well and made great recommendations. I will return and continue to recommend Sol to my family and friends.
I have made reservations a few days prior to the planned dinner with the 'high table top' request, because we enjoy watching the open kitchen area. The restaurant calls my mobile to confirm the reservation the day of, and I call them right back to confirm time and number of people. A few hours later, still prior to the dinner, I receive a text message from the restaurant to confirm reservation. I oblige and reply with the confirmation. We arrive to SOL Cocina 25 min late (Friday night traffic out of downtown Phoenix) only to find out that our table has been given away because we are late more than 15 minutes. At the end, we are accommodated with a regular table (not high top) right across the corridor that leads to the wash rooms. My recommendation is to give customers who confirm their reservation twice (!) on the same day a courtesy of keeping their table. I am not sure we will be back at SOL anytime soon.
Even though they couldn’t find my reservation , they still provided great service.
They have a parking garage so we parked right next door. We went on Tuesday so it was taco Tuesday plus live music. We ordered the 6 pack street tacos for $11...carnitas, chicken, and fish. They were really good. We also really like the crunchy round tortilla type chips with salsa and bean dip. The tall glass water bottle to fill our waters was very cool. The guacamole was good...gave us more chips. The coconut calamari was tender and very large slices of calamari instead of the usual rings. The carne asada quesadillas were tasty and tender.
SOL has the best food but the service is lacking. Its really sad because we have given SOL so many different chances and each time they let us down.
This latest visit was on Valentine's Day. As always, the food was terrific but the server was inattentive and seemed overwhelmed. Part of the problem is they want to get you in and out in as little time as possible.
So wish they would put customer service as a priority.
Awesome!! Servers made fabulous suggestions.
Meeting a friend’s daughter for the first time with her new husband. Our waiter was up on the menu- Answered our menu questions inaccurately and was unaware of some of the options available. He also seem rushed and definitely was not attentive.
Restaurant did not have my reservation, even though it was confirmed by OpenTable.
Great chips, guacamole, tacos and margaritas in a lively environment!
Out of all of Phoenix area, we find this the best south of the border restaurant in the valley. A) Easy to get to and park w/o having to walk a half a mile away. B) Exceptional Service C) A lot quieter than most on the Scottsdale strip so you can actually hear what your dinner partner is saying D) Priced right for what you receive and: E) Creative Menu without pretension.
Always enjoy dining at Sol. Only concern on this trip was the Octopus was a little chewy. One of our guests did not feel the chicken in her salad was cooked through (it was a little more pink than normal). Server removed it from bill but shared that was how the chef prepares chicken there. Regardless, will go back.
So overpriced ... ridiculous
Two couples dined. Very disappointed with our seating. We were seated in a room off the bar next to a family and their friends celebrating a child’s birthday. Lots of noise and kids running around. Our server was great. Helped us with menu selections. Food was great. Recommend the avacada app, tacos and burritos. Service was efficient. Will return if we can book a table in the main room.
I am from out of town and not familiar with the area
Newer busy part of Scottsdale. Upscale shopping area.
Parking tough
I had a reservation and was seated right away.
The food was good and the service was good.
I liked it more than I thought. I usually prefer old school to hip and trendy
Our server was nice but we had a group of 9. When I requested the reservation specifically that our VP was attending and it just didn’t go as smooth as I wanted. Our table wasn’t set or ready when we arrived and the host, a male, needs some training on making ur guests feel welcomed vs just leaving us hanging. Another party came in when we were waiting and no one welcomed them. It was awkward. Too long to order and too long to get our bill. Paying attention a lil more would go a long way. If you want to discuss more please call me.
We have eaten here MANY times so, obviously, we have enjoyed it. Not so much this past Monday night. Nothing was good: the food, the service, nothing. It took our server forever to acknowledge us in a dining room with only 3 tables occupied. It never improved from there. Our food was as boring as any mass produced Mexican can be. My "chicken" burrito had less than 2 ounces of chicken in it and was simply all black beans. My wife's shrimp was overcooked. Given the absence of our server it seemed to make more sense to just suck it up and eat and leave which is what we all did. I'm not saying that I won't ever be back but I will now think twice the next time that someone suggests SOL.
This was our second visit, and I didn't write a review for the first, as I occasionally do if my first reaction is 'meh?, opting to give them another chance. I can now confirm that 'meh' is about the best I can give this place. This is mediocre chain-level food and service. My fish was somewhat overcooked and very greasy. The sides were served lukewarm. My wife 's food is best described as mediocre. The server was there except when needed. The wine was good so not all was lost. Save your money and go somewhere else.
Food was good. Server was nice but after bringing our drinks, didn’t come back to take our food order for a long time. Even though we had reservations for 4, we were sat a very small table. It was more like a bar high top instead of one of their dining tables. With all the glassware and dishes it was too crowded. Other tables were empty, I should have asked to move
We dine at SOL most every time we make it into the North Scottsdale area. We absolutely love the guacamole and street tacos. The drinks came to the table a little late, about 15 min after we ordered, but we didn't have any other plans so we were fine. We have recommended SOL to a great deal of our friends and they enjoy it too!
Great for a group. The food exceeded my expectations and our service was excellent, very attentive.
Excited to come to SOL for my birthday, unfortunately the service was incredibly slow and we had to go ask the bartender for the majority of things we needed, we also had to clear our own plates to another unoccupied table because our server was no where to be found. To make matters worse when we went to leave another server near the front of the restaurant rudely complained to us as we walked passed her that “there is another exist for a reason!”. Nothing like a little harassment for using the front door to top off of the evening....
Great dinner for birthday party. We haven't been to it since it was new so it was nice to revisit and find out how great it is.
Way too cold and windy to have us sit outside..
it was fine, nothing special and even after providing a request through Open Table and calling the restaurant directly to request birthday dessert, they messed it up by bringing the wrong dessert and just putting it on the table with no candle or anything. Not a very special experience.
skip happy hour the menu is very limited and the food just didn't taste good.
Took grandchildren out. Best quesadillas. Guacamole a little bland. Overall positive
Tacos were great but very expensive for the size. Very weak pour for an 11 dollar margarita. May return but will not order a drink
Overpriced... food was terrible. As in every dish we ordered with the exception of the coconut calamari appetizer, and we tried a lot of dishes as there were 8 of us. Food wasn't warm and portions were minuscule. Margaritas were watery. Our waiter was okay but a staff member on break sat right next to us with her feet up on the chairs on her phone our entire meal. Place is pretty but that is about it. Will never go back.
Loved the specialty tacos!
Birthday dinner. Great food and I’ve the decor.
Great service. Good house margaritas on happy hour. Tasty salsa and black bean dip. On to entrees - grilled vegetable burrito was one of the best I've had and the quinoa salad is a refreshing side. The goat cheese enchiladas and shrimp rellenos were also well enjoyed.
Service was funny and attentive. Patio seating was pleasant.
