SOL Cocina Ratings and Reviews
We have eaten here MANY times so, obviously, we have enjoyed it. Not so much this past Monday night. Nothing was good: the food, the service, nothing. It took our server forever to acknowledge us in a dining room with only 3 tables occupied. It never improved from there. Our food was as boring as any mass produced Mexican can be. My "chicken" burrito had less than 2 ounces of chicken in it and was simply all black beans. My wife's shrimp was overcooked. Given the absence of our server it seemed to make more sense to just suck it up and eat and leave which is what we all did. I'm not saying that I won't ever be back but I will now think twice the next time that someone suggests SOL.
This was our second visit, and I didn't write a review for the first, as I occasionally do if my first reaction is 'meh?, opting to give them another chance. I can now confirm that 'meh' is about the best I can give this place. This is mediocre chain-level food and service. My fish was somewhat overcooked and very greasy. The sides were served lukewarm. My wife 's food is best described as mediocre. The server was there except when needed. The wine was good so not all was lost. Save your money and go somewhere else.
Food was good. Server was nice but after bringing our drinks, didn’t come back to take our food order for a long time. Even though we had reservations for 4, we were sat a very small table. It was more like a bar high top instead of one of their dining tables. With all the glassware and dishes it was too crowded. Other tables were empty, I should have asked to move
We dine at SOL most every time we make it into the North Scottsdale area. We absolutely love the guacamole and street tacos. The drinks came to the table a little late, about 15 min after we ordered, but we didn't have any other plans so we were fine. We have recommended SOL to a great deal of our friends and they enjoy it too!
Excited to come to SOL for my birthday, unfortunately the service was incredibly slow and we had to go ask the bartender for the majority of things we needed, we also had to clear our own plates to another unoccupied table because our server was no where to be found. To make matters worse when we went to leave another server near the front of the restaurant rudely complained to us as we walked passed her that “there is another exist for a reason!”. Nothing like a little harassment for using the front door to top off of the evening....
it was fine, nothing special and even after providing a request through Open Table and calling the restaurant directly to request birthday dessert, they messed it up by bringing the wrong dessert and just putting it on the table with no candle or anything. Not a very special experience.
Overpriced... food was terrible. As in every dish we ordered with the exception of the coconut calamari appetizer, and we tried a lot of dishes as there were 8 of us. Food wasn't warm and portions were minuscule. Margaritas were watery. Our waiter was okay but a staff member on break sat right next to us with her feet up on the chairs on her phone our entire meal. Place is pretty but that is about it. Will never go back.
Great service. Good house margaritas on happy hour. Tasty salsa and black bean dip. On to entrees - grilled vegetable burrito was one of the best I've had and the quinoa salad is a refreshing side. The goat cheese enchiladas and shrimp rellenos were also well enjoyed.
Service was funny and attentive. Patio seating was pleasant.
One of our favorite restaurants anywhere is Sol Cocina in Newport CA. So we expected a similarly outstanding experience at the one in Scottsdale AZ. While this restaurant is pretty good, it doesn’t quite match the quality of its sister in California. The noise level is quite energetic, which makes conversation somewhat challenging. The cocktails aren’t nearly as good as those at the Newport location, but the overall service is better here.
The biggest issue for us is that the food here is quite bland, when compared to the Newport location. This might be simply a case of catering to local tastes, but was disappointing for us.
Overall, while this is a fun spot, there are superior choices in the Phoenix area.
I ordered a gluten free taco. All it has was one bite of steak and two pieces of shrimp for $12.50. The waiter was rude, unfriendly, never around. We were there to celebrate my Mom's 70th birthday. The waiter's attitude ruined the vide and our entire evening and then the food was very disappointing by all at the table. I will NEVER return.
I like this place. Not a huge fan of the tostada chips (would prefer just a really good tortilla chip) but the Guacamole Sol was awesome no matter what the vehicle. Was surprised by the tastiness of my taco- thought I was getting it with beans and rice (per the menu and my ticket) but just got black beans. Still, those were tasty. A bit noisy but fun atmosphere. And awesomely tart Skinny Margarita.
We were in town from Chicago. Our waiter, Ben, was excellent and made wonderful meal suggestions. We started with the traditional guacamole and margaritas (watch out the margarita will sneak up on you). Our food came in a timely manner, but not too quickly, like some Mexican restaurants. I had the viper taco which was delicious and spicy.
Excellent food! I've been to Sol 5 times and never had anything less than outstanding food. Because Sol is so popular and always full, and the bar and and dining tables are in the same room, Sol is not a place for quiet conversations. You do have to speak up to be heard! Service is good, but it's can be hard to find a waiter once your food is served. Reservations are a must.
