Sol Azteca Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Good service, variety in the app and entree offerings. The menu heads away from chain restaurants, toward fine dining. Red sangria=flavorful and satisfying. The premium margs use fresh lime juice, others use sour mix (why bother?). The host, runner and waiter were all friendly, knowledgable and attentive. Cozy atmosphere. More tables than bar stools.
We've been coming here for nearly 40 years. It's as good as ever. They've added vegetarian dishes - otherwise the menu is nearly identical. We moved away a long time ago but every time we are in Boston we try to have dinner at Sol Azteca at least once. The sangria is delicious.
This is my all time favorite restaurant. I've been going there for 40+ years. That being said I was disappointed for the first time! The restaurant was very crowded and most who made reservations needed to wait. Once seated, we got our drinks before our chips & salsa. The chips were thicker and not salted. They were not as good as what they used to serve. The salsa was a bit different too. The old recipes was perfection! Our meals came out before we finished the appetizer. The meals were delicious as usual and the sangria is the unmatched.
I will return, but I hope they go back to the original chips & salsa and create more of a dining experience.
Marquette needs a good Mexican place and Sol is trying to fill the gap but has a way to go. I was never checked in so had to claim my Open Table points via a follow-up. Laminated, spiral bound menus are dog-eared and food descriptions are printed in color over pictures making them a bit tough to read. No guacamole was available the night we visited since "no good avocados were available." Food tasted fine but the wow factor was not there.
The staff was actually running - rushing - all over / it was very uncomfortable - made us anxious watching & experiencing the constant running .. either they needed more help or suggest they be more discreet and less hurried .. it made for an unpleasant dining experience - otherwise the food is excellent - but we lost our appetite with anxiousness from the rushing past & hurrying around - itvwas very unnerving and definitely not relaxing
Sol Azteca is, at best, a modest version of a Mexican restaurant. Food is slightly above mediocre--seemingly assembled with little care and then slopped onto a plate and covered with goopy sauce. There are enough better options for Mexican food to avoid SA. On the plus side, the prices are reasonable and service is good.
Have been coming to the restaurant for 25+ years. It is a comfortable setting, just outside of Kenmore square in Boston. Lots of college students in the area, but if want to find parking, the best time to visit this restaurant is late May till September or Christmas time till mid-January when the students are not there and parking is more available. This is my favorite Mexican restaurant and when they bring the salsa and chips it is the best. The first you thing you notice is that the salsa bowl is wide and deep enough to dip your chips without making a mess on the table. The food is always consistently good and the service is always pleasant.
The Margaritas were excellent, and our camarones (shrimp) al cilantro were nicely presented and very tasty. We inhaled the Nachos Grandes. This restaurant has been serving good food for many many years and have got it down. The only negative was there was a large and noisy party seated across from us. The noise level was high until they left. We all agreed the food and drinks were excellent.
