We made reservations for a group of 10. Everything was set up and ready when we got there a few minutes early. The restaurant wasn’t overly crowded even though it was a Saturday night. The staff was very friendly and the food was delicious. There were not as many options as other Mexican restaurants but all the options they did have sounded good. They also had a variety of margaritas to choose from. Overall, it was a great experience and I will likely go back in the future!
Two colleagues and I had dinner at Sol Azteca while in Boston for a conference. We all appreciate authentic Mexican food, and this was a great meal. I also had a wonderful cocktail. Quiet, relaxed, but still special.
Sol Aztec is still the BEST mexican restaurant in MA! I've been a patron since 1977! The wait staff is familiar to me. The salsa is the best ever. It's flavorful, chunky and they will give you more! The chips seem homemade. The sangria is the best anywhere. The menu is relatively standard as far as mexican restaurants go, but the flavor is the best! Their Veracruz sauce is so delicious! I think we've tried every dish on the menu - you can't go wrong. Just order what you're in the mood for!!! You'll be going back, so you can try others when you return.
The best dessert ever is the bananas in caramel sauce.
This was not my first time to Sol Azteca but it was the first time I was sorely disappointed. The food was not good; the chips tasted from a bag, the cheese pre-shredded, the chicken in my enchilada was overcooked and the enchiladas were very dry.
We asked for fresh chips and were promptly brought more of the same (poor) quality. They make a great spicy margarita however the first one I was served was room temperature which affected its taste. But I was made a second one that was more up to par, although still not what I'm used to getting when I come to Sol Azteca.
I think I will only return for patio seating in the summer and a spicy marg; I'm over the food.
A little spicy for my likings
Although we were concerned about parking we found a spot on the street practically right in front of the restaurant. Although we were an hour early for our reservation (5:30 vs 6:30) we were seated right away. The service was excellent, our drinks and food came quickly and the food was hot.
After 6:00 pm the room filled quickly and the conversation level increased although not unacceptably. The area where we sat was small and the tables were relatively close but still comfortable.
The staff was friendly and very helpful throughout our stay. The food was much better than the Tex-Mex served up at most Mexican restaurants.
Ours was a very positive experience.
Amazing food and great service! We had a great time for our friend's birthday!
Sol Azteca exceeded every expectation. Delicious food, attentive service and quite possibly the best margaritas in Boston.
My family of six all enjoyed our meals. We enjoyed nachos, enchiladas rojo and verde, tacos and chilquiles. Everything was delicious, served promptly and seemed authentic. Server was friendly and attentive.
Had a great time at Sol Azteca! The staff are very friendly and the food was perfect! Definitely want to go back.
Terrific dinner at Sol Azteca as always. The everything ordered was great, salsa and sangria are must-haves! Ambiance is warm and comfortable. Service is outstanding.
Thank you Sol Azteca for making my best friend's going away party so special! Incredibly thankful to an accommodating staff and absolutely delish food. Such reasonable prices and really excellent portion sizes.
Was perfect for a group of 8 people (plus a toddler) meeting after a conference at Haynes Convention center.
I was in need of comfort food after a tough week. Coming from SoCal, Mexican food was the only thing that was going to fit the bill. I wanted something good, authentic and without all of the bells and whistles (and pricey-ness) of some of the places in the Seaport. Sol Azteca was perfect. We were seated in a side room, which was quiet; the service was prompt; the food was delicious. Salsa and guacamole were great. We were very happy and I seriously cannot wait to return.
Sol Azteca is a fine restaurant for those who want to incorporate familiar and innovative elements into fine Mexican cuisine. The food is superb, the service is genial, and the venue intimate and pleasant. Try something with the signature mole.
This place never disappoints. Thank you for a lovely dinner!
Steak and cactus was terrific. Cactus was cooked yet crisp, not mushy as I've had other places.
Good service, variety in the app and entree offerings. The menu heads away from chain restaurants, toward fine dining. Red sangria=flavorful and satisfying. The premium margs use fresh lime juice, others use sour mix (why bother?). The host, runner and waiter were all friendly, knowledgable and attentive. Cozy atmosphere. More tables than bar stools.
The food and drinks are delicious! The staff is extremely friendly and attentive. The location is very close to all the hot spots in Fenway.
I have lived in Brookline for 25 years and their food has not improved at all.
My friend wanted to go so I went because of her against my will....and was disappointed.
Our server was wonderful though.
The waitstaff never actually brought our bill for us after we requested it. So we had to go in and find a way to pay because we had an event after dinner.
Sol Azteca isn't mind blowing Mexican food. However, it's an easy neighborhood place to stop in at for a margarita and Mole Poblano Enchiladas. It may not be a life altering dining experience, but it's easy and casual.
We've been coming here for nearly 40 years. It's as good as ever. They've added vegetarian dishes - otherwise the menu is nearly identical. We moved away a long time ago but every time we are in Boston we try to have dinner at Sol Azteca at least once. The sangria is delicious.
This is my all time favorite restaurant. I've been going there for 40+ years. That being said I was disappointed for the first time! The restaurant was very crowded and most who made reservations needed to wait. Once seated, we got our drinks before our chips & salsa. The chips were thicker and not salted. They were not as good as what they used to serve. The salsa was a bit different too. The old recipes was perfection! Our meals came out before we finished the appetizer. The meals were delicious as usual and the sangria is the unmatched.
I will return, but I hope they go back to the original chips & salsa and create more of a dining experience.
Sol Azteca is good Mexican food and I have been coming here for over 20 years. I would recommend it!
Marquette needs a good Mexican place and Sol is trying to fill the gap but has a way to go. I was never checked in so had to claim my Open Table points via a follow-up. Laminated, spiral bound menus are dog-eared and food descriptions are printed in color over pictures making them a bit tough to read. No guacamole was available the night we visited since "no good avocados were available." Food tasted fine but the wow factor was not there.
The staff was actually running - rushing - all over / it was very uncomfortable - made us anxious watching & experiencing the constant running .. either they needed more help or suggest they be more discreet and less hurried .. it made for an unpleasant dining experience - otherwise the food is excellent - but we lost our appetite with anxiousness from the rushing past & hurrying around - itvwas very unnerving and definitely not relaxing
Always a great time! Luis and his team always provide a friendly, welcoming feeling with amazing food! The drinks are the strongest in town! Great for big groups as well
Authentic Mexican - the mole poblano enchiladas are excellent. Great margarita menu.
Sol Azteca is, at best, a modest version of a Mexican restaurant. Food is slightly above mediocre--seemingly assembled with little care and then slopped onto a plate and covered with goopy sauce. There are enough better options for Mexican food to avoid SA. On the plus side, the prices are reasonable and service is good.
It was okay
I have been eating here since the 70's. Usually combine with a trip to Fenway Park, so twice yearly I make it a point to eat at this restaurant. Well worth the time and the energy to commute from the suburbs to eat here.
Awesome Mexican food in the BU area. Will absolutely be back next time I visit.
They did not acknowledge my son's birthday and I included that in the comments section of the reservation
Have been coming to the restaurant for 25+ years. It is a comfortable setting, just outside of Kenmore square in Boston. Lots of college students in the area, but if want to find parking, the best time to visit this restaurant is late May till September or Christmas time till mid-January when the students are not there and parking is more available. This is my favorite Mexican restaurant and when they bring the salsa and chips it is the best. The first you thing you notice is that the salsa bowl is wide and deep enough to dip your chips without making a mess on the table. The food is always consistently good and the service is always pleasant.
This was good authentic (at least compared to meals during my one visit to mexico) but not as yummy or original as Lolita and overpriced for what you get. But the location is nice and the salsa is delicious.
As expected good food
Spotty service. Margarita was overrated and very slow to arrive
Consistently good Mexican food. Nice service, well prepared dishes and a delicious sangria. Well done.
