Sojourn Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Perfect location for a casual dinner with friends. Had 7 pm reservations and we were seated immediately as it was not busy. Has a variety of seating option, in the bar area with window seats, dining room has cozy seating and high top bar style tables. Lighting was perfect, not too dark and not bright. Cocktails were good but not amazing. Food was very good and nicely presented. Appetizer portions were good but I found the main courses were smaller if we would have eaten individually. We shared everything and enjoyed it all, particularly the duck comfit spring rolls, the brussel sprouts and the branzino on a bed of spinach with a hint of mint. The tiramisu with a hint of Bailey's was mouth watering. Our waitress was adorable, efficient and very accommodating. Overall a very enjoyable evening and dinner and would definitely go again. Oh and apparently they have live music on Mon and Tues nights beginning at 10 but we left before they started.
We went here for the Thanksgiving special with a reservation (took around 15min to get our table ready), unfortunately, the turkey dinner was all out by the time we came in. We ordered the steak with the scallion fried rice instead, and it was delicious! The flourless chocolate cake was also good and came in hot, but very small for the price ($10). Service took a lot longer but it was Thanksgiving, so its understandable. The hostess was very nice and attentive, even when we were at the back of the restaurant we always waved and she came in promptly (which she didn't have to do). However, the waiters/waitresses took very long to get to us most of the time, sometimes we had to track them down. With so many people, the restaurant was very cramped, we could barely get to our table or go in to our seat, we had to move the table around to be able to fit (not sure if they added more tables for Thanksgiving). There were always people also asking me to push in my chair to get by, which gets a little bothersome when you're trying to eat and enjoy your meal. The bathrooms were very clean ( a little dark though) and the restaurant was as well.
Really enjoyed our dinner here on a recent Saturday evening. The place gets extremely crowded so definitely make a reservation. Good cocktails, fun and inventive tapas in a really nice (if not extremely dark) environment. It was a lot of fun and would work very well for a date or a get-together.
We selected this restaurant based on location and positive online reviews. Our friends and ourselves go out in New York a lot, and we were allvery impressed with Sojourn.
First, the restaurant has a warm, inviting look and a pleasant ambiance. The service was excellent. But most of all, the food was delicious. The five of us shared several varied offerings and each one was delicious. We would go back even if we did not have other reasons to be on the Upper East Side.
The restaurant was exactly what my friends and I were looking for: delicious food in an intimate setting. We shared a lot of plates and each course was served so that we had time in-between each one. We all enjoyed the meal and the restaurant very much - I would definitely go back.
Overall, nice experience. The food and cocktails were tasty. The service was rather slow although we did arrive just after 8pm on a Friday. We were seated near the bar which I believe contributed to the slowness of service as we were barricaded by people standing around the bar. If we had sat in the lively dinner area, it may have been a different experience. Would still recommend for a fun, lively scene, but would definitely encourage others to sit in the dining area over the bar if they want good service.
We went on a Saturday night. Ordered 4 dishes, two of which were not worth eating...scallops (chewy, gritty and poorly seasoned) and spinach salad (way to much dressing). The cheese course was OK, though the cheese was too cold when it arrived. The skirt steak was edible but nothing special. Not sure what all the rave reviews are about but we would definitely not go back.
Such a satisfying find! Made a reservation for an early dinner (6:30) on Saturday night but didn’t need it - the place was practically empty at the time so this is a good place to go if you want to eat early and not wait. Our server and the kitchen were extremely accommodating for us (I’m a vegetarian and he’s allergic to all nuts - usually a rough combo in new restaurants!) and everything tasted wonderful. We split the Brussels sprouts, kale salad without candied pecans for me, and chicken for him with drinks. Will definitely be back again next time we’re in town!
They sat us an hour after our reservation, it took an hour to get our food, and the food was too salty and room temperature. Although, the hostess and our server were friendly and understanding of our frustration. This was no way to spend a special occasion. It took us complaining multiple times before any redress was made by management.
Note to management: don't seat a twelve-top and a six-top within the same time frame if you don't have the capacity to accommodate that. Not complicated.
Absolutely every single bite was DELICIOUS and I'm a huge foodie so that is saying something. This has become my new favorite neighborhood restaurant in one meal. Very romantic, dark candlelight and quiet corners, with a more lively bar scene as well. Decent wine list. Service was perfect, our waiter never let our glasses empty or let empty plates sit. The only thing I could find to say negative, if I had to look for a negative, would be that my date's entree arrived before my own, by about a minute. We had a ten pm reservation and I always assume when dining a little later that something will fall off, either quality of food or service, but I found none of that. Highly recommend.
Poor choice for brunch unless you're in a large noisy group in search of a cheap boozy brunch. Very slow service and the food so-so. The alleged "chorizo" hash was nothing more than home fries with a few herbs. Won't ever rerun and absolutely not recommended.
Great find!!! Girls night out and very happy at the high tops in the back. The ceviche tacos were awesome- would return just for those, but everything was good and shareable. Creative but not too gussied up. Everything hit the mark and at a decent price. Would highly recommend.
Cool ambiance will strike you when you walk through the door. Dim lights, chic dining room. We ordered 6 plates for 4 women and it was plenty. We all enjoyed the gnocchi, figs with prosciutto, skirt steak, ravioli and chicken satay & lamb chops. Great for couples, friends and foodies.
