Service was a bit slow, but the food was delicious and my party enjoyed the ambience. Location of the restaurant was awesome. Definitely will return.
The food was absolutely fantastic. We have nothing but positive words for the taste and appearance of the dishes we ordered. The portions were also quite generous, so zero complaints on that as well. The service we received was good and the atmosphere was great. Keep up the great work. We're so glad to have a restaurant like Socu here in Mobile.
This restaurant is truly southern soul food! It took me back to eating dinner at my grandmothers house! Everything we had was absolutely amazing! Service was just as good!
It took 30 minutes and a few late tea refills to get our salads and over an hour to get our food. This was terrible because we had to leave to pick up kids before the food came out… somehow they went and found our food and put it in a togo bag once we told them we had to leave.
A little pricey but what’s not. The food was great - those biscuits. ❤️ A little loud and our waitress was not totally attentive. All in all, we did enjoy and maybe try another day that’s not the Sunday Buffet.
Enjoyed Sunday Brunch which offered a generous selection of southern cooking with large plates to hold it all at a reasonable price. We were pleasantly surprised as the website didn’t mention Sunday Brunch- think they should add that to the website menus, to highlight their awesome buffet! Along with a pitcher of mimosa, we were quite pleased!
Good service, but food was just OK. The cost for our meals was just too expensive for what we received. I had Pork Chops, my wife had Shrimp & Grits…. With my wife’s plate there was too much grits and just a few overcooked shrimp. My pork chops were grisly and fatty. Disappointed….
This is the second time we have had a terrible experience at Socu. It’s been two years (first time was pre-pandemic) so we thought we would give it another chance. Both times we were seated in the corner upstairs which is fine, but apparently serves forget about you in that spot. Our reservations were at 7:15, the hostess sat us immediately, at 8:00 we still had not received our drinks or even placed our order. The waitress was nice but did not seem to care if things were going well for us or not. When we joked about going downstairs to help make the drinks because it was taking so long she said the bartender had just quit today…
It’s such a shame because the food here has Ben pretty good but the service is so bad you can’t even enjoy it. Will not be giving this another try. Unfortunately two strikes and you’re out for us.
We enjoyed our meals and service was good. Antonio was our server. It was a girl's night out.
Food was delicious (but oysters were small & some shells were void of oysters), but service was lacking. We noted in 2 places on the reservation that we were celebrating a birthday & told the person who seated us the same. When our waitress asked if we wanted the checks. I reminded her of the birthday & asked if she had been told. She said she hadn't & they don't do anything for birthdays. Someone should have mentioned this to me the other times I noted it. I then ordered a slice of cheesecake for the celebrant & said to put it on my check (separate checks.) After more than 20 minutes, I asked another waitress to please find my waitress to get the cheesecake. I also asked for 6 forks. Finally we received the cheesecake. Although I pointed out the celebrant 2X, it was brought to the wrong person with 1 fork. We also asked for 6 plates. She brought dirty plates & didn't clear the table of all of our dinner. I cleared the table & my friend retrieved 6 forks & plates from other tables. Several of these were dirty also. The menus are retrieved via smartphone. I asked the waitress for a wifi password. I don't have unlimited data & my husband's phone wasn't working on data. She didn't know it and didn't offer to get it. If the restaurant requires me to use a cell phone to order, they should provide wifi. Only forks were set on the table. I asked for knives. She brought one for me only. I spoke to the manager while holding my unpaid check (which took a while to get.) She was very nice, but blamed some of the problems on the computer being down for 2 hours. The only thing that should have been delayed at all was the check. She even said she saw my cheesecake sitting there & confirmed they don't offer birthday desserts because they have a limited dessert menu. In the Midwest, restaurants usually comp birthday desserts or at least provide them. She said she would take care of me they next time I came in. My check was still in my hand. She should have compensated me right then.
Waitress was amazing. Food was decent. Dishes were dirty and cups had chunks floating in them. Not worth a $30 per person charge.
We had reservations and was seated immediately upon our arrival. The service was awesome and the food was delicious! Loved the music and the ambience. It was perfect for our anniversary. Definitely will be returning soon.
I ordered the braised oxtails, seafood dressing and it was good. The overall was pretty good. The wait time for the food to be served could have been better. Nice atmosphere, The restaurant just need more space.
This food literally made my dance when I took the first bite! It was all just so so very good! Mardi Gras pasta was awesome, catfish was crazy good, mac and cheese, turnip greens were both all stars but….. the real Im going back and have to order this every time though… seafood dressing!!?!!! Cant even explain how freaking good it was! It was a busy Friday night and the servers were wonderful. We had a couple that seemed to tag tram our table but they both had wonderful recommendations and were so pleasant! Cant wait to go back! Fried Chicken and the OxTail are next on my list ;)
The food was outstanding! Just feel as the appetizers were a little pricey. But overall a good experience! My fiancée and I went for our anniversary.
Good food good environment staff was friendly yet not intrusive.
Yes good food and servers made us feel very welcomed
Great restaurant and location. We would definitely come back.
My family and some friends were celebrating my son’s birthday and decided to choose this restaurant. Were very pleased with everything at this restaurant. The food and cocktails were outstanding. Service was awesome. It was a wonderful experience. I would highly recommend.
Tried Socu for the first time… and probably the last. Was very excited based on reviews and word of mouth, but the food did not live up to expectations. Service was slow and our waitress had to bring over the bartender to open a screw top bottle of Pinot Noir. The Shrimp and Grits was overly sauced and had very few shrimp and sausage in it. My friends fried pork chop was okay, but nothing to write home about. Ambiance was nice but recommend jazzing up the bathroom. It was very plain with a nice sink but stark.
Terrible service. Waitress was inattentive. Food was ok.
Exceptional southern food. Generous portions and a good and specialty cocktail & wine list. Upstairs seating is quieter than main floor.
The food was outstanding! Standouts include the pork chops and seafood dressing. The side of cabbage was incredible - I had no idea cabbage could be so good!
My food was excellent. Fresh and hot. The Socu oysters were fantastic. Can’t wait to eat there again. Our server, Monica was spot on 🙌
Unbelievably good food and atmosphere. Wouldn't change a thing!
I really enjoyed coming to Socu, it was definitely a whole vibe for myself and my party !!! The only thing that was noticed was the wait time to get food but our server and conversation made me not even realize but I was just truly enjoying myself !!! I’ll definitely be going back
Good for the most part. Everything came out Lukewarm including the oysters, which weren’t the best at all. I did order the fried lobster deviled eggs which was excellent!
Food was good but overpriced. Bathrooms needed to be cleaned. Was decent but shouldn’t be listed as “fine” dining.
Made a reservation online, they did not have us in their system when we got there, and so could not seat us. What is the point of making a reservation if it doesn't work? Now on a busy night we have no where to eat, so upset
Food was just ok. Kitchen service was very slow. Perhaps due to staffing issues. Waitress was friendly and attentive and ambience is very nice
Portions of food were a bit smaller than expected, especially for southern food, and the kitchen was pretty slow in getting things out, but the taste of everything was perfect. We will still be back!
We had a nice table outside on the upstairs terrace & our server, Antonio, was very attentive. Other than that, we were underwhelmed by the quality of drink & food.
We were served a Sparking Rose which tasted of mildew. Antonio was quick to replace with a wine of our choice.
The Oysters Rockefeller & the Grilled oysters were room temp and tasted like they had been prepared hours or, possibly days prior. They were covered in thick, cold, chewy cheese, so we could barely taste the oysters. They advertised the oysters coming with grilled bread. The bread arrived cold & soggy.
Thankfully, we enjoyed our outdoor ambiance. That said, will not return. M
The brunch buffet was delicious! I don't even usually enjoy buffets either. I will be back for dinner soon :)
Loveeee this spot!! Food was delicious, ambiance was romantic, music was great, just lovely overall!
Seated on time for my reservation at 7:45
Ordered 2 glasses of wine, a beer and a drink. 15 minutes a beer and drink showed, 35 minutes I tracked down waitress looking for wine, she told me they were washing the glasses.
45 minutes… no apps no wine, no apologies, WE LEFT..
When we arrived we waited at the host's station for several minutes and no one even acknowledged us. A simple, "Someone will be with you shortly", would have been suffice. Everything else was fantastic! Great quality dishes and so delicious!
The food was amazing, the portions were a good size. The seafood dressing…there are no words for how good it was. I can’t say enough good things about food. The staff was friendly and accommodating.
Food is always great. Incredibly friendly staff.
Great service and great food!
Drinks and food were delicious! Loved the shrimp and grits!
