Soco Ratings and Reviews
Fun atmosphere- cool vibe- great southern comfort food- best Mac and cheese!
Variety of cocktails and good beers on tap.
Make a reservation for quick seating.
Need to better control temp, sound and lighting- keep changing over the course of time we were there.
Great neighborhood location- will return!
There was no wait when we arrived for our 1pm reservation, which was great. The waiter was awesome. The chicken and waffles was not what i expected; the chicken was undercooked (very pink inside), but the catfish was very fresh and good. The Creole seafood gumbo, macaroni and cheese and collard greens were amazing. I will definitely revisit and recommend Soca to friends and family.
Nice, friendly atmosphere service was a bit slow but it was packed. My red velvet waffle was no bueno. The chicken, lobster and macaroni my sisters had was great! Clean. Waitress was helpful, music could have been louder. Cool, chic, and love the Brooklyn mural!
I went to Soco on 10/28/2017 for My Birthday. My first impression was that the atmosphere was nice and cozy (quiet) for a Saturday night. I liked it1 the only down side was the service. Unfortunately our server was not very attentive to us ( a table of three women). After a group of handsome men sat next to us we became an after thought. At first I thought well she is just trying her best to keep up now a total of 7 people. But when the Men said, "We were seated after you but we received our food and drinks before you!" I noticed that I was over exaggerating. So much so that I told her that it was my Birthday and I wanted to see the dessert menu after our meals. Once we finish eating she brought the check to us! My thoughts, "I guess they don't have dessert". Overall my experience was great the food was tasty and fresh. Next time I wont sit next to visually distracting guess......lol
The food there is amazing! I get the sausage and grits and cornbread. They have a sweet butter sauce on top. The service is VERY slow (we waited 1 hour for our food on a Sunday evening). They took an additional 15 minutes to get the last plate out so one of us had to wait. They BLAST music so loud you can't hear anything but this is the BEST place for comfort food!!
It took 25 minutes to be seated with a reservation. When my party was finally seated it took another 25 minutes to be given water and then another 15 minutes until we were greeted by our waitress. Appetizers took over 30 minutes to come to the table and the food runner almost gave our apps to another table. Entrees also took over 30 minutes. Wasn’t happy with the service, but if you don’t mind waiting, the food is delicious. Don’t plan to return unless it’s a pick up order.
I attended SoCo for a brunch this past Saturday while visiting NY for the first time, accompanied by my good friend and her cousin, aunt, and her cousin's baby. I happened to find the restaurant online and found the menu appealing, my friend's cousin who lives in BY recommended it as well so we were happy to try it out together.
The menu is inviting and different, nearly every dish caught our eyes. The atmosphere and interior is a warm aesthetic. We were all happy with our meal.
This was a return visit and we were very happy to dine with our Brooklyn family. Service was great and we loved the food. I had the shrimp and lobster grits and they were outstanding. I think that was a relatively new addition to the menu and I hope they keep it. My party also had the short ribs and, of course, the fried chicken and waffle. We learned from previous visits that the helpings are huge so limited our order, but all is good. Only small complaint was that on an unseasonably warm night the ac seemed a little uneven. We really like this restaurant.
We were visiting from Chicago and I heard that Soco was a great brunch spot. Our reservation was for 12:00. When we arrived, a young lady rushed to the door informing us we had 10 more minutes. Closing the door abruptly. It was very rude.My food was a bit above room temperature which was a turn off for me. I like my food hot. The greens were sweet which i didn’t like but the service was ok I guess.
I’ll visit once more because I believe in second chances.
Shrimp appetizer was very bland. Everyone at the table had to send theirs back. Drinks were tiny and little watered down. The place was extremely hot; when we asked for the AC to be turned on, we were advised that the AC works only in a certain part of the restaurant. The entrée (chicken and red velvet waffles) tasted good (I've had better but based on the appetizer I expected it to be bland as well but it wasn't.)
I would recommend people to go and experience the place for themselves but I'm over it.
Came here for a birthday dinner and was very impressed by the ambiance. The music was loud enough to be heard but not intrusive. I happened to be sitting underneath the AC vent and I was chilly for most of the evening, (my fault, not the restaurant) the food was hot, drinks were stiff & our waitress was very accommodating. I'll be back, no terminator :)
Had the worse experience at soco. I had a reservation for brunch for my bday and was told we could not get a seat because 1 member of my party was running late. Then when my last guest arrived I was told they didn't have a table for us and don't know how long the wait would be. This is unacceptable and ruined my bday plans. Never going to soco ever again and will be sure to share this horrific experience with others. The receptionist at the front needs to be fired for the appalling service that was received.
Table was ready for time reserved, however food took 45 mins to come out, waitress was lost and had to be summoned at least 3 times by other waiters.. also Oysters were "sold out" by the time we got there.. other than that food was great and the ambiance was nice. Small intimate setting with dim lighting.. music at a moderate volume and TV's above the bar .
