Excellent, imaginative food, and the service was excellent!
Nice setting, great food, loved the layout, service was non-plus and lacked interest or engagement.
Open table find. We were looking for a tasteful atmospheric lunch place before theater on 15 th St. Society Cafe is a cute, low noise place in an old yet funky hotel. I order the trout with fried artichokes and spicy cous cous, delicious and companion enjoyed her salad with chicken. A nice find!
My friends and I were looking for a nice place for lunch where we could linger and talk and not feel rushed. Society Cafe was the perfect choice! The food was delicious, the service was unobtrusive but tended to our needs, and the ambiance was lovely.
We sat and talked for hours, never feeling rushed, as we enjoyed our wonderful meal.
We can’t wait for return!
This was our first time there, and we will definitely come back, the food was great, I had the octopus and it was the best I ever had, was cooked perfectly, that tells me the chef is very good, every thing we ordered was delicious!
I was so excited to try the olive oil pancakes but was sorely disappointed. They were dense, dry, and not light or crispy like I had imagined. Service was a bit disjointed too. The hotel it’s in looks interesting fwiw.
Excellent food for a reasonable price; loooooved the Kale Caesar and all agreed everyone’s varied dishes were very good
A nice, spacious restaurant. The food was good and we had a great time. The staff was very accommodating and made sure we had a great experience.
The restaurant is in the Walker hotel, it is really a beautiful spot. The food was delicious and the service was great. It’s a large comfortable restaurant with a great bar and cocktails. There is a lounge in the lobby area, before you enter the restaurant and there was a singer who is wonderful. Very enjoyable.
The ambiance was nice and the service was good but food was disappointing. We got a pizza to share and two different pastas. The pizza was very cheesy and oily like a dollar slice pizza and pastas were just alright. This place would be good for just drinks though.
Went to Society Cafe for dinner on a Saturday night for the first time. We ordered chickpea fritters, burrata, mushroom pizza, cavatelli, and the red snapper. We finished with chocolate cake. None of the food was particularly outstanding - the fritters were bland, the burrata came with 1 tiny cracker and was flavorless, and the red snapper was a bit overcooked and dry, and the cavatelli was just bad. The pizza was solid, but it's kind of hard to go wrong with melted gruyere and mushrooms, and the pop-over table bread was delicious.
Service was brisk and the waitservice didn't seem enthusiastic or personable. The atmosphere was really weird. The decor was pretty interesting, but there was pop rock music playing that didn't fit the vibe at all. The place was also 50% empty on a Saturday night which was weird. Overall, I was pretty disappointed given the positive reviews and there are many better restaurants in the neighborhood.
Love this restaurant. Bar is great. Food is delicious. Service is very kind. Would love more options for wine by the glass.
Superb food and service, great burger.
Good bar and cocktail!
Beautiful cozy space with great taste in art! Delicious food, and kind service!
Useful for its location and because its menu accommodates different tastes - but it is loud and the food only mediocre
great food in a beautiful brownstone hotel. Chic and polished. will go back!!
They were able to accommodate a large group, which was great since it’s pretty difficult to get that at prime time Saturday night. Food was pretty great - I had the grilled octopus with roe and the burrata, but another friend commented that the skirt steak pasta was subpar. Ambience was beautiful! They have live jazz in the lobby, also beautiful.
Excellent attentive service. Wonderful food. Very pretty comfortable setting.
Delicious food in a relaxing atmosphere. Found hostess to be unaccommodating and service was sub-par.
The food was decent, well priced but there are definitely better places, drinks were good - strong for the price. Really nice atmosphere and service was good.
Very nice atmosphere, lighting, noise level. Friendly service, good menu, and fairly reasonable. A nice place.
Just a great place. Fabulous small plates -- try the four cheese pizza!! -- friendly and efficient wait staff, lovely atmosphere. And reasonable, to boot. Can't say enough about how much I love this place.
Ivan was a great server. We had a party of 6 and the noise level was perfect as we could all hear each other. It's also a very nice space. Crispy Sticky Rice,Chickpea Fries, Artichoke Hummus,Portuguese Octopus and Burrata were perfect appetizers to star with. The Red Snapper,Brisket Burger (huge),Sea Scallops,Short Rib Agnolotti and Four Cheese Pizza all were delicious. We did send the Pizza back to be cooked some more and came back perfectly crispy.5 Boroughs Pilsner,Grey Goose,Pinot Noir and Pinot Grigio's made the night a delight. Thank you and we will be back!
The food was very good, unfortunately the service was poor. Some food arrived cold, the waitress was not very attentive and there weren’t enough ingredients to make a signature cocktail.
My parents and I loved this locale. The food, service, and ambience was en pointe. The staff was so friendly and for my parent's fortieth anniversary, gave us a delicious complimentary dessert. We were floored and had a wonderful time and will definitely return. Thank you!
Went to celebrate birthdays for our guests, a young couple visiting from overseas. They are big foodies and were interested in an American experience. I hadn't been before, but the website and reviews were intriguing. What a nice surprise - beautiful room, delicious American food, terrific service. And especially pleased that despite the very large table, the acoustics and background noise allowed for easy conversation (without having to shout like most places these days). The reason I didn't rank with 5 stars across the board is that the bottles of wine were overpriced, and the portions were a tad small. Nonetheless, I would definitely return. Special thank you to the staff for adding the birthday candle and wishes to the dessert for our guests.
Warm, cozy friendly restaurant with very good food and service.
Absolutely loved the hotel! Staff and ambiance on point. February in NYC worked out very nicely, cold temps and all.
Nice brunch - tons of natural light and good spacing between tables. So perfect for our party of 6 to be in a horseshoe shaped booth. Nice omelets and salads too. I would love to see them add a frenchtoast option!
Very disconnected and lackluster service, especially for a so-called Michelin Star restaurant. Our waiter didn’t seem to care if we were happy or not or if we needed anything. Timing was really awful, the person who I was with’s entré came out about 40 mins before mine...the food was good but we literally had to WORK to get our food or ask for anything extra.
Also don’t order the $14 hummus/chips or veggies combo ($7 each), smallest most ridiculous portion of humus ever (bowl comes with the very bottom lined w/ hummus, it’s essentially an empty bowl that has about 4 bites in it, so plan on ordering at least 4 more)...
Although, at the end they did comp us my entré due to the wait - But the food was really delicious, everything else was not as positive though
I chose Society Cafe for Restaurant Week because their dinner menu was better than many of the other restaurants. The ambience was very nice. It felt like we were having dinner in someone's study. The cocktails were well crafted (not watered down and they used the correct ice for cocktails, I'm a snob when it comes to that) and the food was excellent! I will definitely return to Society Cafe!
Enjoyed the food, had great service, and will be going back very soon.
Overall our experience was nothing short of amazing. We ordered from the Restaurant Week menu and were not disappointed. The food was excellent and our server, Sierra, was amazing! I highly recommend this restaurant and cannot wait to return! Five star rating all throughout.
Everybody was polite. The waitress knew what she was talking about. The food looked great. I didn’t really liked the burger I had, but my husband did like it.
Came here for restaurant week winter 2019 and it was fantastic. I had the olive oil poached laughing bird shrimp to start and the pan roasted porgy as my entree from the RW menu. I'm not usually a big seafood person, but both dishes were prepared so well! I highly recommend them. My friend ordered the eggs florentine (off the RW menu) and she enjoyed it. We also ordered the olive oil pancakes to share (off of the RW menu) and it was okay. It was a more mature spin on the classic pancakes. The ambience and service were excellent as well. I will be returning!
Very disappointing experience. Out of 4 meals, only one was good (the burger.) Two orders of Eggs Benedict came out cold and the order of quiche was not only cold, but it was more like a pudding pie. It was solid and it had actually hardened on the ends as if it had been cut and sitting on the plate waiting to be ordered and served. Also, the quiche was supposed to have carmelized onions, spinach and tomato and I think I had one bite of something that didn't taste like egg pudding. The ingredients weren't even noticeable. In addition, both people who ordered the Eggs Benedict ordered a side of potatoes each; the waitress never told them that potatoes were included with the dish, therefore we spent an extra $12 on potatoes that were not necessary and not eaten. The dressing on the side salads was good, but the salad itself wasn't very fresh. There were several pieces of stale, mushy greens. We told the waitress that the orders were cold and she said she was sorry. Then, we never saw her again. She didn't come back to our table to ask if we wanted dessert and we had to ask someone else for our check.
The Walker Hotel is lovely and I and was very anxious to have brunch there to celebrate my birthday (which had been noted on the Open Table reservation) but was very disappointed. I would not recommend.
We went for the winter restaurant week but ended up ordering from main menu. We will be going back real soon!
Food for the restaurant week special was delicious. The restaurant itself is beautiful, from the ceiling to the floors, the fireplaces, etc. We felt rushed through the meal, which was the only downside. I would definitely come back though.
Quiet and quaint hotel lower level. Upscale feel. Excellent service. Tasteful food
