The best brunch with friends! They sat us on the outskirts of the restaurant (in the hotel lobby) and it felt like we were having a private dining experience. Our server, Brett (who was amazing), recommended a mimosa pitcher, which was completely worth it economically. The food was incredible and the ambience was perfect. Definitely going back soon!
Our table was dark and though I asked to change it I was told the other tables were reserved. There was still one empty table when we left.
The eggs in my eggs benedict were cold and the English muffin was hardly toasted. I didn't complain as I didn't want to upset my guests. My guests ordered whole grain bread and and English muffin to go with their omelet and it never came. My date who ordered the same thing had a similar complaint.
At the end of the meal, they cleared the table and removed the teaspoons which I felt was there way of saying no more coffee for you. I liked that the room is spacious and not super noisy. It was comfortable and the bathrooms are nice even if they are downstairs.
Great ambience in unexpected locale. Limited menu executed well.
I had a perfect dining experience at Society Cafe, and I can't wait to go back again.
For dinner, my dining companion and I ordered the Forbidden Fruit cocktail, octopus and sticky rice starters, butternut squash ravioli, duck ragu cavatelli, scallops and the deconstructed apple pie dessert. We were both completely stuffed after our meals, leaving super satisfied.
EVERYTHING was delicious and unique. The octopus and cavatelli dishes particularly stood out to me, and I will definitely order those again when I go back. The duck ragu was cooked to perfection and melted in my mouth. My waiter informed me that the kitchen at Society Cafe gets a lot of their ingredients from the local farmers market, and you can taste the freshness in their food. I was really impressed by the menu in general, which was a creative take on your typical American style restaurant. The flavors that were put together, including the smokeyness of the apple pie, were ones that I hadn't realized I had been missing.
The dining room is beautiful and cozy, perfect spot for a date night and a refugee from the bustling Manhattan streets. The staff was extremely attentive and friendly, adding to the general welcoming environment. Overall, a lovely evening.
Wonderful breakfast, attentive service.
Food was ok at best. Service was abysmal. Waiter took our order, didn't bring our food, never checked on us again, had to flag down a random person to pay the bill. I specifically asked for no pickles (as I have an allergy), food still came with pickles.
Food is not good here at all, we ordered hummus, 2 pizzas and a new dessert. The pizza was very greasy and not something I would expect at a sit down restaurant. I could only eat 2 pieces and the overall flavors were not good. The hummus lacked flavor. The dessert was new - banana cheese cake and it was very bad. They were nice to remove the the dessert from our check. They need a serious revamp of the menu because none of the food tasted good.
Old style New York club with great pizza. A very nice place to catch up with friends.
One issue, the waiter kept saying we needed to give more money, even though I showed his manager was getting a 30% tip for 4 ladies for a relaxed lunch, with generous women. She said he didn’t understand; well, then he shouldn’t be a waiter. One of the women said we should take money back, but I just wanted to get out - after showing his boss the math, of course, at which time he mysteriously stopped trying to extort yet more money out of us.
Seated so quickly they forgot to tell open table that we were there. Had bar snacks a week ago. Today the pretzel was greasy and hard to break apart without many napkins and artichoke hummus was bland. Bloody Marys too hot and spicy to sip and enjoy.
Mushroom pizza and aged steak quite good. Red snapper way over cooked..we left it over and no one even commented. Banana bread cheesecake very hard to eat. Banana bread so hard could not cut it with fork or knife. Told they were croutons. We thought they were inedible and again no comment that we left it over almost untouched.
Waitress pleasant but missing in action much of the meal on a very quiet night. Really indifferent to the meal we were having...and not eating.
So, positives and negatives. Life is too short for average experiences.
What a great find this place was. We were seated right away, our food and drinks were brought to us very quickly, the Mimosas had a good pour, and we were able to sit and catch up with our friend in an elegant and quiet atmosphere. Will definitely go back to this restaurant. Could not be happier.
Great place to eat before or after the theater in the revitalized 13th Street area. The food is very good and the bread is amazing. Very cool ambience with banquette seating that makes it easy to entertain a group.
We spilt a few appetisers-
Octopus (came highly recommend) was not disappointed!!!
Butternut squash ravioli (I was apprehensive because I’m not a big squash fan) I wanted more!
Rice squares so much flavour!
Main dish I had the aged steak- medium rare with a request to be more to rare then medium- and they hit it right!
The atmosphere is comfortable with outstanding attention from the wait staff!
And the price for what you get is amazing!
I am looking forward to my next visit to the city so I can enjoy this again....
I went to this place with my husband for a special occasion and we were not disappointed. The space looked beautiful and the food was delicious. I had the octopus and short rib agnolotti and my husband had the shishitos and scallops which I can highly recommend. Definitely coming back to try the rest of the menu and desserts.
Society Cafe is a hidden gem! Delicious food and an setting perfect for any type of gathering.
Extremely slow and unattentive service for a mostly empty restaurant.
Quiet, relaxed, mostly empty the night we were there. Peculiarly so for a highly-rated place in a good location. I have a sensitivity to dairy and they were quite helpful with that, though a lot of their enters have dairy cooked in. I ordered the brisket burger, medium well, without cheese and I would say it was cooked very-well done. It was tasty but charred, so that could have been better. Fries were good but not great. The broccoli rabe side was very good, best thing we ordered. My companion ordered a pasta and really liked it. Desserts were quite good.
Five people for brunch, restaurant want not very busy, entrées came for 4/5, we reminded the waiter of my husbands breakfast, and again reminded, waiters and assistants of his order as they came by the table with water refills, etc, he ordered a simple item off the regular brunch menu, nothing unusual, we all finished eating, and after at least 3 requests for his meal, we told them to forget it, paid and left. So disappointing, Murray’s for a bagel!
The place was very nice and quiet enough to have a nice conversation. The waitrrs were attentive and kind. Nevertheless, the service was not optimal. We had to remind the waiter we didn’t have salt, sugar on the table.
The food was very disappointing: burnt muffins under the Eggs Benedict😢, cold hollandaise sauce and very bland eggs, potatoes and salad. The menu looks very good and elaborate for brunch, though🤷🏻♀️.
Society Cafe is such a lovely restaurant!! I came here on a date and later an anniversary and it such a cute, romantic spot. The food was spectacular and the vibe was very intimate with a piano playing in the lobby. It has this almost speakeasy-esque vibe since it’s not too obvious that there is restaurant there but once you walk in the space is so beautiful. Definitely check it out; you won’t be disappointed
Very good place to meet
The space feels like one of those old clubby New York restaurants, comfortable dark with space between the tables and comfortable seating. It's funny because the hotel is so new so the restaurant is definitely a throwback. Nothing on the menu would have been served when the style of the restaurant was in its heyday. The mushroom pizza we ate was fantastic. While a pasta dish was no great shakes, the staff was very accommodating about fixing it. The fact that it's tucked in the back of the basement of the hotel create a very romantic and almost speakeasy-like atmosphere.
I would have given it 5 stars, however, the runner came to my table and didn’t speak. Just smiled and motioned to take my unfinished food. We had a late reservation and were the only guests at the restaurants that evening. The runner was unprofessional, he needs some sensitivity training. My sticky rice sauce was taken by him & thrown away. I clearly wasn’t done, had he just simply asked, he would have known. The condescending smile was rude, and disrespectful. The bar tender/server was amazing & did her very best to handle the situation.
I’ll definitely be back. Thank you Chef!

Really cute location, would be great for dinner with a group or a quiet date night. Service was great, food was wonderful! I would absolutely go back
I love society cafe. The food is always delicious and the service is always friendly. However during our most recent trip here the waitress had limited knowledge of the menu and could not provide any guidance. Our food also took a very long time to be served with no apology or explanation.
A very nice dining experience. The food was amazing! The popovers were a lovely touch. Service was excellent and the atmosphere very pleasant. I'm sure I'll be back.
We went for restaurant week. The appetizers were “meh”... I have the heirloom tomato salad and the tomatoes were not ripe. The entree was fine (a bit salty)... the desserts were awful. We will not be back.
Portions were way too small for the price- service was pleasant.
Our service was incredible. The food— every dish, was perfect. I could not believe the value when the check came. A perfect meal, I’d say.
Excellent service! Nicely curated menu. Food and cocktails were great. Decor beautiful and warm. Great spot for a meal with friends, family (I would leave little ones with a sitter) and dates. Will be back for sure. Enjoy!
Good place to get away from NY. Lovely breakfast. Thanks much.
Excellent restaurant for conversation as it was neither noisy nor crowded and had bar area separated from the restaurant portion plus ample space between tables. We were a group of five and easily accommodated. Staff was very pleasant and accommodating. We ate drank and conversed here for four hours and all enjoyed it immensely. Pasta dishes, whole wheat pizza, popovers, and deserts we tried were all excellent. Full drink menu and among us we had cocktails, a bottle of red wine, and beer on tap, all of which were great. Nice ambiance. Good place for birthday dinner, casual business meal, gathering of friends especially. Our group definitely plans to return.
The food was delicious and the pre-fix menu was a great deal!
Excellent restaurant! It was my first time there and really enjoyed everything: the delicious food, amazing service and ambiance. Congratulations to all of you, specially to the chef. Their NY Restaurant Week menu is very creative and I will be back many times.
attractive with very good food but much too noisy....
Dined here with family who were in from out of town. We ordered the French Toast, Shakshuka, chicken waffle sandwich, pancakes, and two regular breakfasts (two eggs, sausage, toast) none of the food was really extraordinary. We could have gotten this meal (even more) at a different place for a much less. We spent over $240 on breakfast (essentially) for four adults and two kids. The service was good.
Very pleasant surroundings and tasty food.. generous portions.. sharing makes sense..
First, the waitress was great! This mediocre review has nothing to do with her. SHE WAS AWESOME! The hostess however wasn’t. I sat at one table for half an hour while my date waited in the cocktail area. He mentioned my reservation. I was there. The hostess wasn’t doing her job. She also looked frazzled and the restaurant was not busy. The food was mediocre hotel cuisine. The salad was way overdressed. I asked for any type of vegetable instead of the potatoes with my entree however that request was ignored. They could have even charged me for a side of vegetables if there was a “no substitution” policy. I would have been fine with that. However instead it was a plate with nothing but four slices of lamb-belly. I think it might be a good place for cocktails. However if you want a satisfying meal, I’d walk somewhere else along 5th or 6th.
Found this gem on a holiday weekend. Went with two friends who are very particular and they both raved about the spot I had found. We will certainly be back. The decor ambiance and food was wonderful. Very happy to have dined here. I was also pleasantly surprised to be able to hear everyone throughout the course of our meal. The service was great and the wait staff allowed us to stay and chat after having finished our meal while sipping on coffee as we enjoyed the restaurant so much. Great find! Great meal! Great review!
Great atmosphere and unique dining space which includes natural overhead lighting. Hospitable staff, high quality ingredients & very delicious cuisine! Thanks chef(s)!
