Sociale (say - "SO-SHEE-AH-LAY!") was born in the bistros of Florence and raised here in Presidio heights. Laughter and Italian music are heard floating up from the star-lit, heated patio greeting you from the discreet garden alley below. Families and friends leaving the frenetic pace of the city behind can experience a lighter and decidedly more Italian mood celebrating in our new private dining room, the traditional room or on the patio as the irresistible scents of warm pastas, herb-infused meats, and the sweet honey and nut coated sfingi with vanilla bean gelato shake permeate the surrounding space. Bewitching and eclectic wines from Italy and California complement the weekly changing menus that Chef Tia Harrison crafts with joy and delight for our neighborhood friends!

Sociale Ratings and Reviews
Were trying to figure out where to go on a late night Friday night dinner... made reservation on the ride over, and quickly seated outdoors in a beautiful space. Food was delicious as always (glad to see nothing has changed since it re-opened!)... only minor thought: it seemed they were ushering us out (literally clearing off all the tables) at 10:15 pm and we were enjoying ourselves and would have sat longer, but felt bad so left only to see people in the other dining room still eating.
Well,... this was one of our more favorite restaurants, however this time... not so much! Perhaps it was simply a bad night, but... to start, the waiter had a difficult time with basic English when explaining the dishes. The starter of olives, which I generally love, was not particularly crispy and fresh. Then, I had the duck beast which was basically raw (not rare), with sides that didn't particularly match. My partner had the halibut with similar results. Then, while ordering a Tuscan $300 wine, the somalier mentioned that they had another year of the same wine in stock,.. '10 instead of an '08. So we decided to try the newer vintage. The '08, which we had before in Italy, was better. However, he failed to mention that the '10 cost $600, not $300... AFTER we drank the wine!!! ... A HUGE no no in our book! So,... definitely not a good experience. If this were the first time visiting there, we would never have returned!
We had a team dinner on MLK holiday evening in this little neighborhood gem. Great appetizer bruschetta, great special salad that night, entrees were classic Italian dishes that were wonderful. Wine list is almost entirely Italian so you should have an idea of what you are looking for or ask for help. Staff was wonderful and service was perfect. I look forward to going back.
Everything was great except for service which was just ok. Our waiter was unfailingly polite but they forgot or didn’t hear 3 separate items over 2 courses (he was genuine in his apologies). But 1 is a non- event, 2 an accident, but 3?
In all still a very pleasant dinner at a neighborhood gem of a restaurant.
We have eaten at Sociale several times and always reliable. However, this time the kale salad was too salty (cheese was the culprit), and the clams linguine had sand. Service for the main courses took a long time and the restaurant was half empty, on a Saturday night, surprisingly.
It is beautifully decorated and very charming. But something has happened. very disappointed.
Had a delicious meal with friends. The wine list was exceptional and our server, Jason, knew that we were having a hard time deciding on wine, so he let us sample several before we ordered! That was extraordinary. The ambiance was intimate, the atmosphere was serene, and the service was classy. Definite must.
The Ambience here is AAA+ ! I found the menu options a bit limited, and I did not like my stuffed fish dish-which I think was poached -but our appetizer with pork belly was simply amazing! Definitely will give it another try next time I’m looking for a romantic spot-highly recommend sitting in the outdoor garden💜
We’ve eaten at Sociale before, always a pleasure, but 12/8/17 was the best yet. Just old friends sharing an early holiday meal, but comfy place, VERY attentive and professional service. My pasta bolognese was outstanding. Wine list a tad pricey but excellent. Perhaps our favorite place in SF.
We dined here before when the food was better. Last night was our 29th wedding anniversary, so we expected Sociale to deliver. The Cesar salad and fried olives were good. Both our main courses, however, were too salty. ( my wife had the stuffed pepper and I had sole.). When our waiter asked us how our food was, we leveled with him. He tried to make amends by offering to take our dishes back and asking the chef to re-– prepare it. However, we rejected his kind offer and he, instead, comped us desserts.
There were many outstanding moments in our dining experience. However, my entree was not the quality expected from a chef who prides herself on butchering her own hogs and who specializes in pork dishes. The wine steward was excellent; he really knows his wine list and is able to interpret patron's explanations of what they would like to taste and guide them to make a tasty choice. This was a friend's birthday celebration and we both said we would definitely go back!
After enjoying Sociale on multiple occasions over the past ten years, we were disappointed in our dining experience over the weekend. The hostess sat us at a central table, close to the bar and close to the six-top high-level table near the hostess station. Big mistake: the noise where we had been seated was so loud that our entire evening was ruined. We should have been seated in one of the other rooms and there was an empty four-top in the alcove to the right as you enter. We think that room would have been much quieter. But when we complained about the noise after sitting down, the hostess would not move us to that table, though we're not sure why.
The noise level in Sociale has gotten so annoyingly loud that we'll never go back again.
Excellent Italian fare and wine list. Seasonal dishes with locally sourced ingredients imaginatively prepared. Cozy space with a covered outdoor patio that is quite nice, and a private space that looks out on the patio. Service is professional and never lacking.
