Sociale (say - "SO-SHEE-AH-LAY!") was born in the bistros of Florence and raised here in Presidio heights. Laughter and Italian music are heard floating up from the star-lit, heated patio greeting you from the discreet garden alley below. Families and friends leaving the frenetic pace of the city behind can experience a lighter and decidedly more Italian mood celebrating in our new private dining room, the traditional room or on the patio as the irresistible scents of warm pastas, herb-infused meats, and the sweet honey and nut coated sfingi with vanilla bean gelato shake permeate the surrounding space. Bewitching and eclectic wines from Italy and California complement the weekly changing menus that Chef Tia Harrison crafts with joy and delight for our neighborhood friends!

Sociale Ratings and Reviews
We’ve eaten at Sociale before, always a pleasure, but 12/8/17 was the best yet. Just old friends sharing an early holiday meal, but comfy place, VERY attentive and professional service. My pasta bolognese was outstanding. Wine list a tad pricey but excellent. Perhaps our favorite place in SF.
We dined here before when the food was better. Last night was our 29th wedding anniversary, so we expected Sociale to deliver. The Cesar salad and fried olives were good. Both our main courses, however, were too salty. ( my wife had the stuffed pepper and I had sole.). When our waiter asked us how our food was, we leveled with him. He tried to make amends by offering to take our dishes back and asking the chef to re-– prepare it. However, we rejected his kind offer and he, instead, comped us desserts.
There were many outstanding moments in our dining experience. However, my entree was not the quality expected from a chef who prides herself on butchering her own hogs and who specializes in pork dishes. The wine steward was excellent; he really knows his wine list and is able to interpret patron's explanations of what they would like to taste and guide them to make a tasty choice. This was a friend's birthday celebration and we both said we would definitely go back!
After enjoying Sociale on multiple occasions over the past ten years, we were disappointed in our dining experience over the weekend. The hostess sat us at a central table, close to the bar and close to the six-top high-level table near the hostess station. Big mistake: the noise where we had been seated was so loud that our entire evening was ruined. We should have been seated in one of the other rooms and there was an empty four-top in the alcove to the right as you enter. We think that room would have been much quieter. But when we complained about the noise after sitting down, the hostess would not move us to that table, though we're not sure why.
The noise level in Sociale has gotten so annoyingly loud that we'll never go back again.
Excellent Italian fare and wine list. Seasonal dishes with locally sourced ingredients imaginatively prepared. Cozy space with a covered outdoor patio that is quite nice, and a private space that looks out on the patio. Service is professional and never lacking.
This is my third time eating at sociale in the last several weeks. The food is going been consistently outstanding. The service is been consistently subpar. They are simply understaffed there's a wait to get in you can take anywhere from 10 to 20 minutes for somebody even show up at your table and the food is brought out at a irregular intervals knowing that I'd still go back because the food was absolutely delicious on all three occasions
We shared the fried olives stuffed with fontina cheese. I thought it was good, my friend thought the green olives were too bitter. Then we split a smoked trout panzanella salad with a half grilled artichoke under the salad and with aioli on the bottom. Not very good and the server did not offer to split the artichoke, so we had to struggle to do it and not send everything across the table. We both had the halibut, which was perfectly cooked, but served with like four spears of glazed yams, which means less than half a yam between the two plates, sort of skimpy for $32. I had the pineapple sorbet which was great. My friend had the banana cake which he liked. The service was somewhat over "attentive," which means I felt a little rushed. The wine list is for conniseurs. Least expensive glass of wine was $12 and bottle was $46. The rest of the wine list went sky high. Not exactly like restaurants in Italy, where there are always a few inexpensive house wines.
So the food was pretty good, except for that salad, but for the price, I didn't think it was a good value.
For San Francisco, this is just a good restaurant tucked away in a quiet part of town. Our dinners were good but not excellent by any means. We were most wowed by the dessert, a flourless chocolate cake drizzled with olive oil, sea salt, and almond slivers - a surprisingly delicious taste combination!
i sent one via google. your place is not noisy at all . what makes it great are several factors, you cannot hear traffic, its quiet, you can talk in the place , the food is wonderful, their is not enough stars, should have 10 stars. great anniversary dinner we had. desert was great. the preparer and waiter did an excellent job. i can send pics via Facebook.
Staff are friendly and courteous, but nobody came to pour my wine when the glass was empty. Also the service was out of order. They served the wine after we finished with our appetizers.
Food is on the salty side. We all ordered pastas, but none is awfully impressive. The pork chop special was tasty enough to save the night.
Overall, it maybe a good place for a business meal. But otherwise I would not recommend it.
