Socarrat Paella Bar - Nolita
Socarrat, the quintessence of the perfect paella and for which the restaurant is named, is the delectable, sensuous crust that forms on the bottom of the paella pan when the liquid is rendered and the rice reaches its peak of succulence. The menu, an authentic array of delicious dishes from the regions of Spain specializing in traditional tapas with an accent on paella and fideua (which substitutes fried noodles for rice) that can be characterized as a true exploration for the palette.
Socarrat Nolita's ambience denotes feelings of warmth, comfort and hospitality. Building on its sister restaurant's identity as a small, intimate space comprised primarily of one large communal table, the restaurant also offers banquet, bar and table seating.
Price is to high for such small portions, but food and service were good.
Live flamenco on Tuesdays. The food was delicious. The place has a very warm ambiance and the staff was friendly and helpful.
The best Pealla place in NYC! I have been here for several times. I really like the lobster pealla and the signature. For tapas, I love the chicken skewers and the garlic shrimps. Nice environment and nice staff here.
This is one of our local go to places. They have really good tapas and the seafood paella is great.
Socarrat Paella Bar is a nice looking restaurant, with great ambiance. However, when we went for dinner, music was too loud for the amount of tables with people (only 3) and the type of music: disco. A more mellow selection of songs would have fitted better with the ambiance and type of food.
The quality of the good is ok, but not spectacular. Have had lots of tapas and paellas in my life, including in Spain, and this is sub-par. The cost is rather high, especially for the paella, for the quality of the food. One medium size paella, good for 2 people, set us back by $58! And that's not including tapas, and drinks. So rather expensive for the quality of the food.
Overall it was very good with the exception of the noise level!! It was to loud and the table full of drunk women who were so obnoxious just made it worse!!
The service was not so good my table was given away before I was done
Great Restaurant and wonderful authentic Spanish food. Our hostess Amaia was warm, friendly and just wonderful. I would highly recommend this restaurant
I love Spanish Food and this was the best-! Thank you for beautiful wine, food and hospitality
Great experience! Great tapas and paella! Came with a large group and it was great!
Always good service and delicious foods!
All staffs are kind and smile.
If you looking for tapas, my answer is always here!
Great food, staff, service, ambiance. A bit too loud for a romantic dinner or normal conversation. Great wines but a bit too pricey with most bottles over $55
The restaurant was very small and cramped
Paellas are okay but not really good. Sangria is bad
Service and atmosphere was perfect - the seafood in our dish was way over cooked and tasted like we spent $28 (each) on frozen and reheated scallops and shrimp. Rice was great though! If you go, maybe stick to other things besides the seafood.
We came here for my birthday dinner on a Monday. So was not too busy. The service was great and the waitress had a beautiful voice when she sang to me.
We were so disappointed with our experience at Socarrat. The evening got off to a good start with two delicious small plates of soup and fried artichokes. The waiter said the paella took a long time to make and that was fine. But 40 minutes passed and we were still waiting. The server provided several updates, saying it was coming “soon” and then should be “5 more minutes”. The 5 minutes came and went and still no food. We are paitent, so waiting wasn’t so terrible, but the paella that finally came out was totally over cooked and the seafood mix of shrimp, scallops, and lobster was all very tough and chewy. This restaurant definitely did not live up to the hype.
I used to love this place; but the food is not what it was. The shrimps were over cooked. The paella undercooked. Even the olives were not great. It seems like there is less care, in general, and yet dinner for two totaled over $200.
Wonderful warm and inviting atmosphere! Food is fantastic! Service outstanding!
Everything was so good!!!
Miserable experience. The food had no taste. Just a lot of fried/creamy foods with no taste. This was my first time back in almost three years. Seriously decline over that time. We knew the paella took 45 min, ordered tapas with no taste that came out 3 minutes after ordering than had a very long wait for the paella. My lobster paella was over cooked and under seasoned. Had no taste, all the fish and rice was dried out. It was also cold enough that I had a feeling it sat under heat lamps for a while. My service was so bad that I didn’t even have a chance to say something to the waitress because she ignored my table for an hour. We couldn’t even get the bill until we waived over the hostess after multiple attempts to get our waitresses attention as she attended all the tables around us but wouldn’t look our way. I spent $76 dollars on a dish that in my opinion was barely edible and half the lobster went uneaten due to being so dry it was more effort to chew. Then had to get a second dinner afterwards because this meal was so poor.
It was our first time at Soccarat in Nolita, and we loved it. My best friend is from Madrid, and we came for the weekly Flamenco show at Soccarat, which was as if we were spending an evening in Spain. The music was great, the service amazing and super friendly. We are definitely coming back to Soccarat for the food and the live flamenco. Loved it.
Highly recommended :)
Service was mediocre.
The staff are exceptional - the front of house staff as well as the attentive wait staff. And the food was exquisite - we left not a morsel, a drop of sauce, a crumb of bread.
My boyfriend and I got the Restaurant Week menu her for a date night, and I SO BADLY want to give this place five stars, because our servers were lovely, the ambiance was great, and our appetizers and desserts were killer. However, I have to give it three stars because it is a PAELLA restaurant, and to be honest our Socarrat Paella was pretty lame. It took over an hour to get to us after our appetizer (which was fine, we had a bottle of wine to get through), but the rice wasn't crispy at all except for a tiny bit around the edges, and overall the entire dish was pretty dry, including all of the seafood. Maybe they forgot to bring it out and it got cold so they reheated it? Overall, I'd say this place is really nice for a date night, since it's a little pricey but not wildly so – hopefully we just got unlucky with our paella.
We went on a night where there was a live flamenco show, so it was pretty loud but very entertaining. The paella was tasty and more than food for 2 people. We enjoyed our date but if there is a live performance having a conversation with your dinner date isn't easy.
The service was good but the Paella was bland and overpriced. The tapas were decent but the dessert fell short - skinny, chewy churros? Not great at all.
We went for restaurant week and it was definitely worth it!
The food is tasty, but the portions are a little on the small side.
Perfect spot for an intimate dinner
Huge portions make for great value, but for a date the noise level is excessive.
The food was nothing to brag about. Average paella at best
Service was very friendly and the ambiance was nice—dark and classic American pop songs (though I would’ve expected something in Spanish given the theme...). The food wasn’t great though. We ordered croquettas, which are usually made of ham or chicken. The menu didn’t specify so I assumed it was ham, but nope! To our surprise they tasted like mushroom and mayo. Not great. For the main, we ordered a classic seafood paella and it was probably one of the saddest/worst paella’s I’ve ever had. The rice was a bit watery, it lacked the saffron flavor that’s typical of the dish, the seafood in it should’ve been cooked into it more so that it could get more of the flavor. Overall, just sad. It felt as if they prepared the dishes and then just added whatever sauce and meat combo people ordered afterwards. Really not a good value for what we paid.
Made a reservation on saturday night and had to change it day of (1 person couldnt make it). Changed with no issue or hassle. Arrived and table was ready for us. Service was impeccable! I dont like being hounded by waiters all the time but they also didnt disappear when we did need them. It was a little loud but expected so that didn't bother me. Food was amazing! Would come here again.
Flamenco night was terrific. Everyone was very friendly and it was a great evening
We celebrated our 45th anniversary with a lobster paella, as we’ve doing it every year since we met at a paella restaurant in Buenos Aires. The service was very courteous, although a bit slow. We’re treat to glasses of an excellent champagne
Great tapas place, with Flamenco on Tuesdays
tapas were great- good portions for sharing. staff were very friendly. drinks were very good!
