Socarrat Paella Bar - Midtown East
Socarrat, the quintessence of the perfect paella and for which the restaurant is named, is the delectable, sensuous crust that forms on the bottom of the paella pan when the liquid is rendered and the rice reaches its peak of succulence. The menu, an authentic array of delicious dishes from the regions of Spain specializing in traditional tapas with an accent on paella and fideua (which substitutes fried noodles for rice) that can be characterized as a true exploration for the palette.
Our Midtown location, the most recent addition to the Socarrat family, displays a lively atmosphere that is perfect for small and big groups alike. Book your next party in our private dining room!

Great brunch deal. Kept our glasses full
THe food was the best paella they ever made. We got a lot of personal service, too!
The hostess was so sweet! So was our waiter. The food was a little salty but the experience was good
Fantastic food and service! Only issue was sitting outside on a slanted sidewalk but it really did not even matter - everything else was so fantastic!
It was great, unique spot right in MidTown! Honestly, better paella than in Spain - lunch deal was a steal too.
Phenomenal service and delicious food.
The food was great and the restaurant followed COVID protocol. All servers wore a mask and sanitizer was available at all tables.
The food quality seems have gone down a lot since its opening.
We could see the nose of the waiter coming out of his mask while he was talking to us . I felt so unsafe
Brunch/outside dining at the patio was so good! Good distance from other tables so we felt comfortable! Of course foods/drinks are great!
Very comparable to fine cuisine in Barcelona. This is a fine choice for outdoor dining in a safe environment.
The tapas were good. The paella was very overpriced for the small amount - basically rice with some seafood on top. Not what we expected.
Súper buena comida, atención y muy buen precio!
Delicious food, ate outside as is the norm currently. Friendly wait staff, quick service.
Fun as always
Amazing food... The brunch special you can't beat from appetizer to dessert. Everything was amazing the best res sangria... I will be coming back soon..
The food was okay, and the portions were small. There was a notice on the menu asking all diners to only stay for 90 minutes given the shortage of tables. After about 75 minutes of our meal, we were told that they need the table for the next reservation.
Cute date night spot or girls night out full of Sangria, Tapas and Paella!
Covid time...I believe food is better when the operations are fully running..
Very overpriced paella, without that true, rich authentic taste. Tapas are also horrifically expensive, although the chicken croquetas were good. Chorizo & cheese boards were unremarkable and so was the tortilla. Truly superb pork belly, though, which I would order again if I ever came back. Atmosphere is pleasant, with a buzzy bar area and comfortable surroundings.
Not as expected
Noisy but excellent paella. We had lobster/seafood
Artichoke taps also very good
BEST Paella I have found in the city. I always want to try other items on the menu but I can't resist the paella.
Food was delicious. The service was spectacular. Everyone was friendly.
The tapas and appetizers were all outstanding but the paella was a total disappointment. It wasn’t cooked enough. No socarrat!
Perfect place for a girls night!
Extremely overpriced for below average experience. Quite disappointing
Second visit to a
For a place named after the crispy part at the bottom of paella, and a place that makes a big show out of scraping the pan, there was no soccarat. The waiter, however, was an angel in helping us with our business expense separate checks.
Superb tapas matched by excellent service. The shishito peppers and the squid were my favorite - closely followed by the croquetas!
This is a perfect spot for those who enjoy eating delicious paellas and tapas. The food does not disappoint, it is rich in flavor and its decently priced. Many paella options too choose from whether its with seafood or chicken, just note that it is priced per serving and a minimum of two orders need to be placed. Even if you decide to skip the appetizers and order paellas, there will be enough food for 2 or more (depending on how hungry you are). Also, make sure to order a glass or a pitcher of red sangria to compliment your meal. Th red sangria is strong enough to get you lightly buzzed, yet without the headache. I highly recommend this restaurant for true authentic Spanish food experience.
I have wanted to eat at Socarrat since it opened 11 years ago, so was happy to finally have the chance last week, however the experience was disappointing. As someone from a Spanish family (from Spain) I was very disappointed in the paella....it was the worst paella I've ever had. First of all, it was very, very dry. Secondly, the seafood had no flavor, and the rice was bland. I not only make paella, I have also eaten it at several restaurants in NY (including La Nacional), as well as over Spain, so am familiar with many different styles. This one was truly awful and also a bit embarrassing, as I had invited a colleague and raved about how truly wonderful paella is. I hope I just hit Socarrat on a bad night and that the paellas are not always like this. Aside from the paella, the atmosphere was lovely and the sangria was good as were the croquetas. The paella we had was the Socarrat, i.e. the house paella. I hope they do better next time. If I return to eat there, I will order the tapas and not a paella!
I have been to Socarrat many times -- my review is based on the collective experience not this one time. Unfortunately, this time the Paella was overcooked and very dry. Not the usual great Paella I have had at Socarrat in the past. The tapas appetizers don't disappoint -- especially the bacon wrapped cheese-stuffed dates. The Paella at $28 per person is a reasonably priced entree for the neighborhood and loaded with shrimp, clams, muscles, sausage and chicken. The staff is attentive and the atmosphere is quite energetic -- if you like quiet romantic restaurants Socarrat is not for you.
Finished dinner and when asked for dessert, told the kitchen was closed. Recipe for an unsatisfying experience. If kitchen NEEDED to close up and go home, server should have told us to order ahead. Experience cut short. Unprofessional.
The food wasn’t great (although I didn’t try the paella), but the service was fine. I have been to a number of tapas restaurants and would say there are better tapas options in NYC for sure.
The food is excellent . The table was not perfectly clean when we were seated. The service is good but not outstanding and they automatically add a service charge to the bill. So beware that you don't accidentally tip on top of the service charge which includes the tip.
The paella we ordered was very dry and salty. We had the same dish in Europe and it was way better. I think It was over priced as well. $58 for 2 people portion.
