Socarrat Paella Bar - Chelsea
Socarrat, the quintessence of the perfect paella and for which the restaurant is named, is the delectable, sensuous crust that forms on the bottom of the paella pan when the liquid is rendered and the rice reaches its peak of succulence. The menu, an authentic array of delicious dishes from the regions of Spain specializing in traditional tapas with an accent on paella and fideua (which substitutes fried noodles for rice) that can be characterized as a true exploration for the palette.

Exquisite menu, great (and warm) outside seating, unobtrusive wait staff. Other than noticing some cars outside the stylish enclosure, we could have been in Madrid!
The service was very good. Hit or miss. The paella this time was mediocre. Their tapas for the most part are good. However some of it was tasteless. This is the second time in two weeks the first time the meal was fabulous. I don’t think I would come here for paella again. He should make it like he did when he was at La Nacional.
The paella was ok not at all that.
I felt like I was sitting in the kitchen. Constant shuffling of the workers back and forth and screaming across the room to each other. It’s just a matter of how the place is designed. Also they kept both doors open so it was basically like eating outdoors. Absolutely freezing. And no heating near us. The paella was good. Wouldn’t recommend for a special occasion.
I had a wonderful time! great food , great wines and proffesional service
They went the extra mile to help celebrate thank you
Great food and service. Their outdoor vibe in the back totally works.
Service staff want the friendliest
I have been to Socarrat Paella Bar a few times but this was my first time during COVID. I never write reviews but felt inclined to as the service, food and ambiance were amazing. I have had some not great dining experiences during the pandemic but Socarrat did an incredible job of making things feel safe. The staff was incredible and the food was unreal/reasonably priced. I will definitely be coming back soon to continue to support!
Very warm and spacious outdoor seating! Perfect for brunch, delicious food.
Great night out and bonus...heated outdoor patio.
Warm and friendly service for a bustling Fri night. Food very good, but I’ll go back for the heat lamps and service alone. Don’t pass on the fried artichokes!
Loved the outdoor heated patio in the back! Great for people with allergies as well as vegetarians. 10/10!!!
Socarrat has the best outdoor space, even on the coldest night of the year. The food , drinks, wine and service are also excellent.
Food is always good. But this COVID time, outstanding sitting was so crazy freezing.
Warm, outdoor dining option with partitions! Felt safe and great food.
Wonderful service food and fun
Always delicious and comfy! Even now, during Covid, very safe and pleasant.
The back patio was warm, covered and felt safe with the setup. The myriad of options allowed us to accommodate vegetarian, pescetarian, and dairy free diners. The roja sangria was not sweet and was fruit forward, a perfect compliment to our meal. Every tapas dish was better than the next but the Calamad La Plancha, Dates, and Croquettes were stand outs. Highly recommend for a friend or date night.
Everything here was delicious! Even the drinks amazing !!
The food and drinks and wine and service were all excellent. And they have one of the best outdoor spaces in town.
Food was very good but our server seemed to be rushing us, I realize there is a 90min limit but there were tables available. He even swapped the drinks from table at the end with a couple of sips left without even asking. Nice place but I probably won't go back.
My goodness! This place is a true GEM! I went here twice; once on a Tuesday night and once on a Friday night on the same week to celebrate my birthday, and I LOVE IT SO MUCH! The first time, I reserved in advance and everything went without a single hiccup! They sat us at our table (for 7), they were always attentive to our needs, the food was delicious, and they have such a warm and cozy heated backyard! The second time there was a glitch with my reservation online, but I called in and they accommodated me and my guests so easily! They gave us such a courteous greeting and made us laugh throughout the whole evening. We ordered so many things in the menu. Tapas is another word for appetizers and their main dish is paella. Paellas are just rice and meat in a Spanish (and delicious) way. We ate the fab and seafood paella and the socarrat paella. I didn’t try the Socarrat paella but my friends thought it was the best one. This will not be the only two times I visit. I completely recommend!
Great atmosphere. Felt safe and warm in their outside courtyard. Service and food were awesome.
I ate here with my mother for brunch. It was great! Quick and attentive service and delicious eggs benedict. My mother loved her avocado toast. I would come here again.
Brunch was amazing. All the food was great, and the bottomless deal was fantastic.
Their backyard outdoor patio was amazing!! And great paella! Comparable to my Spanish experience!
Aways tricky finding outdoor dining that leaves you feeling safe but not frozen. Socarrat was a great find; we sat in the rear patio area and it was so good to be in an environment of people enjoying eating out with friends whilst feeling that the restaurant had done everything to keep us, and them, safe. The food was amazing too!!
Fun atmosphere, nice outdoor dining setup in the back courtyard. Great paella and sangria!
Our large party (>6 ppl) was sat outside in a nicely secluded corner of the backyard patio at our request, given elderly members present. The corner was nice and heated. Granted, we dined relatively early, and arrived right at opening, but our server was impeccable with his attention. The tapas as usual were amazing, and the paella was delicious.
Nice set up but mediocre food
The paella was delicious, and the service was great.
10 years later and Socarrat is still giving me perfection. Even during a pandemic. Thank you for keeping us safe and not lowering the food quality.
Excellent food and service.
Sizzling shrimp, chicken skewers, spanish omelette and paella, all were delicious. We also got a corner table with less obstruction which was great
Angie was our Server, he was outstanding, very attentive.
Great food, super friendly staff
Terrific experience on the patio for NYE. Felt safe and was warm w the heat lamps. Food was delicious and great Cocktails
NYE. Paid $80 for seafood paella for two. Came out partly charred. Wasn’t very much rice. It also wasn’t very flavorful. Lobster was good tho but that’s impossible to mess up. Waiter was fantastic. My date and I were warm under the heater outside. Server kindly gave us champagne to ring in the new year. I just felt that the amount of food and taste wasn’t worth the $170 bill. Sangria was good not great.
We sat out in the back patio on a cold night and was pleasantly surprised how warm it was. They have free standing and overhead heaters which heat up the area and we were able to take our coats off. The service was great, food and drinks delicious, and proper Covid safety precautions, including clear barriers between diners.
it was a bit louder, i wish they put us in the back
a fun place with excellent tapas. Prices are reasonable and service is friendly. didn't try the paella.
