Socarrat Paella Bar - Chelsea
Socarrat, the quintessence of the perfect paella and for which the restaurant is named, is the delectable, sensuous crust that forms on the bottom of the paella pan when the liquid is rendered and the rice reaches its peak of succulence. The menu, an authentic array of delicious dishes from the regions of Spain specializing in traditional tapas with an accent on paella and fideua (which substitutes fried noodles for rice) that can be characterized as a true exploration for the palette.
Socarrat Paella Bar Chelsea's ambiance denotes feelings of warmth, comfort and hospitality. A neighborhood staple with a small, intimate space comprised primarily of one large communal table with bar and smaller communal tables available.
**Please note that all of our tables at the Chelsea location are high tops with stool seating, with a combination of communal and private tables.**

Socarrat is a very authentic Spanish restaurant experience. We shared the Tortilla Espanola and the pan con tomate. Both tasted as we remembered them in Spain. Delicious. We had the seafood paella with mussels and shrimp. Amazing. And we loved how they scraped the pan at the end so we could enjoy the socarrat at the bottom. The service was excellent, too. An authentic meal in an intimate setting.
Great happy hour at the bar.
Always delicious! We were exhausted and celebrating our daughter’s wedding (being over!) and they sent over complimentary sparkling wine. We always order “extra crispy” and the socarrat was delicious. A favorite of ours
The tapas selections were excellent. Good service. Ambiance was lacking. Long rows of high top tables.
Food is the highlight here as well as the service. Not for an intimate gathering.
The signature dish was not great. It was just ok. Very disappointing.
Fabulous paella of the day! Sangria pretty delicious too
10th wedding anniversary. We’ve been coming here for 6yrs and counting. Food and drinks are consistently excellent, along with the wonderful wait staff. Here’s to many more!
Shrimp was over cooked to the point it was mushy... we worked through it. Then we saw two mice hanging out— running bAck and forth across the floor. Nice spot but more than likely wouldn’t go back— super over priced for what you get.
The first time I visited the restaurant I was amazed by the paella served. This time I was disappointed; the rice was too soft (too much broth left) with no flavor and aside for the lobster, the rest of the seafood included in the paella was also flavorless. Not worth the money spent in my opinion.
Just happened upon this place while visiting NYC. Great paella and a really cool vibe, incredible service. If you like paella you can't go wrong with Socartat!
This is absolutely the best Pailella that I have ever had. If you like Pailella, this is the restaurant to eat it in
The place is small and intimate so it is very nice. The food is fantastic. The room was pretty warm for most of the time we were there, but we asked them to adjust the air and they did. Great after work place to go. Not sure it is a date place though.
Our server, Andres, was wonderful. Took the time to make thoughtful recommendations. The server assistants and timing of dishes was on point - for 4 people with wine, water glasses, tapas plates, then paella... a table can feel overcrowded. They did a superb job with keeping things bussed and clean. The food was outstanding. Definitely a little pricey ($100/person with 2 bottles of wine. Plenty of tapas and 2 servings of paella). But a very enjoyable experience. Free dessert was much appreciated and delicious.
Food is pretty good but Service is horrible. I would not recommend going there solely.
Dear Firstfisitnyc, Thank you for taking the time to review your dining experience at Socarrat. We take a lot of pride in what we do and thrive to provide a wonderful overall experience to all of our guests. If possible, please write to email@example.com with time and date you dined with us and details of what made your experience horrible. Looking forward to hearing from you soon. Best wishes, Socarrat Management
Black rice and Socarrat paella were good. Prices steep. Ambiance casual trendy. Small venue all communal table seating.
As always Socarrat never disappoints. The service was great and they never rush us as we like to stagger our dishes so not everything comes out at once.
If you are looking for authentic Spanish food, this is the place to go in Manhattan!
Delicious food, reasonable price (~$30/person for Paella), good drink options as well. Not a huge amount of space, but actually seemed like a good thing because it limited the amount of people and overall amount of noise so that we could converse without having to yell. Was able to get a reservation a few hours out on a Friday night, highly recommended.
The paella was awful! This was a sorry excuse for a restaurant specializing in paella. Just pre-cooked pans of rice with toppings thrown on according to order and heated through. I will never eat here again.
Dear NancyC, Thank you for taking the time to write your review. I am really sorry to hear you didn't enjoy your experience at Socarrat. However, I would like to let you know that we never precook Paellas and we always prepare them from scratch to order, each Paella has different ingredients and cooking methods. This is the reason why our Paellas take between 25-30 minutes to cook. Hopefully we can welcome you any time soon. Best regards, Socarrat Management
The paella is great and ambience is casual. I really enjoyed my dinner.
Fun and vibrant atmosphere, delicious food and great service. Wonderful for a group!
They were amazing and we loved the whole experience.
Good food, attentive service & nice atmosphere. Paella was very good - it was difficult getting everyone to agree (paella was for 2 minimum). Churros were not up to par (too thin & crisp, not enough dough). Drinks were very good
Very good food and nice selection of paella. I would have hoped for more tapas options.
We had never been there before and our waiter was very patient with us while I picked out a bottle of wine I liked. The food was beyond delicious! At the end of the meal we were served a glass of bubbly wine that I loved so much our waiter went out of his way to write the name of it down for me. It was not so loud that you could not hear yourself speak, this is def one of my new fave spots! Highly recommend. Keep up the amazing job! You really made our date night special!
Enjoyed the ambience and amazing food! The wine was absolutely delicious as well! Suggest this lovely spot to everyone who want top notch paella!
overall we had a great experience and would return.
I had a great time there!
Only the paella is worth eating here - and it’ll take longer than the 30 minutes we were quoted (we waited almost an hour)! Best part was, when we checked in on it at around 45 minutes after we ordered it, we were given a condescending answer of “we told you it would take 30 minutes”. The waiter didn’t even check on it with the kitchen! Food is overall pricey for the quality and taste. Overall, you could say date night was ruined (and surprisingly, not by the thunderstorm outside)!
Dear Lilyan T., Thank you for taking the time to review your experience at Socarrat. I am very sorry to hear it didn't live up to your expectations. Please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org further details of your reservation, like date, time and name so I can investigate further to make sure this never happens again. Looking forward to hearing from you. Best regards, Eduardo - General Manager
Very good food, nice atmosphere and the paella is amazing.
Very food place in New York.
Paella was salty and burnt.
Dear TyHy, Thank you for taking the time to write this review. We are deeply sorry to hear about your less than stellar experience at Socarrat Chelsea. The crispy caramelized bottom layer of rice which you refer to as burnt is called "Socarrat" and it is pretty much intentional. It's what gives name to our restaurant and how we have been cooking our Paellas for the last 10 years. Hopefully we can welcome you back any time soon. Best regards, Socarrat Management
The atmosphere, drinks, and service was great. Even the tapas were delicious. Unfortunately as a lover of paella our party of four was disappointed. First, The price on the menu is misleading as you need to buy at least 2 servings of a paella. Next, our paella was over cooked and had no juice at all, the sea food on top was not well seasoned and when the waiter came over eventually to mix it up for us, he scraped up all of the burnt part of the pan which made the remainder of our meal inedible.
Cute restaurant, but would not go for paella.
Dear Mich, Thank you for taking the time to review your experience at Socarrat Chelsea. I am very happy to hear that you enjoyed most of your experience with us. However, I am sorry you didn't like our Paellas. We believe the perfect Paella has that succulent caramelized crispy bottom layer of rice called "socarrat", and we have been cooking our Paellas that way for the last 10 years. Looking forward to welcoming you any time soon. Best regards, Socarrat Management
Food and service was amazing and even brought out an amazing dessert for a birthday! Definitely will be back!
Dear LizC, Thank you for your kind words. We are really pleased you had a wonderful experience at Socarrat Chelsea. Can't wait to have you back with us!! Best regards, Socarrat Management
Small place with only high top tables. Food is just average. Ridiculously expensive.....$19. For a very small margarita! No tapas for less than $15. 2 drinks and 3 tapas for $90. Better places for tapas with great food and better value.
Great food... absolutely recommended. Don’t skip on the starters. Worth the extra money.
Dear DanaR, Thank you for taking the time to write such a wonderful review. We are very happy to hear you enjoyed your dinner at Socarrat Chelsea. Looking forward to welcoming you soon. Best regards, Socarrat Management
I dined here on a Friday afternoon. I had the Sangria which wasn't to die for as many had made it seem. It was sweet but had no kick. I ordered the Octopus w/mashed potatoes. The potatoes were hot and fresh and the octopus was barely to a warmed up temperature. I had the brussel sprouts that were burnt to a crisp and the Carne Paella that was also beyond burnt and dry(and the server came over and touched our food w/o permission and scraps the dish to get all the burnt edges mixed into the meal). The portion for the paella was a pretty small and thin layer compared to other restaurants. My guest and I were one of two tables at the time we sat down and one of four tables by the time we ordered. So the fact that everything was burnt when I know for a fact that there weren't many orders going to the kitchen made it difficult to accept. Instead of being angry patrons we opted to be the silent customers, aka the customers who never return.
I love this place. Always enjoy the food and the ambiance. Recommend this to anyone who is looking for a quiet spot with good food, good spirits and a place to be relaxed and be heard!
Good food, ambience and knowledgeable staff.
The selection of music could be a bit improved with more current Spanish music.
Delicious brunch and great atmosphere
Enjoyed our visit but I wouldn’t recommended for an intimate dinner due to the noise level
