Socarrat, the quintessence of the perfect paella and for which the restaurant is named, is the delectable, sensuous crust that forms on the bottom of the paella pan when the liquid is rendered and the rice reaches its peak of succulence. I love Spain and travel there a lot. This place offers real authentic food, and one of the best. We didn't try paella, concentrating instead on hot tapas - shrimp in a skillet, Galician pulpa and suckling pig. All were hot, made to order and simply oozing with flavors. Totally top notch! Service was efficient, personalized and very friendly. As far as I could tell all servers were native Spaniards. The only minor disappointment was the cheesecake. It was pretty good, fresh, not overly sweet. But it wasn't the famous Basque burnt cheesecake as described. Again, very minor thing. Highly recommend Socarrat Paella Bar, even if I didn't try their paella. But there's always next time.

Paella was nice, one of the better NYC paellas we have had. The waiter, on the other hand, what a PITA. No, you don't aggressively push alcohol on a person who says 'No thank you' first time & happens not to tolerate this. Awkward & unpleasant. The hard sell continued throughout the meal. Our waiter did little to hide his displeasure with our one order tapas, snarled at our ask for a supplementary basket of regular bread, commented on the amount of rice one member of party had spilled on the table, and 'cleaned' the table with a paper napkin leaving a layer of grease to put our elbows into. In spite of the restaurant being all but empty, it took less than 30 seconds from we declined dessert to the check was plunked down on the greasy table. Will not happen again.

The food is still good but not what it used to be... same as many restaurants these days due to the inflation I guess... A big disappointment was a pitcher of the rose sangria we ordered, It came with only few pieces of strawberries. It tasted like just very watery juice. We mentioned to our server but got no reaction....

The chicken had big bones and it was kinda dark so I bit into them. Yuck. But they made a solo portion of paella for me which was nice since my friend cancelled. The fried artichokes were awesome but I’d put the sauce on the side.

One of my favorite restaurants in NYC, I never have a bad experience here. The food is always delicious and the service is always superb. I come here all the time. My favorites are the croquetas, the patatas bravas, an the meat paella. If you want good Spanish food and as authentic as you can get outside of Spain come here. You will for sure enjoy it.

Having dined there in years past, I was very disappointed in Socarrat. The croquetas were delicious. However the pan de tomates was tasteless. Most importantly, we had both the seafood and the carne paellas, and they were terribly disappointing. Both were dry, with tasteless ingredients. The scallops seemed as thpugh they were steamed and then thrown into the mix. The shrimp were dried out. The chicken was dry. In sum, terribly disappointing. Desserts were fine, and I enjoyed the Cafe Bombas—what I know as Vietnamese Coffee. This is all especially sad, since the service was warm and delightful. But I can't go back for that food.

2 people we had 1 paella and 2 tapas, next time we will try a board & some small plates. Plenty of food - left with some paella. Our server confirmed our choices & guided us. Food was very good & reminiscent of food we had in Spain. Enjoyed sitting at high top table. Great dining and look forward to returning

Amazing Paella! We came here from a referral from a coworker and let me say it was one of the best I’ve had! Our prior plans to hang in the area feel through so we decided to eat early and on the walk over was able to change our reservations. We were seated quickly and provided some suggestions of the daily specials. We settled on the spinach croquettes which were really good- I asked if they contained cheese which they do not but do contain dairy which i dont eat and only found out as soon as i bit into one ( so i couldn’t eat anymore but it was really good! my BF happily finished the remainder) we also had the fried artichokes (which were also good but way too much tartar sauce on top and some still had the the outer leaves which are inedible) we had a huge pitcher of the Red Sangria which was also really good and had us sitting for another 30 mins trying to finish it! On to the amazing Langosta paella! Exceptional! Full of seafood and a lobster split on top. It was well seasoned perfectly cooked and deliciously crispy! Also, the portions were huge well worth the price! For dessert we had churros which were the only disappointment at dinner. They were extremely thin and tasted of fried oil. I’m used to a larger version fried but with a soft center.. these were unfortunately not those but everything else was so great bad dessert didn’t matter! I will be returning!

We had a delicious meal with attentive, confident service. This time we had tapas and wine and dessert. Cheesecake was so good my wife ordered a second piece :) Next time we will have more time to enjoy the full paella experience. Glad we found this place and will return. Would be nice if they had a second bathroom, but didn’t have to wait more than a few minutes, so not a big problem.

Socarrat in Chelsea was terrific tonight! I’ve been going to Socarrat for as long as they’ve been open but not been there recently, until this evening. From the delightful hostess singing happily to herself as she worked, to the attentive and warm waiter (who’s been there 15 years), to the busboy who overheard my friend say he liked lemon sorbet then went to ask if the kitchen had any- my experience tonight was exceptional. The Socarrat paella was great, the Brussels sprouts were the best I’ve ever had and the cocktails were perfectly blended. I hope the staff knows how much they added to the experience. Thank you.

Absolutely love this restaurant! Not only the food was amazing but the thing I loved most was the service. Ronaldo was our server, he was very attentive our waters never went past half-way. He was also very kind and made our anniversary so special. I will definitely be going back! We had the Carne paella and it was so fresh and mouthwatering.

We chose to sit outside because it was such a nice night, and because of the rain it was very quiet. Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu and made good recommendations. The server was careful to steer me away from anything that might trigger one of my allergies. The meat paella was great, and I loved the croquetas. Thank you!

The food is always amazing and the service attentive but not overly so. This is a go-to spot for date night for my husband and me! One note ... it does get very warm in the restaurant if you are not right under one of the fans, so come prepared.

I was so sad with this experience; I had great hopes as I have been to the one on the East Side and it was soo much better. We got there a little after 5 and sat at the bar for Happy Hour. The bar was completely empty at that point. The bar tender barely spoke to us and seemed to be bothered that we were at the bar at all. We had three tapas and two drinks and not once were we asked if everything was alright of if we needed something else. We asked for a little more bread for the calamari, which was very good, we were told yes and then it never came. After Happy hour was over, we asked for Camarones al Ajillo and Pan con Tomate. The shrimp were insipid and overcooked, and the bread and tomato was just that bread and tomato, both went basically untouched and again no one asked why. We were never told about the Restaurant week specials and ended up spending more that we would have on 5 tapas, I only saw it when I went to the bathroom. To add insult to injury, when I mentioned the special, the bar tender sent us a flyer with the information. Not coming back to this location. Will travel to east side next time.

We went for the summer restaurant week. Our waiter was wonderful. the sangria was great, appetizers- sizzling shrimp and croquettes, were good. when the paella we ordered came out (Socarrat paella - white fish, chorizo, chicken, cockles, shrimp, mussels, calamari) - all the fish on the top was room temp/cold. Overall, the entire paella was very very fishy, the shrimp had a terrible taste. It was hard to eat but we tried to get through it and understand the flavor… was it poor quality or how the dish should be…? I can’t imagine someone enjoying anything about the fish or their flavors. Overall it’s a nice spot, I had been wanting to go for a while but I left so disappointed. Would likely not go back.
