Socarrat Paella Bar - Chelsea
Socarrat, the quintessence of the perfect paella and for which the restaurant is named, is the delectable, sensuous crust that forms on the bottom of the paella pan when the liquid is rendered and the rice reaches its peak of succulence. The menu, an authentic array of delicious dishes from the regions of Spain specializing in traditional tapas with an accent on paella and fideua (which substitutes fried noodles for rice) that can be characterized as a true exploration for the palette.

Fantastic service and excellent brunch dishes. First time there but will definitely return
Amazing. The staff is just phenomenal
always love this place. the food is divine and the staff is kind and super accommodating. GREAT for large groups or a casual dinner for two. get the arroz negro -- you won't regret it!
I have mixed feelings about my experience, we ordered one salmorejo, bravas, fried artichokes and a veggie paella, which was the main dish.
The salmorejo and the bravas were delicious, they bought me back home to Spain and I really enjoy both of them. The price was a little high, but I paid and ate happily.
The artichokes were my favorite dish, I expected them to be different, but I still loved them, even tho the sauce was a little unusual, I would had use some romesco instead of that mayo.
Finally the paella, in a paella bar I was expecting a real paella that would be the best dish of the night, but it was by far the worst. It was between burned and undercooked. And this is NOT a goot thing, some of the ingredients were either frozen (green peas) or raw (cauliflower) while the rice was burned. Yes, I am a Spaniard so I know what socarrat is, but this was a raw rice mixed with burned one, not crusty. I would even say that the rice was not even the short grain bomba type that the paella requires.
I honestly did not enjoy that dish a bit.
The service were nice and accommodating, but the place was quite crowded so it was hard to talk.
Had a nice experience here for hubby’s birthday. Food was great… had artichoke tapas and beet tapas followed by a carne paella. We cleaned our plates. The only regret is that we didn’t try the sangria because we had already been drinking before arriving at the restaurant.
Been wanting to come here for a while. Went there for brunch and they got me hooked with the first sip of coffee. From there it just got better. Loved everything about it. Next time we’ll do dinner.
Loved the food and the seating options. Recommend sitting indoors if it is too hot out. Wish they had more drink options for the bottomless brunch option. Not really a mimosa or wine drinker at brunch. A bloody mary option would have been nice for people who don't consume a lot of sugar.
Wonderful evening. Book the high top in window and you the best of indoor and outdoor dining.
Just wonderful. Thank you!
Great food and great service. Wonderful 1st experience
Always fantastic! Delicious food and drinks and perfect service!
Great restaurant, outstanding food
Usually a good place but some things were off.
1. Some of the food was cold, particularly the bacon-wrapped dates.
2. I understand that we are still under pandemic guidelines but the table setups are not well thought out. It is actually safer to be at a different table than share a table with strangers with a plastic divider. These are not magical I am literally sitting one foot from a stranger. To make things even worse this particular table is right next to the waiter station while the empty tables are not.
Hopefully next time things are better. Service as always friendly and efficient.
We need music from spain. Sabina , Ana Belen , cigala , serrat. Flamenco Please. Don’t put this country music 😂😂
Amazing food. Highly recommend the octopus. Great service at the bar. A bit hot since they can't turn on the AC yet. But its great to see and feel the city coming back to life again.
Great ambience in the backyard and great service. Most importantly, amazing paella.
We just ordered tapas, and some were not that great. Obviously that’s based on everyone’s different pallet! Tried to use the restroom after finishing paying for my meal and was told no, it’s only for customers... showed my receipt as proof that I ate there.
Anyways, it was a cute restaurant! I’m sure my experience with the service was a one off as it seemed to be a popular place. I also look a little busted so that may have played a part LOL
Overfall, we had a great time. The service (Diego) and the food (Paella Negra) were outstanding.
The restaurant is small and not very COVID friendly. Tables are next to each other in small spaces. The setup outside is too boxy and tables are very close to each other although they have blindex in between. We reserved outside but changed to a more comfortable table inside next to the window.
With a good table, you will have a blast
The seafood paella was definitely on the bland side, with not much socarrat at all, ironically. The wine arrived well after the paella, and only then because had to specifically request it. Definitely a so-so experience.
We were looking for something nice and a bit different for a nice dinner as a family and had seating to accommodate our small dog. Socarrat was an choice. They had a great back patio that was completely covered giving us peace of mind when the weather looked like it was turning bad. The paella takes some time to make so we started with some tapas and wine. The waitstaff was attentive and helpful with recommendations. The choices were all good and while they seemed a bit small at first, it was all very filling. We had the Socarrat paella and it was cooked just right with a nice variety of toppings. While we felt full, we thought we would share a dessert. The flan was good, but not exceptional. The churros with chocolate sauce, however, were great. Perfectly crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. This was the perfect family evening as were shared everything and everyone enjoyed the experience.
Delicious food. Friendly staff. Good brunch deal except there’s very little alcohol in their drinks.
The food came too quickly- and all cold -including the paella
We had an amazing experience! We sat at the bar and our server was great; very attentive, friendly and went above and beyond to help us celebrate my husband’s birthday.
Went here for Mother’s Day and had an excellent experience, from appetizers, we ordered the octopus which was excellent choice and paella socarrat which was on point
great food and wine. paella was really first rate. would gladly repeat.
We enjoy coming to this restaurant. Service is always good very attentive staff. The food is excellent. Sangria is my favorite.
A wonderful Mother's day lunch - service by Andreas was excellent.
The Paella was true to Socarrat's name, seafood perfectly cooked, enjoyed scraping very bit of that caramelized rice. Apps were flavorful and visually appealing, as were the churros and flan finale.
As always amazing food and service. Never disappoints.
This is definitely the go to place for authentic Spanish Tapas/Paella.
A night at Socarrat is always memorable. Many times the vibe is enjoying other patrons who have come to celebrate as wines are poured and people touch glasses. Other times, it's a taste of Spain that we long and find here. Always there's a server and host that treat us like friends. One of my favorite haunts in Manhattan.
The staff, the service, the food, everything was great and we are already looking forward to coming back for more food.
Nice place, good service. The albondigas were excellent. Paella could use a bit more flavor—maybe more chorizo. Otherwise a good experience.
The food and drinks were great and the outdoor seating was comfortable and safe. Would definitely go back.
Outdoor dining. Quite cramped but worth it for that amazing paella.
As always, amazing food and service! Highly recommend!
We were seated outdoors as requested. The menu is straightforward. Everything we ordered was delicious (short rib, pan con tomate, octopus, croquetas, desserts, wine, cocktails, etc.). But the real star was the paella. Glorious. Crispiness everywhere.
Our server was also super helpful and generous. Can't wait to go back.
Always an amazing experience at your wonderful restaurants! I am forever a fan! Keep doing amazing things and wish you the best of luck in your business!
Great ambiance for a date night. Tapas were delicious! The staff was so friendly and personally greeted each guest to welcome them to the restaurant.
The food is always amazing at Socarrat. I thought they did a great job with Covid protocols. I felt very comfortable during my time there.
Glad they have an outdoor space and it woks great. And as always, great food!!
