Socarrat Midtown East Ratings and Reviews
Went to this restaurant for New Year's Eve. The tapas were truly fantastic, we tried about 4, the flavor of each one exploded in my mouth. The paella was good but not as good as I would have expected. I was also not impressed with the sangria. Way too sweet. The other strong positive was the service. The wait staff did everything possible to make sure we had a good time. And that we definitely did!
Absolutely phenomenal! Everything was outstanding from the service to the incredible tastes! The owner himself voluntarily checked every table & assisted with exceptional service, recommendations & personal attention. It’s our new favorite restaurant & we’ll be returning every trip to NYC, which is quite often.
We had an excellent meal. Best paella I've had in NY. It included fresh lobster, which is rare in my experience for paella, but I could tell right away and the Maitre D' confirmed it. Very tasty appetizers. When we anticipated that the noisy bar scene downstairs would disturb us we were immediately offered a quieter upstairs table. Only reservation is that this particular table was opposite the restroom. I'll definitely go back and find a better situated table.
The tapas were terrific but the paella disappointing. Two of us had the chicken paella; two the meat and they tasted and looked almost the same except for the smokier sausage taste in the meat. Their paella has vegetables and meats cubed or chopped into small pieces mixed into rice—boring and tasteless . Service is very good. If I returned it would be for the tapas
Absolutely the worst Spanish restaurant I have ever been in. Beware menu prices are inaccurate Paella is listed as per order when in fact it is per person charge and they will charge you double the listed price as you must order 2 of the same. This is clearly fraud which I wouldn't mind if the food was any good. $72 for a 1.25 lb overcooked lobster with burnt rice --- just plain wrong !!!
Food was great. Six of us got four orders of paella and tapas and still have some leftover paella to take home. First time I tried their karne paella and thought it was just delicious. Also enjoyed the gambas that had a little kick and the brussels sprouts tapas. Try if you havent been there. I will definitely return.
We were attracted to the $25 lunch, but then saw there were more interesting options on the dinner menu and ordered from there. We shared a few of the small plates and then two kinds of paella - one with mixed seafood and one with beef, sausage and chicken. Everything was very good and the service was friendly. The venue is surprisingly small and must get crowded when it isn't warm enough to sit outside. We might try a different location next time.
The rice in the paella was to die for. So full of flavor it was absolutely stunning. Which is why it was so surprising that the lobster was soft and mushy, and the scallops, shrimp and calamari were totally tasteless. The rice had the perfect crunchy crust around the edges and was moist and yummy in the middle. So...I ate the rice and picked out the fish. But $39 is a lot to spend on a dish of rice no matter how yummy it is, when you have to pick out the seafood.
