About Socarrat - Chelsea
Socarrat Paella Bars ambiance denotes feelings of warmth, comfort and hospitality. A neighborhood staple with a small, intimate space comprised primarily of one large communal table with bar and smaller communal tables available.
**Please note that all of our tables at the Chelsea location are high tops and our chairs are without backs.**
Socarrat, the quintessence of the perfect paella and for which the restaurant is named, is the delectable, sensuous crust that forms on the
bottom of the paella pan when the liquid is rendered and the rice reaches its peak of succulence. The menu, an authentic array of delicious dishes from the regions of Spain specializing in traditional tapas with an accent
on paella and fideua (which substitutes fried noodles for rice) that can be characterized as a true exploration for the palette.
Socarrat also offers two dozen tapas, wines by the glass, Spanish desserts, and the best sangria in the city.

Socarrat - Chelsea Ratings and Reviews
I have about 5 years visiting Socarrat for many different occasions, I used to love the restaurant, but that night everything was awful, I don't know if they change the administration but everything was bad. And the lady in the front was really rude to me. I'm sad because I don't think I'm coming back there, I don't recommend this place anymore.
We came here for nye dinner and while the service was wonderful, really friendly and helpful the food was just alright. Definitely not the best paella I've ever had and the apps were good but not great. The atmosphere was nice though, dim lighting and good music.
First time trying the place—considering how people rave about their food, I thought the tapas were better than the paella. Still very pricey for the size of the tapas they were serving. Waiters were friendly, but for some reason the hostesses came off rather a bit standoffish. I would say it's good to get a few drinks with some small bites, but not the most ideal place for a regular dinner.
We were looking for somewhere for dinner before attending the Joyce theatre. Execellent this tapas, cool atmosphere and attentive service. All tapas were amazing, especially the octopus and shrimp. Also, try the cheese plate. We did not try the paella, but it looked very good.
Cozy little place with good atmosphere. Food was yummy. Service was atrocious. The restaurant has high tables with stools that don’t have backs. I had to place my purse on a dirty floor and sit on my coat as no one asked to check it. They left us sitting there for 20 minutes. Then the waiter walked over and just asked, “Know what you want?” He took our order an never looked back. I stopped him to ask what fruit was in the sangria. He explained apples and oranges and then proceeded to walk away without giving me a chance to order a glass. He never asked my husband if he wanted a second drink. He was also rude to the table next to us. When they asked for a recommendation for a moderately priced bottle of wine, he loudly asked them if the just wanted the cheapest bottle. However, half way through our meal a group of tourists walked in and he couldn’t help them enough. He offered to review everything on the menu for them. I would have liked to get 1/4 of that hospitality.

Went here for nye dinner. The staff was great from the very beginning when I made the reservation to the actual night. The cocktails were delicious! The dinner was good but the pasta portion was small for a table of four wit two of the people being men. I ordered the NY strip and was not pleased. It was tough.
The most amazing paella and sangria we’ve ever had! Couldn’t fault the service either - I especially loved how they scrape the paella dish towards the end of your meal so you can get all the leftovers - great touch! Highly recommend the croquettes and bacon wrapped dates for appetisers too.
I had the most wonderful experience at Socarrat. We initially had an issue with our reservation and the staff was so kind and provided us with such wonderful service and complimentary dessert because of the mixup. I don't think I've ever received such thoughtful service from an NYC restaurant before, and that's on top of the amazing food served here!
This was a quaint restaurant. I loved the decor, especially with the simple Christmas lights. All the tables were high tops which I liked, but not conducive for a person with a physical disability.
The service was excellent. There was a huge selection of wines and tapas and paella. The meal was fabulous. We also had Sangria, which was the best I’ve had in years.
I highly recommend the restaurant.
A fun tapas/paella place with very nice service. I've had better ( more authentic) paella, but the tapas dishes were all delicious and the sangria was tasty. Nice Saturday night ambiance - although tables in rear could use a little more lighting and sitting on stools presents a problem for women ( or anyone) with a bag - nowhere to hang them!
Squid ink paella is the best! I eat at Chelsea location about once a month and service is pretty ok. Went today and stood there for awhile waiting for the host to acknowledge us, but she just continued her phone call and never looked up or told us to wait a moment.
