so•ca derives it’s name from several sources: a Peruvian word for sugarcane, a popular style of Caribbean music, and inspiration from a well known geographical divider, the Tropic of Cancer. Located just north of the Equator, this line of latitude divides many countries around the world. so•ca centers its focus on the islands and Americas south of this geographical border (south of the tropic of cancer).
Located on the corner of Oberlin and Clark Ave, so•ca cocina latina brings the flavors of this region to Cameron Village where we share our exotic culinary story seven nights a week during dinner service and on the weekends during brunch. Many of the items on the so•ca menu allow diners to travel to these unfamiliar lands without needing to leave the comforts of the Triangle.

I have wanted to try this place out since it opened and finally got the chance this past weekend. It was crowded outside, and in, when we arrived for an 8pm reservation, we sat outside, near a door that each time it opened blew cold air on our table, not great. We
We ordered drinks, and several small plates. The drinks took over 23 minutes to arrive. The plates arrived more timely but it was visually clear that 1-2 of them had sat around a while and while the others looked ok, they were cold. All but one of them tasted great, the squid dish was terrible - cold, hard, salty, and fishy.
We ordered another round of drinks, this one took even longer to get to the table. Same with the next round which included a glass of wine, a drink that requires no mixing, just a pour - you get it now, the bar was ridiculously slow, or it was our server, it doesn't matter which, service was bad.
We order 2 main dishes, both were outstanding and received in an appropriate amount of time as were the 3 excellent desserts we tried.
All in all, I was disappointed by our experience here. The promise of excellence in food quality was there but the execution, largely due to service, caused it to fall short. The table service from our waiter was average, he was nice and enthusiastic but slow. And table service is really a team effort, or should be, but no one ever helped our waiter. We had piles of dirty dishes sit on our table all night, as countless other employees walked by and looked but kept going.
A restaurant with great reviews and well above average food being dragged down by service is a management problem. Hopefully they can get it fixed. I'll give it another shot some day, maybe we just experienced an unfortunate bad night....
Spent over $400… worst experience I’ve had food took nearly 2 hours to come out. Sides didn’t come out with meal, once sides came out we had already finished eating the meal.
We enjoy SoCa's unique-to-Raleigh menu. While lively, it's not too noisy or overwhelming. Great food and fantastic, friendly service.
Very nice outdoor patio.. Food was okay but for the price point (most entrees more than $30s) I would have hoped for a bit more. Went with 4 native brazilians and none were that impressed with their meals. Also drinks are tasty but tiny for the price!! not sure we will go back. And waiter was really friendly but again, for the price point, I would have expected a bit more. Had to wait to order, had to ask for water refills, etc.
Always great food and great atmosphere! Staff is very friendly. Prices have gone up and selection is a tad more limited, but I'm assuming that is all due to post-Covid issues. Love supporting this establishment who also treats their staff well!
Our daughter just relocated to Raleigh and lives near by. This place was outstanding and we will definitely be back.
Food and service were excellent!
Great food, great service from beginning to end. We all raved about our experience.
We will visit again.
Overall the experience was great. We had three and split 6-7 small plates and it was perfect. Will definitely be coming back!
First time dining here. We had 2 delicious meals. Our server Nick, was very attentive. We will definitely be back.
We have been to Soca twice in the last 30 days and each visit has been impressive. The food is well prepared, tasty and presented very well! Yesterday the Ceviche special and the pork should tapas were a definite hit! The dessert was amazing! However, the most impressive part was the service each time: Knowledgeable, attentive and caring! Kudos to the staff and leadership! Our waitress yesterday reminded us of a younger Meryl Streep! Very nice person!
Amazing - service was impeccable - sharing knowledge and neat history about the food, Joshua was attentive but subtle. We loved it and will be back!!
So ca: Pros: excellent waitstaff and ambiance. It's a fun place to eat.
Cons: very short (3 ea.) white and red wines by the glass, and the wines aren't all that good; food is kind of bland unless they get the sauces right, which I sometimes wonder about. You read about the exciting ingredients, but when you get the plates, it's kind of blah in a lot of cases (not all). I really want to like this place a lot, but the often bland food and short wine-by-the-glass list are problems.
This was a so-so visit to SoCa. Most of the food was very good -- the squid dish was exceptional. But the SoCa salad was downright unpleasant, with chewy dehydrated vegetables. Service was slow, although that was probably because of the kitchen and not the server. We got what we thought was a bad (corked) glass of wine, and it was not handled well --again, probably because of the bartender and not the server. Not our best visit.
Wonderful food during restaurant week! Ben, our server was knowledgeable and attentive. We did the special menu as well as the vegan menu. Will definitely be back!!
As always, the food and service were excellent. The wine selections are also great. Always enjoy so ca.
Our server Maleek was awesome friendly and knowledgeable
All the servers there were great
Always refilling waters
Our chef Eli and Noah were amazing
Knowledgeable and friendly and sent out a few surprise appetizers that were phenomenal
We were celebrating my twins graduation
First time visiting and everyone was professional and courteous
A perfect dinner
We’ll definitely be back and posting kudos to fb
Absolutely fantastic! The food was so flavorful, delicious, and fresh! Service was top-notch. We will definitely be back .... soon!
We were looking for something different and SoCa sounded great. I read some reviews and I found it hard to believe it could be five-star from everyone. But I'm here to tell you the hype is real. This was one of the better meals I've had in a very long time. From the sangria all the way to desert, the food was flawless. The server was also very attentive and had a broad smile every time we saw her. This was our first visit and I've already been telling everyone I know about this wonderful restaurant. Ten stars from me.
We have been six times and have never had a bad experience. I have now tried almost everything on the menu and have never been disappointed.
Birthday for my daughter, we had a large party, So-ca was gracious and accommodating. The food and drinks were delicious! We had a great time!
Amazing food, creative menu, so tasty - incomparable! An amazing composition of spices and aroma wonderfully presented. Service was also remarkable. Enjoyed every bite and every minute.
Tried 4 small and 2 large plates. Everything was really well prepared, presented and sized. Definitely go if you have not. Service was excellent!
5th visit in 3 weeks. love, love, love it here !
Great selection of vegan, vegetarian and seafood/meat dishes. Good prices for Raleigh
Soca never disappoints-great food with lovely presentation-attentive staff and lovely setting!
Food was really good, ambiance very nice and the service was on time and our waiter was very polite.
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful experience !!! Thank you.
Everything was amazing. We tried as much of the menu as we could eat in 1 sitting. Service and pace were perfect and the food and drink were phenomenal! We will definitely be coming back.
SoCa is our favorite place for dinners in Raleigh.
The food and service was good. We arrived about 20 minutes early of our reservation but the staff was able to go ahead and seat us. I had my eye on the scallops because they looked so good coming out but unfortunately they ran out before we were able to order our food. Overall we were pleased with our experience.
All was great. Hostess reception was a little cold and distant. Everything else was very nice.
Fantastic food, unique flavors.
Took my College Daughter and two of her friends along with my wife. All had a great time and the chicken empanadas were great. The watermelon salad was great as well. The hit of the evening was the pork cheek. Incredible
Friendly staff, excellent options for gluten free, food was delicious!
We had a really great time at Soca. The food was excellent, the waiter's recommendations were spot on, and the atmosphere were great. We asked for outdoor seating so we had some noise, which was expected. I'd gladly go back any day.
Fabulous food, unique creations, excellent and knowledgable staff. Definitely in top three in triangle area.
We were outside so ambience there was different than inside...pleasant evening, plenty of traffic going by in Oberlin. Seemed that service was a bit slow...am attributing that to large number of diners even after 8:30 and restaurant being short-handed. Food was tasty as always, complex flavors, well/prepared. Was good to return there.
An excellent dining experience. We have only very few favorite restaurants in Raleigh. They are Herons and Second Empire. Soca is just added to our selective list as the 3rd favorite.
Overall, we enjoyed our dinner. Most of the food was very good. The Curried Cauliflower was missing the smoked Brazil nuts and chili peppers but still tasted good. We sent the Soca76 cocktail back as it tasted a bit off (perhaps old wine or blackberries), but they happily offered something else and didn’t charge us. The Rosemary’s Niño and Little Mendoza were great. Favorite dish was the Empanadas de Huitlacoche. The outdoor dining area was nicely set up and felt very safe. We’ll be back.
