so•ca derives it’s name from several sources: a Peruvian word for sugarcane, a popular style of Caribbean music, and inspiration from a well known geographical divider, the Tropic of Cancer. Located just north of the Equator, this line of latitude divides many countries around the world. so•ca centers its focus on the islands and Americas south of this geographical border (south of the tropic of cancer).
Located on the corner of Oberlin and Clark Ave, so•ca cocina latina brings the flavors of this region to Cameron Village where we share our exotic culinary story seven nights a week during dinner service and on the weekends during brunch. Many of the items on the so•ca menu allow diners to travel to these unfamiliar lands without needing to leave the comforts of the Triangle.
From the appetizers to the desert, the food was amazing. The presentation was exquisite. Great experience!!!!
WOW...what a meal! One of those meals you never forget. What an experience. The food and service we're incredible!!!!!!
The service was great, there were almost no other guests, and the waitress was very patient, even though we were a large group of 15 people. She even split the bill for all of us. The food was delicious, and I would highly recommend the small dishes for sharing. It was a lovely experience, and I would highly recommend. The parking is in the deck under the restaurant, but the signage made it very clear to get to it.
Soca is truly a unique dining experience w amazing dishes that are flavorful and presented beautifully. Most can find something they like, lots of vegetarian options too. Great service....
Always a good meal! The service is attentive. I am amazed at how low the noise level is given the proximity of the tables. It is easy to hold a conversation.
All of the food was delicious; we particularly liked the Salvadoran empanadas (great flavor combo and nice and crispy on the outside), the charred octopus was also delicious. Our server was attentive and there was a nice wine selection by the bottle.
Birthday celebration for 2 NCSU Sophmores. Great service & delicious, unique appetizers, entrees & deserts. Would definitely recommend & plan to go back
I will say one thing. Whoever decided to change the mousse cake is mean. The new one is NOT good. At all. Otherwise I love SoCa so very much.
Very impressed with the variety and flavor of the dishes we selected. We started with the Tuna appetizer, squash soup and Yucca frites. The soup was excellent. Yucca frites were like a good mini-nacho plate. I had the Colombian Pileatas entree which had AMAZING mashed potatoes under the well-cooked beef. Our server was exceptional.
Always enjoy the brunch for knowledgeable wait staff and a refreshing twist to your typical brunch dishes.
Over all a very good experience. Many different new tastes and options. Had the churrasco. It was good but only slightly warm. The veggie empanadas were very tasty.
Waiter was not experienced with drink orders and got them wrong. We made do but it resulted in a less than 5 star rating.
There is amazing food and vibe throughout the whole place. I will day that dishes seem slightly over priced for the portion I got, and that the pictures I saw online seems as if they had a larger serving. Our waiter took a while to serve us everytime but everything was great overall.
Delicious food that was creatively presented. Server was very attentive. Would highly recommend Soca.
Everything we ate was incredible. The empanada special was our favorite! Very fresh and different flavors
Expensive, but tasty!
The food is just incredibly. Our waitress was so kind and attentive, with great suggestions and a friendly demeanor. Thank you!
Great service and food was fresh and flavorful. Got the prawns and asked for their heads to be removed before serving and they accommodated our requests! Sat outside on the patio as it was a beautiful day, but noise from Oberlin Rd was pretty annoying. Not restaurants fault, just should have thought about that before choosing to sit outside. Overall food and service was outstanding.
Great empanadas. Rest of food was average.
Really great menu full of interesting choices. Can’t wait to go back.
Excellent food & service. Started with the empanadas special & pork cheeks with polenta- that was really the star of dinner. My 6 year old son had the strawberry lime Fresca & chicken and rice- he was a huge fan. We will be back!
My boyfriend and I do this tapas style and it truly is to die for. I don't think I ever had a better salad, first of all! The SoCo salad, I don't know how they do it but it was beyond delicious...that pistachio paste! Wanted to lick it off my plate. Very subtle dressing (pineapple vinaigrette but I didn't taste any pineapple). The pork cheeks made the evening. My boyfriend agreed. I also had the octopus escabeche with the bean paste, which was also delicious. My boyfriend had some clam dish with red sauce and his only complaint was they had no bread to soak up the sauce. They really need to provide some bread with that and couldn't even when we requested it. The wines are fabulous. Service is good but not spectacular, but we're there for the food so as long as the service is decent enough we're fine. But this place is great, this is on our regular Saturday night rotation for sure.
Great experience! Would return
Our server was especially great
The restaurant is beautiful. We sat outside, and had a nice view, but we were facing Oberlin Avenue on a Saturday afternoon and it was VERY noisy.
We ordered three small plates for the 2 of us for lunch. The food was sufficient (we are small eaters), but definitely not generous portions,. The larger plates were fairly expensive.
While the food was good, it was quite spicy, and all tasted very similar. Nothing was at all objectionable, but with so many really excellent restaurants in Raleigh, we're not likely to return.
So good the waiter was really nice
The best food that i had in my life
Thanks a lot Samantha. My family are more than happy with your high quality service
Had a lovely brunch with a friend today. I have on my open table profile a list of my food allergies, without asking our server delivered a list of meal options that didn’t include those ingredients. They also offered to check on different options to be modified if that was better for me. The meal was fresh and delicious. The service was attentive and at the same time gave us plenty of time to enjoy the meal and visit. I recommend the restaurant highly and will be back.
I've eaten dinner a couple times at So Ca, and it is really good. This time I went for brunch. It was not as good. I'll go back for dinner, but not brunch.
Incredibly flavorful meal. Gorgeous presentation. Excellent service. Festive, hip ambiance.
SoCa consistently delivers absolutely delicious food. There are so many memorable dishes that you look forward to having every time you visit and other new ones that are well worth adding for a truly memorable meal with friends. The servers are knowledgeable and attentive without being intrusive. Every time we come to Raleigh we look forward to multiple visits to SoCa, and now that we have moved here, the opportunities will only expand.
I didn't really know what to expect out of "latin american fusion", so I had no expectations at all. I was blown away from the very first dish! We ordered eight or so of the small plates. Each one was beautiful in appearance, amazing in taste, and not terribly expensive. Our waiter explained everything so well that I felt like he had probably savored every dish. This is the kind of restaurant where I can't even say what you should try - everything was so incredibly delicious. I am not sure you could make a bad choice!
So Ca does not disappoint. Tuesday’s are wine bottle specials so we had excellent Chilean sparkling rose for half the usual price. The Vegan menu is outstanding and the large plate entrees well seasoned and prepared. Our California houseguests were very impressed.
It is so hard to talk over the noise, however.
This was my third (and final) visit to soca. Tonight my daughter & I were served raw pork chops. We returned them to the kitchen & waited & waited for them to bring them back. When reserved, the waiter told us that “Chef went ahead & made you new orders.” I told him mine was clearly not new because there was a slice off the side that had been either mine or my daughters. No apologies, no visit from the manager. Skip this place: we have so many great restaurants in the Raleigh area!
I thought the service was great. Our waiter was knowledgable and friendly but professional.
The food was Amazing. Everything from appetizer to main course to dessert was perfect.
I've already suggested it to people I work with.
Can't wait to go back.
Good food. Portions are really small.
The food was great and the portions were fulling. The avocado crab dip was okay, but we really enjoyed the lobster fritters. The pork chop entree was huge and the Churrasco was very good. We also had a knowledgeable server - Antonio who was able to navigate us through the menu to make great dinner selections. We enjoyed the ambiance of the restaurant and will return to try other dishes when back in the Raleigh area.
Excellent service, unique offerings and beautiful presentation. Nice to see in the restaurant scene
Truly enjoyed my experience. The food was delicious, very dietary friendly. My ribeye cap was cooked and seasoned perfectly. I would eat here again.
Okay spot for dinner on a Monday night when many really great eateries are closed. Seemed a bit corporate.
It was crazy loud, but food and service (Frankie) were amazing.
