so•ca derives it’s name from several sources: a Peruvian word for sugarcane, a popular style of Caribbean music, and inspiration from a well known geographical divider, the Tropic of Cancer. Located just north of the Equator, this line of latitude divides many countries around the world. so•ca centers its focus on the islands and Americas south of this geographical border (south of the tropic of cancer).
Located on the corner of Oberlin and Clark Ave, so•ca cocina latina brings the flavors of this region to Cameron Village where we share our exotic culinary story seven nights a week during dinner service and on the weekends during brunch. Many of the items on the so•ca menu allow diners to travel to these unfamiliar lands without needing to leave the comforts of the Triangle.
Had a lovely brunch with a friend today. I have on my open table profile a list of my food allergies, without asking our server delivered a list of meal options that didn’t include those ingredients. They also offered to check on different options to be modified if that was better for me. The meal was fresh and delicious. The service was attentive and at the same time gave us plenty of time to enjoy the meal and visit. I recommend the restaurant highly and will be back.
Incredibly flavorful meal. Gorgeous presentation. Excellent service. Festive, hip ambiance.
SoCa consistently delivers absolutely delicious food. There are so many memorable dishes that you look forward to having every time you visit and other new ones that are well worth adding for a truly memorable meal with friends. The servers are knowledgeable and attentive without being intrusive. Every time we come to Raleigh we look forward to multiple visits to SoCa, and now that we have moved here, the opportunities will only expand.
I didn't really know what to expect out of "latin american fusion", so I had no expectations at all. I was blown away from the very first dish! We ordered eight or so of the small plates. Each one was beautiful in appearance, amazing in taste, and not terribly expensive. Our waiter explained everything so well that I felt like he had probably savored every dish. This is the kind of restaurant where I can't even say what you should try - everything was so incredibly delicious. I am not sure you could make a bad choice!
So Ca does not disappoint. Tuesday’s are wine bottle specials so we had excellent Chilean sparkling rose for half the usual price. The Vegan menu is outstanding and the large plate entrees well seasoned and prepared. Our California houseguests were very impressed.
It is so hard to talk over the noise, however.
This was my third (and final) visit to soca. Tonight my daughter & I were served raw pork chops. We returned them to the kitchen & waited & waited for them to bring them back. When reserved, the waiter told us that “Chef went ahead & made you new orders.” I told him mine was clearly not new because there was a slice off the side that had been either mine or my daughters. No apologies, no visit from the manager. Skip this place: we have so many great restaurants in the Raleigh area!
I thought the service was great. Our waiter was knowledgable and friendly but professional.
The food was Amazing. Everything from appetizer to main course to dessert was perfect.
I've already suggested it to people I work with.
Can't wait to go back.
Good food. Portions are really small.
The food was great and the portions were fulling. The avocado crab dip was okay, but we really enjoyed the lobster fritters. The pork chop entree was huge and the Churrasco was very good. We also had a knowledgeable server - Antonio who was able to navigate us through the menu to make great dinner selections. We enjoyed the ambiance of the restaurant and will return to try other dishes when back in the Raleigh area.
Excellent service, unique offerings and beautiful presentation. Nice to see in the restaurant scene
Truly enjoyed my experience. The food was delicious, very dietary friendly. My ribeye cap was cooked and seasoned perfectly. I would eat here again.
Okay spot for dinner on a Monday night when many really great eateries are closed. Seemed a bit corporate.
It was crazy loud, but food and service (Frankie) were amazing.
Great good and nice ambiance. Soca even has vegan and gluten free options! Waiter was friendly and attentive. Loved it! Will go back for sure.
My wife and I ate at soca on a Friday evening, and the restaurant was comfortably full. We had a reservation and were seated immediately, and had a waiter at our table within a couple of minutes. He was very attentive throughout, and seemed to have a very good knowledge of the menu and drinks. We began with a shaved ice daiquiri and Passionida cocktail, both of which were excellent and delivered quickly from the bar. For starters, we shared the Guatemalan shrimp ceviche and the crab stuffed avocado, both of which were light and bursting with flavor. For the main courses, my wife had the pan roasted cod, which was a perfectly cooked, glistening piece of fish accompanied by a mild curry sauce. I had the Churrasco, and the ribeye was an excellent medium rare cook that practically melted in the mouth. The contrast of the bright chimichurri and smooth aioli complimented the beef very well. We were both very satisfied with the quality of the food and the portion size. Overall, the dining experience was excellent from beginning to end, and we will most definitely be returning to soca to contine exploring the interesting and diverse menu.
Amazing dietary restriction menu! Even a delicious gluten free/ dairy free tart for dessert!
The only complaint was that my scallop dish was extremely salty and I tend to go light on the salt. Others at the table didn't think it was as salty as I did. Mofongo was great if you LOVE pork and the lamb empanadas had a bit of spice to them but were quite good. Sorbet selection was stellar. We had a great bubbly server and sat outside so the noise was regarding the cars driving by. I strongly suggest they put up window boxes/ hedge along the small wall for both noise level and aesthetics. Will definitely go again!
Introduced our friends from Cuba and they loved it
Great vibe, excellent food, lovely environs. Will definitely go back when in Raleigh.
Our Waiter John was outstanding. Upon arrival, we were informed that our party was in the private dining area which made the night go very well. John ensured that our water was maintained without having to request. He was able to provide detail information about the menus and choices. The hostess took pictures of the group. She had prior experience. Overall we had a great experience and would recommend it to our friends.
Our server was phenomenal. Attentive, have great personal recommendations of her favorite menu items. The food was delicious.
We had an incredible brunch - great service and amazing food! Loved the Pan de Yuca, Jamaican lamb patties, and churro waffles. The Callaloo fried rice was also delicious. If you like cocktails, try a Rum Diary. The staff were delightful and gave wonderful recommendations. I cannot say enough good things. So glad we gave SoCa a try!
The food was underwhelming. The flavors were bland and poorly seasoned. I celebrated my birthday here and I was expecting greatness and I was disappointed
The server did a wonderful job, but the food was mediocre for the price.
Outstanding as usual. Gazpacho was delicious, Tomahawk pork chop was huge! Sorbet flavors were unusual and yummy!
Excellent food and service. We chose to sample several of the small plates and were very happy with our choices.
Not crowded so waiter was overly attentive and we felt rushed. Interesting menu. The appetizers came out so quickly that it raised questions about what was cooked fresh and what was sitting around waiting for someone to order it.
Delicious food and not too noisy at 6pm on a Sunday evening.
Modern surrounding. Lovely atmosphere. Waitress was very good at explaining menu (spices used) and very pleasant. Food was outstanding. I rarely order dessert, but on this occasion it was well worth doing so! We will def5be going back.
Loved the small plates to share and ability to try many things. Pork cheeks and shrimp ceviche were amazing.
Great service and food!!
This is my new favorite Raleigh restaurant. Love that they have so many dishes that are light and full of yummy and healthy ingredients. I did not give this restaurant five stars, because I almost never give a restaurant five stars, but this is a great restaurant with delightful atmosphere and top-notch servers.
The food was excellent we started with the crab stuffed avocado and lobster fritter they were good the fritter was a little over cooked but still good. For an entree the Pollo was fantastic and seasoned perfectly the short ribs were good. The best part of the meal was the ice shaved daiquiri! I will return again with friends.
We had a reservation for a large party. The table was ready for us upon arrival. Our server was excellent. He spent time explaining the menu and quickly handled the service for the entire group. Everyone enjoyed the dinner with a large sampling of the menu including some dessert and coffee at the end with nary a complaint. Excellent evening!
Food and service were amazing!
GREAT food, a bit pricey, not too crowded, excellent customer service!
The place was pretty noisy, so we asked for a table in a more quiet location. I don't think the waiter was too happy about that as he had a bad attitude the entire evening. The drinks we ordered were pretty bad, but the main entrees were almost good enough to make us forget how bad they were.
My wife and I dined at SoCa in late August 2019, and we ate outside on the patio. It was an absolutely phenomenal dinner; the food was amazing and we appreciated the variety of South American wines featured on the menu. The service was additionally fantastic; our waiter couldn’t have been more knowledgeable on the menu.
Unique interpretation on classic Latin dishes. Lots of original dishes as well. Enjoyed everything we tried.
The food at Soca had amazing flavor! The overall experience was welcoming with a sophisticated flare.
Interesting menu choices. Nice ambience spoiled by excessive noise level. Energetic waiter who provided almost too much information. Food itself was tasty though portions were small, and arrived cold. For $26 I’d expect more than 3 medium sized scallops as an entree. I don’t plan to rush back.
