Created by highly acclaimed Top Chef Season 18 Contestant and "2020 Chefs to Watch" Chef Nelson German, Sobre Mesa is a chef-driven Afro-Latin cocktail lounge in Oakland featuring lively Latin music, lush surroundings and tropical refined libations inspired by German's Dominican roots and African ancestry. Upon arriving 5 minutes before my reservation I was told at the front desk I had to wait until the other person in my party show up to be seating. So they made me stand at the bar for some odd reason. After what seem like 40 mins being seated I was told we had leave and close the tab for other future reservations. I just thought all of that was odd and strange.

Friends came to town, and we hit up Sobre Mesa. What a great experience. All the food we ordered was outstanding (from tostones to the lobster dish and everything in between). The accompanying signature cocktails and spirits was also fabulous along with the presentation. Finallly, the service was over the top personal and welcoming. Even received a personal note after our visit for that special final touch. I HIGHLY recommend a visit to the best bar/lounge in Oakland. Cheers!

They were out of several dishes due to busy traffic the day before, but everything we did have was delicious, and it’s a really beautiful atmosphere.

We were charged for food and drinks that we didn't order. The server admitted the error and was nice, but when the issue was addressed by manager he provided no resolution. The manager/owner was clesrly upset towards us, and could care less about properly addressing the issue. The manager/owner mentioned a personal issue he was going through as if that warranted his bad behavior.

Absolutely spectacular service, in a stunning space. We ate the most delicious empanadas! They were out of the bone marrow, but we’ll be back to try it!

The food was very tasty and impactful, loved the different flavor profile. Cocktails were delicious and used many specialty ingredients. The Chan Chan, even though it is exotic in flavors, was pleasantly food-friendly as well and complimented my meal perfectly. Bar tender greetings were warm and friendly, wait staff was sweet and inviting. Will definitely go back.

Came here for dinner & drinks and it was incredible. We ordered around 10 dishes between 4 of us to try everything out and loved all but one. It was good but gosh the rest we could have ordered more of. The drinks we had were wonderful, tasteful, bright and fun. They do not seat you until everyone in the party is there FYI but there was open space at the bar so we grabbed drinks there and waited. Hands down would return again and I want to come back once they open up their roof top like they will be doing for the Labor Day Weekend party.

I have been wanting to go to Sobre Mesa for quite a few months, and I finally made it there! What an incredible restaurant. The atmosphere is amazing, as well as the food. The restaurant just serves tapas, but with incredible choices to choose from. The drink list is off the hook as well! Thank you to bartender Jay and everyone that works there making this experience for my friend and I Amazing! I will definitely be back.

Delicious inventive food and a beautiful presentation for all of the fun cocktails and mocktails. Favs are bone marrow and oysters, el alma cocktail is yummy!

Where do I begin? If you’re looking for a place with immaculate vibes, unique neon jungle decor, flavorful Latin food, and tasty cocktails… Sobre Mesa is the spot. Last night we had an amazing experience there and the service was stellar. Would absolutely come here again. If I lived closer, I would definitely be a regular.

I’m very happy to have chosen Sobre Mesa as my birthday venue this year. The food was delicious, drinks were amazing, and the service was exceptional. I have no complaints. The ambience was great. I felt like I was in Miami. The interior and design was so beautiful. Great vibes overall.

We came from an afternoon performance at Berkeley Rep so we arrived right at 5:00. We were the first diners so we got great service! The over the table old fashioneds were excellent! We had the gambas e tomatillo, roasted pork spare ribs, chiccarones de pollo, bistek empanadas & a side of maduro. All were excellent. The chiccarones were our favorite! For dessert we had peaches and cream and the masa cake. We added a scoop of ice cream to the cake because it was a little dry otherwise. Excellent food, lively music and friendly service make Sobre Mesa one of our favorites!

We waited 10minutes to be greeted at our table. The drinks took over 15 minutes to come out - just the overall service was bad. We won’t be returning especially with all the choices of so many great establishments in Oakland. The decor was beautiful, host was pleasant and vibe was great.

Food is great - service was mediocre at best. The girl at the door was the friendliest. Seating area was horrible - I asked to move and no accommodations were made even after 3 tables were available for over 10 minutes. Had to ask for my check 3 times before having to get up and find someone. I’ll be back though - the owner Nelson is great and the bartenders are cool. I won’t be bringing anymore friends or dates to come eat though.

We were so overwhelmed with what we were going to choose because literally every menu item looked appetizing. Our wonderful waitress proposed she set up a meal for us, and she did not disappoint. Really just a wonderful meal with hummus, fried goat cheese balls, stuffed maduros (out of this world delicious with the soy chorizo and peppers), and the outstanding bone marrow finale. 10/10 experience and sorry for forgetting our brilliant waitress’ name!
