traditional home style goodness
I ordered the brisket tacos and they were just so blah....just meat on a tortilla and a few onions and cilantro thrown on the side. I had to ask for some type of salsa to make them edible, Chohula was all they had. Disappointed with the food, ambience is great however!
O n 9/26/2020 my fiancé and I were celebrating what would’ve been our wedding day. But thanks to covid it had to be postponed. From a friend’s recommendation we happened to make a reservation at Smoky Rose. Our reservation was at 7:15 but due to traffic we showed up a little late. The host was more than understanding and accommodating. There was a bit of a wait passed her quoted time and our reservation time but that’s to be expected on a Saturday night. It was clearly very busy and obvious that everyone already at a table was thoroughly enjoying their time. We got 2 drinks from the bar, the bartender was great. We found seats on the patio chairs and enjoyed listening to Tauvy play. A short time later, we received a text that our table was ready. We were seated in the center of the grassy area. The lights woven through the trees twinkling above us, children playing corn hole, families and friends laughing, and a few dogs barking. It was a perfect night. Our server Lisa was amazing. She seemed a little new but her energy and service was top notch. We decided to share the meat plate that serves 2-4 people and a few sides. Holy moly! That platter was huge, we joked that it was a charcuterie board for men. We also accompanied that entree with mashed potatoes, baked beans and a Cesar salad all to share, our only problem was the table wasn’t big enough for all this food. We ended up taking home 2 large to go boxes, 1 small box and container for our bbq sauce. It was by far way too much food for 2 people but it was all so tasty. We have enough leftovers for a few days. We loved the vibe of this place, the food, and the service from all the staff. Also give 2 thumbs up to the BOH, food was tasty and well presented!
Loved this place! Great food, drinks and atmosphere!
I made a reservation for 12:00, and the first issue I had was with parking. It took forever to even get into the lot. After arriving early for my reservation, we got seated fairly quickly, and it was before 12. We sat at the table for over 20 minutes, and nobody came to the table even once. Needless to say, we left without them having even come to take our drink order.
The food was amazing, the ambiance was amazing and Nina our waitress was kind and patient. We tried a few of the appetizers and we were very satisfied.
This is not my first time at The Smokey Rose but it was by far the worst. It took forever for the waitress to take our order... we had a party of 5. It took 45 minutes to get our food and if was cold...not even luke warm... cold. They did take it back and bring back warm food....not hot, but warm.
we loved the outdoor space. The waitress was fun and friendly. The food was not very good.
Chicken fried brisket was Miquelon and delicious. Had the sliced brisket and ribs. Collard greens were salty but good. Fried okra was not hot but also good.
Pecan Pie was good.
Very personable service on a great patio!
The outdoor patio was beautiful and relaxing. We had a table of 6 adults, all enjoying cocktails. The manager had to get our refills twice and multiple times, we sat with empty glasses. We had the happy hour deviled eggs and wings. Both I would order again. Two in our party had the chicken fried brisket. That was decent for the price as well. However, the sauce used both on the brisket and on the salmon was extremely salty making it almost inedible. I have written off the slow drink service to Covid. I will try this restaurant again but the tab was over $350 for six adults: happy hour, cocktails, dinner, and appetizers. That was a good amount of money before tipping so I would have expected better service. We are willing to give it another try in hopes of better service and improved sauces next time.
We chose Smoky Rose because of the patio. It’s very nice, covered and large. I thought the bbq was too dry and flavorless, and my sandwich was cold. The sauce helped. The fries tasted like something out of a bag. Mediocre service. Had to ask repeatedly for water, utensils, etc. Expensive for what you get. As much as I liked the patio I won’t return.
Service was slow to get started but was ok once we had our server. Valet was a JOKE. They need to have an overflow agreement with the arboretum at least for a few hours during the peak of brunch.
This was my first time at Smoky Rose. I made a reservation for 11:15am, arrived on time, checked in with the hostess and was told it would be a few minutes. After waiting almost 10 minutes with many people seated before us (that arrived after us), the same hostess came over and asked to put our names on the waiting list. I reminded her she just checked us in and she then went to prepare a table for us.
Our waitress was attentive throughout our brunch. The love music was great and Smoky Rose has a great patio!
The only other thing that bothered me was the valet parking during COVID-19 pandemic. Perhaps there is another parking lot for customers that I missed. I understand the need for valet if that is the only lot as it is extremely busy.
Overall, good experience at Smoky Rose.
Loved our experience on the patio! The food and drinks were amazing...I love that the Frozen Blackberry drink isn't very sweet. The music was a little loud but then the guitar player started and the noise level was perfect!
I want to start by saying overall the night was great. The weather on Saturday was beautiful and so everyone and their mama was out to enjoy it. My parents and I had reservations for 7:15pm for 4 people and it took a good :30-:45 before our table was ready. This was my parents first time dining out since Covid so it was pretty discouraging to have to wait that long. I do not think reservations carry much weight over walk ups with the restaurant staff. The host & hostess were completely in the weeds and were so flustered. Once we were sat the service was great! Our server was friendly and our food came out fast and was delicious as always! The restaurant was PACKED and even though the open air patio and outdoor space is expansive a large chunk is under construction and un-seatable for guests. Most of the staff and guests observed the mask recommendation but the neighboring table of patrons is within arms length. If you are skeptical to venture out this is not the place for you.
Food took a long time and came out cold.
Great service and food. We enjoyed the singer as well.
Service was excellent. Outdoor patio is a great place to be during Covid-19. I would recommend that they not allow people to bring their pets to the restaurant though. I think it breaks several several food safety codes.
Overall it was a great experience, but the service was very slow. We were there to celebrate a birthday, & it took so long for our server to come back that we decided to skip the birthday dessert cause it had gotten so late which was a bummer. The restaurant was awesome though, the food was really good, & it has a great ambiance.
Tables were well spaced out. Not a very busy time but we were very comfortable with the COVID precautions.
Great food and great service and great music I will come back again.
Our visit to Smoky Rose won't be our last! What a pleasant surprise! From the convenient valet parking to the attentive staff, we had such a great experience here. We had a group of 6 and had a table reserved on the patio. Did not realize they also had live music - was an unexpected surprise. Manager stopped by to check on us a couple of times and after he saw that my purse had slipped off of the round backed chairs, he offered to bring me a chair to set my purse on (and it's not really that kind of a place!) Our server, Penny, was awesome. Gave us great advice about the menu and was on top of our needs all night. The food was delicious. We ordered yummy burnt ends, brisket tacos, pork BBQ, ribs and everything was spot on! Drinks were poured well! We will definitely be back!
Took forever to get our food. Waitstaff was really slow.
Family get together
Great salads, turkey and brisket were excellent. Very nice outdoor seating. The construction in the unused part of the restaurant was an eyesore if seated with it directly in sight. Overall, fantastic food, looking forward to trying the chips and queso on our next visit. I saw everyone ordering it!
Absolutely great! Mix of BBQ & Tex Mex! You must get the brisket queso
Ambiance and drinks were great. There was live music and the patio was nice and socially distanced. The food..was awful. Brisket was incredibly dry and flavorless. Would come back for drinks only!
The service was terrible and the food was cold when we received it. Anyone who ordered a sandwich had extremely soggy bread and it was impossible to order another drink. It took over an hour to get our meals after we ordered. The waitress was also not being careful with not putting her hands all over the silverware as well as the water pitcher touching the rims of the glasses when refilling (when we were finally able to get a refill). Overall very disappointed.
We waited for our food over an hour! I had to go find someone to wait on us after waiting 1o mins. in the hot sun! Food was good when we finally got served. Will I return? Don't know.
Great restaurant, service was really bad.
Ambient outdoor dining! Great service!
We’ll go back often.
This place is great - different food offerings - different drinks
Good service. Great atmosphere. I had a big party and my server was so accommodating and kind. We had so much fun and it was nice to just get out and enjoy life. Food and drinks were amazing. all-around great place. I'm obsessed with the brisket quesadillas I will definitely be going back and recommending it to everyone I know.
This was my second visit to Smoky Rose. First time, great. Second time, forgettable. The inside of the restaurant was closed, that should have been disclosed when I booked the restaurant, so outdoor dining is the only option. It was decent evening, so no harm, no foul.
Our waiter, Arturo, tried as best he could to attend to our table, but it seems the restaurant is short staffed. We ordered appetizers, dinner and dessert, plus drinks. The appetizers, deviled eggs and brisket quest were good. All entrees, buer Blanc chicken, spinach salad, Lizzy’s salad and brisket tacos were not good. Salads were over dressed and soggy. My tacos had multi day old brisket in them and were dry and flavorless. The Dr. Pepper cake was good and peach cobbler with ice cream was flavorless.
I was never so happy to pay the bill and turn the page on the Smoky Rose. I think they can and should do better Covid or no Covid.
The atmosphere was great. Cool spot with lots of patio space. Deviled eggs were delicious. Our server Steven was awesome. Very attentive. I will be returning soon.
The food and drinks were so delicious as always! Absolutely love this restaurant!
Nice touch to give my wife a free dessert for her birthday that day!
We have come here the past 3 years for our wedding anniversary and it is our favorite place in Dallas to eat! The food is just amazing and the service is as well!
Can't believe this was my first time to try this place! Will be back often!
My wife had come before with her god mother and told me that we needed to go. COVID-19 prevented us from coming earlier. With 85% of the restaurant being patio style we felt comfortable. Food was great and ambiance was better.
poor service. Waitress was not present and forgot to put some of our items in when we ordered so we ended up having over a 2 hour dinner.
