This evening my wife and I went for our Anniversary dinner. The service was some of the best we have ever encountered. Our server Travis was fantastic - his demeanor and attitude were beyond expectations and he ensured we were properly accommodated.

The service alone was sufficient for us to return but the food was phenomenal and only made the experience better. We ordered multiple dishes: albóndigas, Paella Tinta, and Mejillones, among others. All were phenomenal and reminiscent of visits to Barcelona. We will certainly be going back.

they can't handle all the tables. it's a small place and it's busy every night (per managers there) but they are not staffed to handle the crowd. we were there almost an hour before we got bread. and it was literally 2 pieces of toast with nothing to dip it in. 20 minutes after ordering a bottle of wine they realized they didn't have any left. One and Done for this place.

I agree with the review below. I was there Saturday the 15th of October and service was bad. They couldn't keep up with the tables. We had about 5 people waiting on us. We were told service was slow because we decided not to share plates (not true) at the beginning of the meal the waiter tried to tell me all the red wine he didn't have. I told him I really couldn't hear him and I may not remember so maybe I could ask him later if I wanted a red. He ignored me. Then he told me I canceled my octopus to get an egg dish. That was not true.

We had an extremely enjoyable experience at smoke.oil.salt. The food was amazing. The tapas are all shareable plates. This allowed us to taste many different dishes. They helped us with our wine choice. The wine was spectacular. Beronia was the name. In fact, we had four bottles between the four of us. We were shocked when we realized that we had been there for four hours. Not once did our server make us feel as though we needed to leave to turn the table. It's a very small place so definitely make reservations. The entire experience felt much like the high end tapas bars we visited in Barcelona last year. I highly recommend!!

Had a lovely evening here with some friends this past weekend. We had great service accompanied by many small dishes of deliciousness. The fried chicken dish was definitely a stand out.

The food was underwhelming and overpriced. The quality was atrocious. We had a 7:30 reservation and were one of only TWO couples there. And no one came in while we were there. Four patrons in 90 minutes. Steer clear of this place. I doubt it will be around much longer anyway.

We don't feel like we want to come back for food, service, drinks or ambiance. When seeking a recommendation, a response, "Everything is good. That's why we are here." The charcuteria was good but the seafood items tasted and smelled like they had been sitting out for days. The wine and cocktail list were less than palpable and the service was inconsistent.

What happened to this place? It used to be a real gem worthy of your time money and efforts. On this visit it was so thoroughly mediocre it bore no resemblance to the place we used to love. One more time LA fails to maintain quality at restaurants that start out so well.

Each dish we tried was delectable, especially the "elotes asado" street corn. It was so good that we couldn't resist ordering another. The "charcuteria de iberia" was awesome as well and great to nibble on throughout the meal. I also loved the pictures of Dali on the walls, as he is my favorite artist! I would definitely come back here –– there were so many things on the menu I want to try!

Pro tip: There are two sides to the restaurant each with different menus. Sitting on one side, you cannot order items from the other. So if you are placing reservations, make sure to look at the menus and specify which side you want.

Everything was Delicious!!! The scallops and octopus are my favorites. The scallops seem to have shrunk a bit from my last visits and not as amazing, but still great.

great food at the restaurant. however, the hostess was SO RUDE and the service was SO SLOW. upon arriving at the restaurant and noticing the very narrow waiting area that was on top of people's dining tables, i moved behind the host desk by the bar as to not disturb the patrons. the hostess came over to rudely tell me to stand on the other side of the hostess desk because that was MY PLACE TO STAND and felt the need to assertively say how the side i was standing on was HIS PLACE TO STAND. Had there been adequate room in the waiting area, I would have never stood behind the very compact podium for his host duties. needless to say, the whole exchange was completely unwarranted regardless. it really set us off on a bad tone although the food was good. the crema catalana was delicious. lastly, the waiter took so long to take our order and bring us the food despite an empty restaurant. he also seemed to forget about us a couple of times too.

Underwhelmed. Won't return. Service wasn't great. There was a menu for the back room which was more comfortable but a proper dinner menu for the front of the house which was small and cramped. The music was too loud and inappropriate. The poor waiter was trying But just not a good server. I was very disappointed overall and will not return.

Tried this place out after seeing the menu for DINELA. I'd heard great things, so I was excited to check it out. Our server seemed to try and talk us out of the DINELA menu, but my friend and I agreed to try it anyway, as that's what we came for.
The food was pretty decent, but nothing wildly inventive. But the portions were so tiny. I'm aware that it's a tapas restaurant, but you figure with a set dinner and additional plate added on, we'd be pretty full. We were not.
For $150 bucks for the set price menu, plus 2 glasses of wine and one additional tapas item, I feel like this was absolutely not worth it. I even had to eat 3 hours later.

We went for DineLA but didn't eat from the special menu as their regular menu looked so good. The wine list has so many luscious imported wines to try which I love and that brought up the tab, but was well worth it. The only dish I didn't enjoy was the gazpacho as it was so spicy it burned by tongue and I wasn't expecting that even though the flavor was good. Everything else was exceptional. Travis our server was fantastic and I enjoyed all of our tapas all the way to our custard w/ ice cream for dessert. Great place in the spot vacated by Evan Kleinman's old restaurant which I used to enjoy. I will be back for sure!!

Food was delicious but our server was clearly overwhelmed. Timing of food was poor and it was often difficult to get the server's attention for drinks and additional orders. It was extremely loud inside the restaurant so it's not great if you want to have a conversation with a large group.

The tapas were tasty but the experience wasn't the greatest since this restaurant is located right on Melrose. We were seated near the opened window and all the street noise came in. It was a hot, muggy day in LA with hardly any breeze, so it would have been nice to have AC. Food was good, especially the special paella but the flies that were buzzing about brought down the ambiance level a touch more.

There were a couple of tasty dishes certainly, though nothing exceptional. The service was pretty poor- never checked on us, never even smiled, we had to track her down for more wine, the music was incredibly loud, no a/c or circulation on a stuffy hot summer night with windows open so you could get a whiff of the cigarette smoke from smokers outside, the manager was very brusque ( do NOT ask to sample wines to make a decision, even when your server seems mystified by your questions about the wine selections) and overall I doubt highly I would return. Also there is no need for blaring music to overpower dining conversation- I was straining to hear a lot of the night. There are far better options out there, especially for the prices, which appear to be less tapas-based, more entree-based.

Fantastic! Great atmosphere. The meal was absolutely delicious and our server Travis lead us through it perfectly, recommending some of the most delicious dishes and perfect wines. Will definitely be going back again.

The food was great and the service was good until the bill came :) There seemed to be a LOT of confusion over a suspiciously expensive bottle of wine that 'appeared' on our bill. This was in addition to the bottle of wine that we did order that showed up $10 more that what was written on the menu that we ordered from.

The server told us the additional bottle was a mistake due to some 'computer glitches' that were happening. Then the general manager came over to inform us that the bottle of wine that we had ordered was indeed $90 not $80 as we had seen on our menu. When we pushed back, they figured out that the server had keyed in and served us the wrong wine. They made it right and we were only charged for the wine we ordered. All in all, we made sure the bill was accurate but the whole incident just didn't sit right with me. The server admitted it was his first night but honestly the way they handled the whole situation was a little shady. It was very strange that an expensive bottle of wine 'appeared' on our bill and no one really apologized or took responsibility for the error. This seems out of character for a place that is seemingly on the higher end of dining.

Our experience at this creative Spanish Tapas was exceptional. All 6 who ate felt the same way because we shared the choices on the menu. The anchovies with olives and marcona almonds was OK, the cauliflower, yellowtail, frittata, patatas bravas, fried chicken (pollo frito) and the tortilla espanola were unique and outstanding. The paella with a fried egg on top very different and not typically paella but was an interesting twist. Their cocktails and beer are average and could do with a better mixologist. The lack of non carbonated, soft drinks is a disadvantage-they could have created a sangria with and without alcohol which would have greatly complimented our meal. We had an energetic and personable waitress Jessica who made a difference to our evening. The ambience was great, simple and accessible, with the Dali on a brick wall and red back drop walls-created a pseudo-artsy-Spanish ambience.
