Not only was the special Valentine's day menu delicious, but we were lucky enough to catch a 50% off sale on bottles of wine from their expansive selection! Fast, courteous service. This was our second visit, and we plan to return.
Must have dinner experience! Just go!
Food was excellent and service was wonderful. Staff was very attentive and personable.
a real delight.go back to mid 19th century.wood butnonh fireplace.treated like family by waiter and sommelier.spectacular wine list from which we enjoyed a 2015 gevry. chambertin.entrees were filet, dick breast and salmon well prepared, served, and tasted.thouroughly pleasant evening.
Truly a dining experience like no other. From the warm greeting soon as we entered the house to the sincere good bye from Sara, our waiter everything in between (food and wine) was exceptional! We are already planning our next trip! Highly recommended for foodies who appreciate a relaxing and romantic dining experience.
Worth the travel in snowy/uncertain weather. Excellent service, excellent food, great atmosphere!!
Roaring fire and piano music in the background made it even more special.
My husband and I are so glad we discovered Antrim 1844 and the Smoke House Restaurant. Everything about the experience was outstanding. The service was impeccable. We especially appreciated Sarah's outstanding knowledge and service related to wines. Every course was a delight, the only problem being making choices for each! We are already thinking about when we can make the drive back north to experience the Smoke House again.
Our table was in the Smoke House and it definitely lived up to its name. They used wet wood in the fireplace and it was smoking something aweful. Different waiters kept coming over to add wood/move the wood to try to get it to burn better but nothing helped. All I smelled was smoke which made my sinuses all stuffed up. Did enjoy the ambiance but will not go back.
Beautiful place and excellent food. This is a dining experience with cocktails and passed appetizers before being seated by a wood burning fire place to enjoy our wine paired to each course meal. The wines were wonderful with the choices we each made.
Amazing experience that took the worlds troubles away from the moment we entered the door.
This was our first time here and we were very impressed! The people were so nice and totally took care of us from start to finish. We were there for over four hours so don’t go if you are in a hurry. Ambiance was truly marvelous as well. Food was out of sight wonderful. Quiet refined excellence! We can highly recommend.
Excellent evening with outstanding service! We will definitely be back again!
A very pleasant experience. The food is good and the service is fantastic. A bit expensive but you are paying for atmosphere as well.
The service and the food are excellent. The atmosphere, especially at the holidays, is festive and upscale. Always a special treat.
Had such a lovely anniversary dinner with my husband. The wait staff and food were amazing. The building and decorations were beautiful. Be prepared to take your time.
Outstanding food and service. The restaurant is a must see during the holidays as it’s beautifully decorated. We will definitely return.
The Smokehouse Restaurant at Antrim 1844 was more than dinner, it was an experience. On the backdrop of a beautiful historic mansion, we started our dinner in the "drawing room" for cocktails and hors-d'oeuvres with paintings and history to stimulate the conversation. Following, we were escorted to our seat near the fire and presented with "personalized" menus and the most extensive wine list I have ever seen. Our server was extremely knowledgeable and helpful in finding a great wine to go with our meal. The meal itself was 5 star quality and the ambiance made it all the better. As a bonus, we were invited to the wine cellar for a tour of their collection of over 24,000 bottles, "the largest in the area." My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and plan to return at least a couple times per year.
it was disappointing, read the prior reviews and expected more, food was lukewarm when served and drinks watered down, ambiance and service were very nice but it was let down by the food, almost like they were living off their former great reviews and are coasting
found by accident using google search, then took a look at tripadvisor.. place is well liked. Wife and I made reservation a week ahead of time but could have likely made reservation closer tot he date desired. The 30 minute wind down in the parlor with cocktails and trays of finger foods presented by the staff were a nice touch. 6 course meal with a few decisions available for the entrees were nicely spaced out, took nearly 3 hours. 20,000 bottle wine cellar. with about 3 drinks each came to approx $100 per person for the night. Pork Belly appetizer was like butter and delicious. Another treat was the Menu was printed with our name and a happy anniversary message on it. We Will be back!!
This was an amazing evening. The service was impeccable, from being greeted at the door and having my coat taken, to all the different servers who stopped at my table to inquire about my evening. The food was delicious (is there a word stronger than delicious?) right from the appetizers (served in one of the parlors) through to the post-dessert treat. The butternut squash soup was from heaven and made me consider asking for a free refill. The atmosphere was quiet and romantic with dinner served in a brick-lined room with a large fireplace. The table setting was immaculate with more flatware and glasses than I have ever used at one meal. I highly recommend experiencing Smokehouse Restaurant, as long as you are aware of the price. This was truly a night to remember for me. If you are in the area, add this to your list of things to do.
We absolutely love staying at Antrim 1844, and we always have dinner at the Smokehouse Restaurant. Service is always impeccable and welcoming. It's definitely a top notch experience overall. The sommeliers are always super helpful and knowledgeable, and make great suggestions you probably wouldn't have otherwise tried. We love to visit in the later fall and winter when there is an abundance of roaring fireplaces; the ambience is incredible. The live piano player is also fantastic, and while it brings the overall sound level in the dining area up in volume, it perfectly drowns out your neighbor's conversations and allows you to feel like you're having a private conversation. If anything is ever not cooked to your liking, they are super apologetic and very quick to remedy the situation. We typically choose alternating courses so that we can share everything/try more things. One of us always gets the steak, and it has never disappointed! And the pastry chef really knows what she's doing. We were just there this weekend and I definitely had what is now one of my all time top 5 desserts – so, so good (will have to feebly attempt to recreate it at home)! We're about an hour's drive from Antrim/Smokehouse, but it's well worth the trip for a relaxing overnight and a fabulous meal. Highly recommend!
Visited during Gettysburg College Family weekend. Nice for a group of 10!
we celebrated our 23 year wedding anniversary. we loved our special night.
This was our first time here. It was a treat to experience formal dining in a manner that harkens back to the 20th Century. We were not rushed at all and loved that each course was more focused on quality as opposed to quantity. The live piano music in the background was lovely. Bring enveloped by a building built in the 19th Century was perfect. We will be back.
I liked my meal but my wife’s sea bass was very salty and partially not cooked could not even finish her meal
Everything about this place is fantastic! I don't often take the time to review a restaurant, but I had to review this place. It has the unique ability to combine "Old World" charm and history with the food preparation, presentation and wine list that compares to today's finest restaurants in the world. My wife and I have traveled the world and after an evening here we believe it was as nice as the finest restaurants in New York, Los Angeles, Paris and London, and only 20 minutes from Gettysburg! This was more than dinner, it was "An evening." The building and grounds were gorgeous and full of history, the service was as professional as I have ever received, and the food was fantastic. The wine list was great, and had several "hidden gems." My wife and I plan on heading back for the holidays, and we're a 5 hour flight away.
Antrim is a wonderful restaurant for a special occasion. Limited seating and great service.
Food is excellent and presented well.
This is our second time dining there. 5 years ago, when we stayed there, we enjoyed it very much. This time there were a few glitches that made it not so great. We were guests at the facility with a confirmed 7 PM reservation. We were not seated till 7:45. My wife ordered mushroom soup which was served lukewarm. I ordered rockfish which was served nearly raw in the center. Dessert was supposed to be a pastry with cooked apples with caramel. Apples were raw and no hint of caramel. Not our best dining experience
This is THE special occasion place for us. The food choices are excellent and the service is superb. It is not often you find both to be exceptional.
We stayed at the Antrim 1844 Inn for two nights, and ate at the Smokehouse Restaurant both nights. It was fabulous. Greg met us at the door, took our coats, and escorted us to the sumptuous sitting room where we enjoyed cocktails and hand served hors d'oeurves for 30 minutes. He then escorted us to our table, and ensured that everything was perfect during our leisurely dinner. The food was absolutely delicious. I highly recommend that you make the trip to Taneytown for the whole luxurious experience.
What an incredible experience at the Smokehouse. We have lived in Carroll County for years and this was our first opportunity to go. Food was exquisite, service was outstanding, and wine list was the best I've ever seen. Highly recommend for a upscale night out.
Food and service were amazing both times we've been here. The building and grounds are also amazing.
Antrim 1844 never fails to impress. From the moment you walk in the door, staff is very attentive and incredibly friendly. Creative chef, impressive wine list and phenomenal service.
A true pleasure all the way around and well worth the price.
The food was fabulous, the service was impecible. However, the couple seated next to us were very loud and one individual had a sewer mouth. Very offensive and inappripriate language. Spoiled our evening!
My husband and I went to Smokehouse for our anniversary. Not our first time here and it was outstanding as always. From wine and hor d'oeuvres when you arrive, to the level of service and cuisine everything was great. Our server Sarah was with us from the time we walked in the door until we left and made the evening memorable.
Absolutely outstanding service and the food was phenomenal.
I have dined at the Smokehouse numerous times and I am never disappointed. The ambiance is wonderful for anyone interested in history especially the civil war. The cocktail and appetizers before seating is also a very nice touch. The menu selections are not huge portions but allow for a nice 5 course meal without stuffing yourself. two of us had the filet mignon and the other two had the rockfish and both were excellent. Service is top notch and it is a wonderful place to get away from the hectic pace of city restaurants.
Four of us went to celebrate a 50th birthday. The pre-dinner appetizers were GOOD, but I remember that they were bettter last time I was there several years ago. A very tiny piece of bread with a tomato smear really isn’t a “bruschetta” (and please tell the server how to properly say that word). The main meal was delicious. The quantity of food seemed a little small, despite the fact that there were several courses. We did have a bit of alcohol, and I’m sure that contributed greatly to the final bill, but we were still a bit shocked at the final cost of the evening, should come prepared. The service was impeccable. Even on a rainy evening, it was a lovely visit. The oatmeal cookie drink was the perfect final ending to the evening.
We enjoyed a lovely meal.
Cocktails in the pallor is a must do at this excellent facility
