Food and service was excellent. Price is certainly higher, but it shows in the quality of the food and atmosphere.
The apps and drinks were good, but the entrees were over priced and came out cold. The side dish came out halfway through our meal and was so hot we couldn’t eat it. Definitely not worth the price. We were also seated in the bar when we made a reservation for the dining area. The music was so loud we could barely hear each other.
Food was wonderful, but not for the price. I thought I would have been more satisfied with spending g $400 for two people on dinner when we left.
Underwhelming dinner. The cocktails were lovely, but unfortunately not good enough to make up for the quality of the food. The shrimp & lobster appetizer was okay at best- they were actually out of the lobster claw so they subbed it for a tail, but it was super chewy. The ravioli entree was also just okay. My husband’s $70 steak was unevenly cooked- it was cold in some places and overdone in others. Definitely not the quality we were expecting for the price. The truffle potatoes were good, but that’s about the only thing we actually enjoyed about the meal, unfortunately. We’d potentially go back for cocktails, but don’t feel the need to return for the food. Can’t justify the price for the experience.
The building is beautiful and the food was awesome. All the steaks were very high quality. The pork trinity was perfect. Perfect amount of food. Samuel, our server, was attentive and went out of his way to make our experience easy and wonderful.
We loved smoked. The decor is beautiful. We went to the back bar before and after dinner. The food was awesome and so was the service. The back outside area is perfect for one of our folks to sneak outside, have a smoke and stay warm - great overhead heating system. The wine choice is excellent. Looking forward to our next visit. Great experience! So much fun. The food is delicious, the cocktails are stunning, and the staff is very friendly and attentive. The grilled oysters and the steaks are highlights, but the smoked old fashioned is a must try. Just be prepared for a big bill! It’s well worth it for special occasions.
Such a great vibe.
Very disappointed. Took forever to get drinks. Two of
The steaks were served with frozen maple butter on top. The ravioli was not good at all.
This was our first experience at Smoked. It is one of the newest restaurants in Columbia and is known as the most expensive. My wife and I ordered a variety of items from the menu including The smoked meat charcuterie board, Japanese inspired raw Oysters, the oyster ravioli, the truffle mashed potatoes, and the jalapeño cream corn with crab. The raw oysters were fresh and the Charcuterie board was delightful. However our ravioli entree was nothing spectacular. The portion size was too small (5 pieces). The truffle whipped mashed potatoes lacked salt and were light on truffle flavor. They had a waxy texture which was not very appealing. The creamed corn was nice but we didn’t appreciate much crab meat in it. For the price, these items should have been a bit better. Our server was fine but seemed a bit stretched and it took a little while to bring what we requested. Emily at these prices, the food should be executed perfectly in the service should be much better
Smoked was awesome! The food and entertainment were great!! We will be back :)
Pleasantly surprised, a great menu that exceeded our expectations, the smoked oysters were superb, the rib eye was cooked perfectly and well presented, our server Kate was a charm, very attentive and knowledgeable about the entire menu.
Although our first visit we will for sure be back.
This was our second time here, we had a reservation, but they ended up over booking, so we had to wait about 25 min. Which was a little annoying, but all in all service was wonderful and food and drinks were delicious.
Food was just good at best. And the service is lacking. I do understand this is a new establishment and there will be some kinks to work out. However, if the food isn't great - then it doesn't matter if the service improves or not. The restaurant does not compare to other fine dining in Columbia.
Although very expensive, food was terrible, took too long to be served, steak was cold and sides were tasteless. The only good thing was the cocktail. The total bill for two was over $200 but portions were so small I literally had to go somewhere else to get something decent to eat when we left. I will not be returning to this restaurant.
Food was not good. Why take delicious lamb and pour bbq sauce all over it? Our steak was undercooked. The pork trinity was sold out of one of the pork types even though we were the first table of the night. Salads were tiny. The $165 tower had a measly 2 oz of king crab. Our server didn’t mention that some oysters from VA were $6 each! The food is absolutely overpriced and doesn’t even taste anything like fine dining should. Finally, our server, although nice, wasn’t adequately trained and kept having to “run in the back and ask” for answers to our questions. Never again.
I’m leaving this review in hopes that it gets back to the owners and they use it accordingly… let me paint a picture of our night. Now I preface this with saying I have worked in the service industry in my previous life. All the way from pubs and bars to a high class yacht club.
We decided to go to Smoked for Christmas dinner. First, I made the reservation on Open Table but thought i would message the restaurant to double check if they were open. I was told no they weren’t, so I cancelled it. Then a few hours later, just kidding they actually are open, so I made the reservation again. Already off to an awkward start…
So we get there and are sat in the back room. The lights are super bright, there’s a stack of linens next to us, servers coming and going to get stuff, we kept hearing “order up, corner” and clinging from the kitchen, the music wasn’t on but just echoing from the front rooms and we got sat with lunch menus at 730 pm. So the vibe is already off.
The waitress was super pleasant and very welcoming - but that’s about it. At one point she was fanning herself with the menu when we were ordering, and when asked about dessert her explanations were a lot of “you know” “it’s cool” “um yeah”. Definitely not 5 star upscale service for the price of the food.
The food quality was definitely there. It was tasty and delicious. But honestly, the service didn’t justify the price. The main courses needed some more salt but that’s personal preference. The biggest disappointment was the service we received for $400 tab for 2. Not to mention, paying for the tab on a tablet with the waitress in front of you is super awkward.
We left around 10pm and it was obvious the restaurant was closing. Chairs were stacked on tables and there was banter coming from the kitchen.
Overall, We decided to give it another shot if it’s still open in 6 months. My guess, it won’t be. They have a lot of things to work out front of house. For the price, the service is extremely poor.
New favorite restaurant in Cola! I was going to get a Christmas dinner reservation at Ruth’s Chris like we usually do, but saw Smoked on Open Table. It was great! Great wine list, even by the glass. Excellent oysters and creative food combinations. Nice ambiance. Will definitely return.
The seafood was excellent
The oyster selections were selected very nicely, I am a big fan of WA Oysters
My Gin and Tonic was excellent
The bartender knows her job and was very personable
I will be back often!
We had a table for ten and the service was excellent, keeping up with all of us.
Delicious food, stylish decor, and enjoyable atmosphere. Columbia has another good fine dining experience. Must try but be prepared for sticker shock.
Food was very good but overpriced for this market. Service was underwhelming for expectations. Should offer some type of bread with salad and/or entree. Should also offer freshly cracked pepper with salad.
I imagine they’ll get better with time, but not very impressed with overall experience at this price level.
Service and ambience excellent
Way too loud to hear the server and dinner companions. Server forgot to bring out multiple appetizers and a dessert. Would not recommend.
So, I’ll lead off with saying that I really want this place to make it but prior to going there we had only heard reviews that will match this one. Hopefully they can work out the kinks. There were 4 of us and coincidentally enough the same 2 meals were ordered; raviolis for the ladies and the wet aged ribeye for the men. Well, on ravioli came out cold to the touch and one steak came out tasting like lighter fluid(it was completely inedible) we waited a very long time for these meals also. Which, if the meals are good and it’s obviously busy that’s no big deal but cold food and a ruined steak are unacceptable at this point. We tried to politely let them know, our server was very nice as well but the only thing that runs me the wrong way is that they didn’t even offer to remove it from the bill. I will say they did offer new meals but it was almost 9pm by now and we’d been there since 7. With that, I think it’s wildly over priced for what’s being served. You can absolutely go to Halls and get a better meal for cheaper. We paid $63 for a gased up 10oz ribeye and $40 for 6 cold to the touch raviolis. Oh and the sea smoke dip appetizer was tasty but the sesame seed crackers were so stale they were more like paper. I want them to make it but we won’t be back or recommend this place until we start hearing so better reviews. The total bill for two people was ~$250 and the only things that weren’t a let down was their drinks and whiskey.
I had the fresh catch special, which was definitely lacking flavor. It was seared ahi tuna but had no sauce or drizzle so it was dry and not a whole lot of flavor. I do feel for the prices being charged, the food will have to be taken to the next level. The restaurant overall is beautiful and after time hopefully they can work out some of the details. Would be a good place to go hang at the bar and enjoy the good cocktails and smaller plates.
Heard mixed reviews but decided to try anyway… we were not disappointed. Yes, it’s a bit pricey but the food and drinks were delicious. We will definitely be going back!
The food tasted great but was WAY overpriced. A ~$16 duck bruschetta was nothing more than a single small piece of cornbread with a few pieces of duck. Drinks were good. All in all, flavor was good, but significantly overpriced, especially compared to other venues in the area with similar ambiance and environment.
Food was decent. Not worth the price , service was ok.
Delicate flavors, prompt service, sexy ambiance
Mediocre all the way around.
Terribly overpriced for Columbia SC.
Waited an hour for food. Entrees were average. Inattentive wait staff.
Acoustics are off and the noise is deafening.
Paying your bill on a handheld device with the wait staff scrolling though the itemized receipt.
This is not fine dining.
Get drinks at the bar; don’t stay for dinner.
The best part of the experience was the valet offered by Hendrix next door.
Wonderful experience. The food, live music, service, and drinks were great.
It was very good. Seems like they still have a few things to work out but overall good. I know inflation is ooc but the prices were a little high. Thanks for a good night though!
I normally do not ever give a review. However, I was so disappointed in the amount of money we spent for the service and food we received. We hit the bar first (early for our reservation) and had the best bartender and delicious drinks. The atmosphere is very chic and upscale, so we were having a great time. We were seated at our table, then for over 20 minutes sat there with no recognition from a server. No water, no drink order, nothing. We discreetly told the hostess that we had been seated with no server, and the assistant manager, who was lovely, came to apologize and take a drink order. We sat at the table for another 20 minutes before we just went to the bar to get our own drinks. Came back and were halfway through those before the manager turned up with our drinks we had ordered. The food was OK- and for the price was definitely not worth it. I ordered a second cocktail like the one I had at the bar, and this one was hastily put together and tasted more of soda than anything else. Disappointing for an overpriced cocktail. Overall, I came home hungry after spending about $400 for 2 of us on drinks + dinner. Would not recommend dining there for the price and for the lack of experience.
Beautiful design, terrible service.
We came here for a special dinner event and was completely disappointed. We really wanted to enjoy this place but it was a no go. Walking in, it felt like we were in a sauna. I had to fan myself with the menu all night. The place is beautiful, our waitress was amazing and the drinks were good. Here’s the bad…. The food is priced for Halls and comes out like burger king. The oysters are ok at best. The dip I had to mix it together to get the cream cheese completely melted and very little meat. I have personally grilled and seasoned a steak EXTREMELY better than the jerky they tried to feed me. Requested med rare more on rare side. It came out medium. After requesting a correct temp steak (bc let’s be real it’s a 52 dollar steak) they sent out a steak that was at the correct temp but was seasoned by someone apparently inexperienced, with char grill marks that were burnt into the meat. I honestly do not know what the hype is all about. Oh and the Bok choy they tried to serve was pathetic. I mean seriously?!?!?
Tiny portions for the price. Waiter could not describe the difference in types of oysters, did not ask how steak was to be cooked, and unfamiliar with wine list. Shareable sides are tiny, not shareable. We had early 6p reservation and place was not crowded when we arrived. We were seated right by front door and bar, not good for special occasion. The manager kindly reseated us when we asked about how hot it was and the noise level. Really want this place to succeed for Columbia but there is lots of room for improvement
Met another couple for dinner. Cost was extremely high for the serving size. The experience we had at Hall's Chophouse is much better. Felt like it was truly an event there. We were not wowed by this experience. We had glazed carrots and it literally was 1 big carrot for $8. It is nice to see all the new dinner options in downtown Columbia.
They are still working out the kinks. Great wine list. We had to wait over an hour past our reservation time for a table.
