One of the City's great rooms for jazz. The food is good, but that's not why you come. It's a little expensive, but the music is world-class and the ambiance great.
Great atmosphere. Food was great and service was professional. Entertainment was amazing which made a wonderful anniversary dinner memorable. I would definitely recommend to others and would come back again
Russell Malone was as always superb. Smoke is a unique place where I can see great world class talent with delicious food in an intimate environment.
Loved the music and the ambiance. The dinner was good but the portion was a bit small for the price. They could have spared a few more veggies as well as a larger piece of fish. The wine was good but also a bit overpriced. Service was very pleasant.
Why are we forced to have a 3 course meal when most people come to drink and listen to the fine music?
Loved the music and the service. I am a diabetic, and the small amount of starch served with the main course is a small problem for me. I suggest either providing some bread before the main course is served, or with the main course, or increasing the serving of small potatoes that came with my salmon dish.
Pricy but we didn’t really regret paying since it was a great experience. Fried chicken should never be $30. However, the cover charge of $15 was more than fair. I’d return with my husband for a date but doubt I’d take the kids again.
Great Jazz. Traditional Harlem spot.
Decent food and good value. Management is nice. People dress nice there. Truly a nice spot to take a date or friends.
This is the best place to hear jazz in New York. Period. End of discussion, at least so far as I'm concerned. Anytime you can sit at the bar after a set and have a conversation with a famed, hard-working musician like Freddie Hendrix, who gave me a tutorial on trumpet mouthpieces after a show on Saturday, you are in a special place. The fact that the club has its own record label is a bonus. I can't wait to go back for another set.
What a great atmosphere!! This is New York to me!!
Food was excellent and music was great. Space was a bit cramped and tables small.
Viaggio a New York
We enjoyed a wonderful evening Sunday! It was made more special because of Cynthia Scott’s amazing performance! What a talented group of musicians. The surprise guests were also powerful.
The food, the intimacy of the space was so special. We look forward to another evening at Smoke. We have already recommended it to our friends!
As always, our evening at Smoke was a delightful experience. It's a joy to hear world-class jazz while enjoying a tasty dinner with nicely varied options in an intimate neighborhood setting.
Found it princely for. the amount of food you received and not much of a selection. Music was fantastic.
Great music. Food and drinks were overpriced. Wednesday night with Lezlie Harrison is a blast !!!
Brownies were not good. Fish stew was excellent. Service was very pleasant.
A classic jazz club. Small place Worst seat in the house is fine. Sit at the bar or at a hightop. The tables are, by necessity, really close together. The jazz quartet we saw was wonderful.
Great place and great performance
Good music! Stressfull 3-course jazzdinner. Not enough Time to eat in One set. One of us Sat behind a piller, didn’t see anyting of the band. But good service and nice atmosfair.
Buen lugar para escuchar musica en forma intima. Buenas bebidas.
I had an awesome time. My date enjoyed herself and it was an overall refreshing experience.
This was a gift to my one of my Brooklyn friends. We love jazz! The musicians were great... this week was a tribute to Miles Davis. She lives in Pennsylvania and I in Staten Island. We arrive early for the 8:30 Dinner reservations and 9:00 show. DON’T COME EARLY!! They will be ready to begin seating you about 15 minutes prior. This allows for the 7 pm guest to depart. The spot is SMALL SMALL AND SMALL. If you don’t like close spaces, this is not for you. The food was great and the Smoke Mojito was perfect. I had the merlot ... average , but very good. Smokes is definitely a place to experience, especially if you like ALL that JAZZ!!
A few patrons can spoil the evening.. We had the unfortunate experience of sitting at a table where two people spoke loudly and continuously throughout the performance. The band even joked about it and it went over their heads!
Food was great, service terrific. Band was phenomenal. Only thing lacking was staff to tell these two knuckleheads to shut up! Or get out.
The music was awesome! The food was so so.
Arguably the best jazz in NY. Intimate environment and excellent food too.
True classic jazz! If you want real classic jazz, you will find none better!!
A characteristic jazz bar where you can have a good meal. Not recommended if you want a fancy menu and a slow dinner. Here you have to stick to the schedule, but it is a nice experience. Music was great.
Great music! Saw Mike LeDonnes Groover Quartet. They were amazing!
Small and intimate. Good way too expensive for what you get. Once was nice. But twice would be too much. Try other jazz clubs. I will. Thank you.
My husband and I purchased advanced tickets to see Cynthia Scott on Mother's Day. Ms. Scott was amazing!!! As for the restaurant.....the Smoke Jazz and Supper Club's advertises on their website that a Jazz Dinner menu is available as a discounted Prix-Fixe Sunday thru Thursday only. My husband and I dined on a Sunday but apparently my husband paid the full amount - and not the prix-fixe amount as advertised. When requested, I gave the waitress/bartender my tickets to prove that we paid for the show in advance. And as the gentlemen that my husband is, he did not say anything about the bill while we were at the restaurant, he simply looked at it then paid it.
It wasn't until we arrived at home I asked him what did he think about the restaurant and his response was he had a great time, loved the music and the ambiance but the bill was a bit steep for a prix-fixe menu. I asked how much he paid and his response was almost $150 + he left a tip.
As advertised online, the Prix-Fixe menu is $42/each for a 3-course meal. And even if we were charged the prix-fixe amount and added a side of fries and a virgin beverage (which we ordered), plus tax, it still would not amount to almost $150. So out of curiosity I added up everything we ordered based on the prices listed on the online menu and it appears we were definitely charged the full amount for onion soup, smoked salmon platter, fish tacos, seared salmon, a side of fries, a virgin mojito and two pieces of cheesecake + tax. The food alone without adding the fries, the virgin mojito and tax (b/c I don't know the actual amounts) comes to $120.70. :(
All that said be sure to pay FULL attention to your bill or you will end up paying the FULL amount for the prix-fixe menu. Don't get too mesmerized by the music or you may be bamboozled.
Nice venue. Loved the ambiance and the music. Food was ok and over priced. Drinks were ok. Parking was difficult. Recommend taking a taxi or Uber to venue.
Always a great concert ! I am at Smoke 5-10 times annually and I love the musicians, the fish tacos and the audiences who follow the expectation of not talking when the musicians are playing. I hate listening to those who interact at concerts at other clubs as if they are at a loud house party. Smoke is for those who appreciate and respect great musicians.
Great intimate spot for jazz and a meal. Top level acts every night.
More economic Micah during the week.
Not exactly cheap but where can you see top level performers in a venue that feels like your living room. Lots of locals as some tourists who want a top shelf experience that’s not the regular tourist fare. Uptown.
I love this club which has great atmosphere and amazing music. This was my 7th or 8th visit and I have never been disappointed. However this time for a 9pm set we did’t Want to order more than an appetizer. The menu said « our fixed price meal is the best value but you can also order à la carte ». Well, no. We had to either order the 3 course meal or minimum 2 appetizers each!! We called the manager who wouldn’t budge. We were happy to cover any minimum with drinks. This is unacceptable. I will of course go back to smoke but this must change - at least say on the menu that you need to order minimum $40 in food...
The music is great as always but now they make you do a three course meal ... so if you don’t want to eat you need to sit at the bar
Food wasn’t good and couldn’t hear the waitress!!
Up until my last visit I liked Smoke because of both the music and food. At most jazz clubs the food is not good. On my last visit to Smoke the food was not good. The fried calamari was tough and the spare ribs were so tough that I couldn't cut them. Hopefully, this was off night, but in order to keep its reputation, it's food must go back to it's old standards. My wife had like comments about the quality of the food.
Cynthia Scott is one if the best jazz singers in the world. Her musicians are truly amazing. My dinner was surprisingly delicious. We are going back.
Un timo. 200 dólares tirados a la basura. Camarera seca y borde. Comida regular y cara.
