We had brunch here and it was delicious. The pricing is very good for what you get. But, the most important value is the great musicians. I love jazz and the piano player was the best. We also really appreciate that the Club makes it clear we're there to listen/watch jazz, not just eat. As the hostess says, "this is a jazz club that serves food....not a restaurant that plays jass." Great distinction!
So, when there were two women talking (loudly) right next to us, we asked the waitress to tell them to be quiet. She was diplomatic but they still chose to leave.... guess they weren't there to listen to jazz!
Love this place. It's intimate and you can see the band from every seat.

This has to be on my list of favorite destinations in NY. Coming up on a dozen or so visits and fantastic every time. Food is always good though this time there was a bit of a delay in getting our food. Of course, the main attraction is the music!! In this department there is never a misstep. Looking forward to our next visit already.

Smoke is one of the premier jazz clubs in the city. The musicians are some of the best in the world, and the food is better than it has to be. I highly recommend the fried chicken.

The food isn’t the reason to go to Smoke. The jazz is the reason. We went to see a specific singer, Gregory Generet and were treated to an outstanding jazz performance by Gregory, Richard Johnson and the rest of their ensemble. Fabulous night!

Smoke is rightly famous for the first-rate jazz musicians they feature throughout the week. While the cover charge is low -- $15 -- if you want to sit at one of the tables with a good view of the band, Smoke hits you with a $38 charge for a pre-fixe dinner. If the dinner were good, I'd have less of a complaint. But the quality of the food is bad to mediocre, and the portions are small. Add a tip to the meal (never mind a glass of wine), and you're paying $60 bucks to hear a jazz band.

We booked to see the Bill Charlap Trio play with dinner for my daughters 18th birthday. We were visiting from England for a week and this evening was a real highlight. The venue is suitably dingy for an authentic jazz club feel, great cocktails and fantastic food were only outshone by the brilliant musicians. We got chatting to a wonderful couple from California sitting next to us who generously gave my daughter a CD of the trio for her birthday. The staff on the door and our waitress were all friendly and helpful. We would definitely return. Thank you all for a fantastic night!

We were on vacation trip at New York and looking for a supper / Jazz music combo. Found SMOKE on Broadway, by Internet. Our hotel being on 76th St and Broadway, it was relatively close and easy to reach. The price is good, the music was great (Bob Devos's gutar and that wonderfull Hammond B3 organ). Arrived early, had choice for the table, the service was excellent. We enjoyed the experience and next year, we will come back.

Our last evening in NYC prior returning to the UK was enjoyed at Smoke, and it didn’t disappoint. Music was fabulous, service and food both great. The atmosphere in this cosy venue was amazing. Had to book tickets for the music online in advance but was a smooth transaction and email correspondence surrounding a query I had was outstanding and very helpful. Highly recommended for jazz lovers. Thank you for making our last night so memorable.

With a friend of my wife coming in from Sweden the idea of a jazz dinner just seemed to hit the spot. Finding that there was a music charge to sit down gave some pause, but not much. Our Swedish companion then asked if her host (she was in an Air B&B) could join us. This threw a small kink into the mix as we were being asked the morning of the event.

No contact with Smoke, it was too early. I took a walk about noon to try to find out about adding a fourth seat. Smoke was closed, but there was a rehearsal going on, so I didn't interrupt. I waited until after 4:00 and reached staff who, after some consulting, told me there should be no issues. Solid.

Arrive to find a slightly tall step into the restaurant (my wife has arthritis issues). There was a posting that there is some discussion of a ramp. Once in we were seated right away.

Good atmosphere, nice ambience, an intimate space. The menu was limited. Being a smaller venue that should not be a surprise. What was a surprise was an entre for Ratatouille. My wife and our Swedish friend ordered this. When it arrived it was sent back because they felt it was not Ratatouille. Re-order food was acceptable for both.

Jam session was top notch. The patrons were quite happy.

A second issue for physically challenged is the rest room. It is not handicap friendly. There are no grab bars. The toilet is low which makes getting up a difficulty.

We would return. We enjoyed ourselves.

My wife and I have dreamed of going to a New York jazz club for years. Having looked at a few better known places in Midtown, we ultimately decided to take the recommendation of the owner of the apartment we were renting on the Upper West Side and book at the Smoke. A dream was realised, our expectations surpassed and the only regret was that we didn't book for the second set as we could have stayed all night. We saw Johnny O'Neal & Friends who were just amazing. It's a small room so you're up close to the musicians. The food was great and the music just the kind of Jazz I would associate with this wonderful city. Highly recommended…

We had a great evening at Smoke Jazz. The atmosphere was cosy and welcoming, the band was really excellent and the food was largely good. The only thing that marred it was when it came to the bill, which was about $100 more than I had expected because of the confusing music tickets and set menu pricing system. Ultimately we wouldn’t have minded paying the amount we did if we were prepared for it, but the unclear communication and surprise at the bill made me think they were not being upfront with customers about costs. That said, the music was top notch and very enjoyable.

Food was ok although the fried chicken recently added to the menu should be deleted. It was awful!!
Music was great when the professionals were playing. Unfortunately amateurs played at least half of the 3rd set, which was our second. We felt cheated.
Shame b'cos it was a great venue & experience. Also there is a large pillar in the room which blocks the view of the stage. The stage should be raised to improve visibility. The pillar should be reduced in size for the same reason.
