Wonderful restaurant and jazz club at which to celebrate wife's milestone birthday.
Jazz and food both excellent. Service a bit spotty, but not negative.

A great jazz spot with good food and a very nice atmosphere. Talking during music sets is discouraged which is great because the musicians are excellent

We were on vacation trip at New York and looking for a supper / Jazz music combo. Found SMOKE on Broadway, by Internet. Our hotel being on 76th St and Broadway, it was relatively close and easy to reach. The price is good, the music was great (Bob Devos's gutar and that wonderfull Hammond B3 organ). Arrived early, had choice for the table, the service was excellent. We enjoyed the experience and next year, we will come back.

Our last evening in NYC prior returning to the UK was enjoyed at Smoke, and it didn’t disappoint. Music was fabulous, service and food both great. The atmosphere in this cosy venue was amazing. Had to book tickets for the music online in advance but was a smooth transaction and email correspondence surrounding a query I had was outstanding and very helpful. Highly recommended for jazz lovers. Thank you for making our last night so memorable.

Really a neat place! Arrived late due to subway issues during the Marathon, but were greeted nicely with a reserved table. Great trio and singer. Had a couple of drinks, a nice meal and thoroughly enjoyed the jazz! What a treasure. We will return!

My son and I were in New York for a long weekend and I strong armed him to go as it sounded wonderful. He is 22 and I am a bit older, okay much older, and the food was outstanding. Our waitress, Jo, weas very attentive without intruding. The food was spectacular, great flavor and awesome presentation. The music was incredible!!!!!

The venue is small and intimate and the tables are very close together but it feels warm and inviting. Incredible night and cannot wait to go again!

With a friend of my wife coming in from Sweden the idea of a jazz dinner just seemed to hit the spot. Finding that there was a music charge to sit down gave some pause, but not much. Our Swedish companion then asked if her host (she was in an Air B&B) could join us. This threw a small kink into the mix as we were being asked the morning of the event.

No contact with Smoke, it was too early. I took a walk about noon to try to find out about adding a fourth seat. Smoke was closed, but there was a rehearsal going on, so I didn't interrupt. I waited until after 4:00 and reached staff who, after some consulting, told me there should be no issues. Solid.

Arrive to find a slightly tall step into the restaurant (my wife has arthritis issues). There was a posting that there is some discussion of a ramp. Once in we were seated right away.

Good atmosphere, nice ambience, an intimate space. The menu was limited. Being a smaller venue that should not be a surprise. What was a surprise was an entre for Ratatouille. My wife and our Swedish friend ordered this. When it arrived it was sent back because they felt it was not Ratatouille. Re-order food was acceptable for both.

Jam session was top notch. The patrons were quite happy.

A second issue for physically challenged is the rest room. It is not handicap friendly. There are no grab bars. The toilet is low which makes getting up a difficulty.

We would return. We enjoyed ourselves.

My wife and I have dreamed of going to a New York jazz club for years. Having looked at a few better known places in Midtown, we ultimately decided to take the recommendation of the owner of the apartment we were renting on the Upper West Side and book at the Smoke. A dream was realised, our expectations surpassed and the only regret was that we didn't book for the second set as we could have stayed all night. We saw Johnny O'Neal & Friends who were just amazing. It's a small room so you're up close to the musicians. The food was great and the music just the kind of Jazz I would associate with this wonderful city. Highly recommended…

We had a great evening at Smoke Jazz. The atmosphere was cosy and welcoming, the band was really excellent and the food was largely good. The only thing that marred it was when it came to the bill, which was about $100 more than I had expected because of the confusing music tickets and set menu pricing system. Ultimately we wouldn’t have minded paying the amount we did if we were prepared for it, but the unclear communication and surprise at the bill made me think they were not being upfront with customers about costs. That said, the music was top notch and very enjoyable.

Food was ok although the fried chicken recently added to the menu should be deleted. It was awful!!
Music was great when the professionals were playing. Unfortunately amateurs played at least half of the 3rd set, which was our second. We felt cheated.
Shame b'cos it was a great venue & experience. Also there is a large pillar in the room which blocks the view of the stage. The stage should be raised to improve visibility. The pillar should be reduced in size for the same reason.

The club was very small, but the music was great. The bartender, Mike , was very friendly and offered great service, in addition to his singing. My only complaint was that we were crowded at the bar when there were several empty tables available.

The food was good, though the menu was limited. The band was good overall, except the trumpet player who was both sloppy in technique and too loudly amplified (unmuted trumpets don’t need much amplification in a small space). My only complaint was the cover charge of $38 per person being paired with significant food & drink minimums, rather than an either/or approach. This combined with a 90-minute strict turnover makes for a rushed experience at a premium. Being a musician myself, I’m aware of the economics involved in the rare surviving supper club niche, but I’ve seen superior acts for a fraction of the cover and minimum F&B. All that said, I still give the establishment good marks overall.

I visited the place as a recommendation for my first visit to NY. The seats offered were extremely small so any conversation was heard by several tables around. The waitress was some kind of rude and we only heard like 3 songs from the band. The food was the only part that I really enjoyed. I won’t return to the place.

We went to the Smoke Jazz and Supper Club specifically for the music, not for the food, and the music was excellent, traditional jazz with a singer, bass and pianist. Just what we were looking for. Food was perfectly good too, no complaints, in fact better than most jazz clubs. The room is tiny, with all the diners seated in two rows. But everyone has a good seat. They can all hear the music and see the band.

Great place but OpenTable never told us that we would be charged $30+ per person to attend the last set. I would not have had an issue had I known ahead of time? Smoke Jazz did charge $$ on their site for attending so they were up front with charges but I believe this is OpenTable's fault. Was never listed as part of the reservation. So I was hit with a $76 tab just for being there? That's ridiculous.

We liked the club and the music but service was very poor. We got in at 8:30pm and asked for drinks before dinner which was finally served at around 9:15pm along with our dinner. My appetizer the Mousse of Foie Gras was served with a piece of its plastic wrapping. I was very disappointed with food being served with plastic wrapping and the waiter's reaction when I brought this to his attention. More so as I spent quite a bit of money to entertain family members for a special occasion.
