Smoke Door Lake Tahoe Saryo is a Japanese-inspired restaurant using primitive wildfire cooking methods highlighting seasonal ingredients from Japan and the Tahoe region.

Our Executive Chef, Tyler Burges, hails from notable restaurants such as Michael Mina, Angler, and the esteemed Saison and is driven by seasonality and innovation.
Nestled in the breathtaking surroundings of Lake Tahoe, it offers an unforgettable dining experience with views of the open kitchen and wood-burning hearth.

We had an amazing experience. Food is creative and seasonal. Ten courses took three hours. A bit hard on our butts to sit that long. They also offer a six course which we will most likely try next time. Exceptionally well trained staff. Although it was very hard to understand our Hispanic server. All are very nice and professional. Owner is very hands on, capable and friendly. We would highly recommend going!

Food and Service was outstanding. Best I’ve ever had in the Lake Tahoe Area. We ordered the 6 Course Pre Fix plus a couple of additional items. We had plenty of food and everything was amazing.

We loved our second visit to Smokedoor, and we brought friends with us this time! The food it top notch and feels so special - unlike anything else in the area! We did the 6-course tasting menu and it was delicious. One in our party had a seafood aversion, and the staff reached out in advance of our meal to confirm accommodations to the menu. We appreciate all the little touches like pulling out your chair, offering a hand towel before the meal, swapping out cutlery as needed, and their "choreographed" setting of each course. Would highly recommend for a date night or a special dinner for an occasion!

Zac and the entire team made this experience exceptional and so memorable. We were there to celebrate a 60th birthday and it was the perfect place to honor someone who is loved and cherished. The food was incredible and the service was impeccable. Highly recommend.

I’d like to preface this review with the fact that I regularly reside in an area with many exceptional restaurants, and thus probably have higher expectations than most. I’ll also add I have only a moderate knowledge of fine Japanese cooking and cultural traditions. To start, I think Smoke Door is executing things overall really well. The building is very modern, clean, and stylish. The interior decor feels elevated and exclusive, though without sacrificing a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Every staff member we interacted with was well informed on the unique characteristics of each dish, and provided chef-suggested execution techniques. I appreciated and thoroughly enjoyed both the Japanese craft beers and curated cocktail list. My only critiques are for the food itself. While everything was good, only a few items within the 6 course menu were really notable. For the price point and area of the restaurant, I believe everything could be improved upon just a bit to make it a really exceptional, destination-worthy spot.
