Food was presented nicely and was very full flavored.
The rib eye steak was a bit fatty and was cooked to soft, made it hard to cut, but it tasted very good and the mashed potatoes and sauce were wonderful.
Scallop dish was very good, risotto was delicious.
The hub and I really enjoyed our dinner here-not a gimmicky menu-lots of meat expertly prepared!
I had the hanger steak and husband had the ribeye- the steaks...perfect, the fries...PERFECT, the starting salad...perfect, the collard greens...perfect! We ended with coffee and the creme brulee-- my only suggestion would be to expand the dessert menu a bit, but the creme brulee was good!
Oh and if you like cashews, the curried cashes are a nice simple starting bite

We look forward to our bi-annual trip to Ashland and Smithfields will be part of it!
Small kitchen turns out exquisite food. Each portion of the plate is crafted by a chef and cared for till it is placed on your table. We had 1 server yet all servers played a harmonic balance of care for all tables. A little on the loud side so for one on one meals I would suggest sitting side by side. Wonderful place, much Mahaloz!!
Smithfields was a pleasant surprise as it was not as upscale and pricey as we'd been told. My souffle was not what I expected but was tasty although extremely rich and not light at all. Our companions enjoyed their dinners although the ribs were very fatty and quite pink. We'll probably try Smithfields again. Bar was noisy.
Well, tge place had come highly recommended, and I'd previewed the menu online, so I figured it was varied enough for our foursome. We must have been seated at the darkest table in the joint. Glasses didn't help reading the menu. Neither did light from the cell phone. Thankfully a server had a FLASHLIGHT we could all share. Really? Oh...tgey explained it was for "ambiance". Doesn't fly when 3 are 80+ years old. Place was noisy, but manageable. 2 ordered BBQ ribs. Very unimpressed by the fattiness & lackluster BBQ sauce. Salmon special was good. Should be for $30. BBQ brisket was decent enough. Sides of an overpriced & truly bland & disappointing Mac & cheese & the baked beans (one thought they tasted canned!!) were buzz-kills. I'd return...flashlight in hand if we had the same table by the kitchen. Next time I guess I'd venture for a steak & expect tgat with an added sauce/topping it might be something to get excited about. We passed on dessert. But service was decent & friendly.
Everything I have tried is incredibly good. Not a lot if choices for vegetarian but great selection for those who eat meat. Not cheap but food quality and inventiveness meets the price. Over all I would highly recommend Smithfield. They also have my favorite British beer so that's just another plus for me.
We were happy that we made a reservation since it was a very busy late morning Sunday crowd. The waitstaff was attentive and made every effort to accommodate us on our pre-theatre timing. We both had the berry & oat flapjack with clotted cream and maple syrup -- it was excellent! Rich and buttery, lots of berries, and a very nice crunch to the edges of the flapjack. We'll be back!
We were somewhat disappointed with this experience, but we have decided that because it was at an early hour, the wait staff wanted to turn the table its earliest convenience. It was somewhat obvious. We understand that early diners are subject to being moved out in favor of another seating, but it should not be as noticeable as it was, especially considering that the meals are not inexpensive.
We were the first ones in at 5:15 with reservation and waited 40 minutes for food. The brisket was very dry and the sauce was not that good, although that could be personal taste. I wanted a 5:30 reservation but on line said there was none and had to come at 5:15 instead. But no other diners arrived until 5:45. The salad was very good which earned the 2 stars in spite of very unsatisfactory brisket, although it was a generous portion. Waitress was very good.
Every dish we had was spectacular! Your biggest challenge will be how to combine their offerings in order to truly appreciate what they have. I will never again order an appetizer like the fabulous bacon beigbettes in combination with any main course celebrating bacon! Way too rich and portions are generous.
What was disappointing is that with booking went the statement of special occasion (birthday) and that was never picked up on😐
It was an amazing night! Great wine (house label - Quady North) and great food. The staff made our daughter feel extra special on her birthday without the embarrassment of a public display. We were seated outside and were treated to a beautiful fall evening. Couldn't have had a better time!
When i visit Ashland (Annually for the last 3 years), I've returned and each time I have had great tasting food; whether on the menu or "specials". A little costly, but not a lot of restaurant choices in Ashland that are reasonablly priced for the quality of food you receive.
Smithfields is my adult granddaughter's favorite restaurant in Ashland, and I don't argue. They do the best steaks around, and scrumptious sides and appetizers. For those who aren't as meat-oriented, I can recommend the scallops and risotto that I had this time. Yum. The service is excellent. Wish I could talk dessert, but we never have room!
This was our first time at this restaurant and it was amazing! My husband and Started with the cracked pepper loaf. This was the bomb! I spred regular butter on it while my husband got the blue cheese butter for his slices. Then we ordered a bib salad, which was enough for both of us to share. For dinner, we each had the hanger steak and it was out of this world. The seasoning was spot on and the fresh-cut french fries completed the meal. There was a couple sauces that you could get to dip your steak in and the béarnaise and peppercorn flavors were outstanding. The service was incredible as well. We were always in reach of a server and they were so pleasant to help us. I would highly recommend this place.
