The food is always wonderful here.
Our food was absolutely delicious! My only negative comment is that my husband ordered the porterhouse lamb and all he got was the lamb—nothing comes with it! You have to order bread separately, vegetables separately, potatoes separately, sauce separately. It’s ridiculous that you don’t get something with the entrée. I had their special that night which was salmon and it did come with a few things and it was delicious!
Had another wonderful night at Smithfields! Such a romantic and cozy restaurant! We started with a couple of delicious drinks. We shared their fall off the bone, mouthwatering St. Louis Ribs. And also a ribeye with a side of cauliflower. Perfect!
Artful comfort food in the hearth of Ashland. Would definitely return.
Wonderful food and delicious desserts. We were there on a quiet night and enjoyed ourselves tremendously. I was served a glass of the best tempernillo I have ever had. Service could be better, lacked warmth and patience. Otherwise a great experience.
excellent fries and steak. service was a little slow, but it was a busy saturday night. one of our favorite places in ashland
The place was pretty busy today.. I love coming here. The food is really good, drinks are wonderful.
Everything was awesome, food was meat oriented deliciousness. They only allow dogs on the patio, during the Summer. It was hard to have a conversation because of how loud everyone else was being...I guess it was just Busy. Good idea to Reserve a Table. Thank You
We throughly enjoyed our dining experience!
It was a lovely meal in a warm friendly environment.
We will come back again.
I ordered a Breakside IPA and it was flat. it tasted like the keg had been sitting for a long time when they said "we just tapped it". I ordered the house brisket and when it arrive it was dry. like it had sat for a long time before it got re-heated and placed on my plate. I didn't have enough BBQ sauce to make it any better.
I very much liked the smoked pork loin benedict with spinach and rice flour muffin. My companions liked their dishes, too, but not as well (a duck dish and a shrimp Po Boy). The waitpersons were helpful without being "helicopters." Atmosphere is pleasant and welcoming. The main drawback is the noise level -- "energetic" indeed, enough that it's a little hard to converse. Last time I ate here was summertime, and one can get away from the noise by eating outside. I would definitely return.
Very disappointed at our first visit. With all the high ratings, we had looked forward to trying them. The food is priced on the higher end, which is fine for a great food experience, but this was nothing close to what we'd expected. My wife had the scallop entree which sounded great, but ended up being three smaller sized scallops which were just OK. A bit sad for a dinner entree. I chose the "Never fails" choice of prime rib entree which was recommended by our server. The cut was no more than a 1/2 inch thick, and was so saturated in worcestershire sauce, there was no flavor of meat to be had. It came on Horseradish mashers, which again were so strongly flavored with horseradish that it overpowered even the worcestershire soaked meat. To take two small bites and literally have such strong flavors dominate your tastebuds was hardly worthy of a 4.5 star rating. Luckily we enjoyed a fantastic show following a meal that left a bad taste in our mouths. We love exploring all of the wonderful dining experiences Ashland and the surrounding area have to offer, but will not be returning or recommending Smithfields to anyone .
We have never been disappointed in the food or service at Smithfield’s. One of our regular go to places because we can always count on this.
We made reservations for dinner at 6:15p before an 8p show at OSF...and we noted this in our reservation. We were seated promptly on arrival. Cocktails were excellent. Once our food order was taken our server didn’t check on us again during the more than 45m it took for our food to arrive. The “1/2 chicken” (which we intended to share) turned out to be only a drumstick and thigh. The sides of mac and cheese and baked beans were served so incredibly hot that it was impossible to take a bite without getting burned. When the sides finally cooled enough to try, the flavor was bland. This place has such great reviews, but our experience left us very disappointed and rushing to get to the theatre in time. Hope it was just an off night.
Excellent menu and lovely room. The food was great one of the best risottos I have had. Server and hostess very welcoming. and yes it was quiet so we could have a conversation without shouting.
Not cheap but worth the evening. Will go again next time I come to Ashland.
Making reservations was very easy to do via website. Service was great. Food was delicious.
We had a terrific dinner with an innovative cocktail. The restaurant was very responsive as we had contacted it earlier about a special arrangement. We were really impressed with their response, even though we did not end up needing anything special.
This is cozy place that would be great for any occasion.
We may have to make an effort to drive through Ashland so we can eat there more often.
Excellent brunch, service was slow but they were busy, no refills on coffee, but food was great!
This has been our family's favorite brunch spot for the last five years (at least.) In the summertime, the patio cannot be beat and in the winter it always feel so cozy inside. Their bloodies are art. Their chicken n' waffles bring my wife joy and the coffee never runs out. Did I mention that they treat our children like royalty? They are lovely people serving delicious food in an inviting atmosphere. Huzzah!
Great food, great atmosphere. We completely enjoyed our dining experience. Highly recommended.
Excellent Food; Great experience - had some hiccups with service that were proactively addressed; hostess and waitress went above expectations to enhance experience with genuine apologies.
Great food. Great service. The perfect “date” night experience.
Had a great dinner at Smithfields. A very good arugala and pear salad and the scallops with risotto was excellent. Nice wine selection. We will definitely go back the next time we are in Ashland.
Probably the last time we will eat there and we have been multiple times, food always tends to be good but the staff is usually sub par and with the exception of just one of our half a dozen plus visits has been, but this night was exceptionally poor and it started right out of the gate with the hostess and her poor attitude, we honestly almost just walked out after being seated because of it, (and in hind sight probably should have) at least our waitress was nice, she just wasn't a person that should be waiting tables.
I am not a person that typically writes reviews and typically a better than average tipper, probably even when it is not warranted and I am sure considering the level of service did it again this night, (and maybe I am part of the problem because of that) but they should know it will probably be the last time they see us, or a better than deserved tip from us, or get our recommendation.
My recommendation for the restaurant would be to take out some tables and make it a little more intimate so you are not sitting in the lap of your neighbor, at this price point it should be and by all means screen your staff better, or train them better, but chances are until they hire a better manager that isn't going to happen, in my experience staff and employees tend to emulate the manager or owners traits or faults, but my guess is that is not going to happen since they have been successful doing it like they have, it just won't be for us or anyone that asks us.
The food and service are consistently exceptional. One of the best spots for dinner in Ashland.
Excellent food and service but the space is small and loud
We always go to Smithfield's when we are in Ashland and are never disappointed. The food is always great as is the service. We highly recommend it.
We are from California and when we visit Ashland each year we ALWAYS go to Smithfield’s… It’s one of our favorite restaurants!!!
Best charcuterie board, ribs, and bacon!!!
Fabulous find! What a sparkling gem to find situated just off the main street of down town Ashland. Warm greeting at the door started our journey to our table on the charming patio out back. The service was superb as was the icy cocktail to start. We had an array of starters to get a real feel of the food and all were just delightful - the grilled romaine, peaches & prosciutto and grilled shrimp & grits. I had a perfectly grilled rib eye steak that was flavorful and tender. The fish & chips delighted my dining partner, lightly breaded and cooked perfectly. We look forward to our next visit there - Cheers!
Hanger steak with peppercorn sauce was a disappointment. Sauce didn’t have any flavor. My husband’s steak was given to another table so we had to wait for his to be redone. Again not much flavor. Won’t return there. As opposed to the Loft by the creek which was excellent. Steak au poivre you could cut it with your fork. Lots of flavor.
My partner and I went to the green show and then came here. We had a reservation, and I anticipated it being very crowded, but it was not at all. Portions and meals were fantastic, and had great flavor. The scallops dish was fantastic. Creme brûlée and cheesecake desserts did not disappoint. Definitely will be back!
The pacing was very uneven. The bone marrow was very good. My wife enjoyed the bacon beignets.
Really interesting food that tastes great. Good service - offered thoughtful suggestions and recommendations, a wine list with some some unique offerings that are affordable
The food was really great. The main issue we had was that there were so many flies. It was gross and made it hard to enjoy the awesome food. The service was so so.
I felt for $116 dollar dinner for 2 and 3 drinks was a bit much. I had the rib eye and as it was cooked as ordered, for the price I could of went and bought 3 or 4 1inch think cut steaks. I do alot of cooking and BBQ and it's hard to beat a trager wood fired steak. The service was great and the food was good, just wish the steak for the price was a little thicker.
Add Daniel's charm and knowledge to a superlative meal and the inviting patio ambiance, and it was a perfect evening!
great atmosphere, we sat outside, the food was solid. I had the Ribeye and it tasted great. My wife had the scallops and she was very pleased. The waiter was kind of unfriendly but everyone has bad nights
Beautiful setting, beautiful food, good service.
We've tried Smithfields twice and both times the service has been so poor, and so slow, that we won't be going back. After our first visit, we decided to give the restaurant the benefit of the doubt, thinking that maybe we just came on an off night. We tried again. Most recently, even though we had a reservation, we had flag down a waiter after a 35 minute wait with menus in front of us. After ordering, we waited another 45 minutes before the food arrived. Again, we had to inquire. No one came by the table to say our order would be coming shortly. No one offered a complimentary dessert or glass of wine even after multiple questions. I cannot recommend this restaurant, in spite of its beautiful patio.
